This is the 2nd video in a series on remaking Vampire Survivors in GameMaker.
The video tutorial shows you how to create in a very simple way to create a randomly generated ground. The idea is quite simple. You have a sprite stripe (or a big tileset sprite sheet) and you loop through all possible tile positions of the room with a double loop to set a random tile from this tileset. Image it like this, you let GameMaker pick one of those brushes/tiles and set to each possible postion a random one. That's it.

This video tutorial is an updated version for scribble (free text renderer). It is now easier to use and still one of the best free tools for text formating.
I though I can give you a quick and dirty guide through all essentials that this text render has to offer.
What can this tool do? You can chain on any positon of the text multiple commands that do cool effects like wobble, wave or standard operations to increase the text size or color a word. There is even a typewriter function included which is a god send to an easy to use system for dialogs ingame.

The newest patch V2022.9 comes with some good quality updates and prioritizing the inspector.
This update is more a technical one, no new toys or features to play around with. The only thing noteworthy is that the room editor which was docked normall on the left side is gone and is being replaced by the inspector.

This is the 4th in a short series of remaking the battle system which you see in Undertale in GameMaker.
What is Undertale?
Undertale is a video game made also in GameMaker by Toby Fox where
you play as a child that is being trapped in an unknown world and your job in this linear story is to progress. The difference is that you can genocide monsters, be neutral or even befriend them. This throws the concept of enemies being simply neutral farm on its head.

This time we need indicate to the player that if the heart clips/collides with any obsticle/bullet we need to put the state into a hit state that blinks the heart. For that we have to have a timer running down and once that timer is below 0 we set the alpha to 0.4 or 1 depending what it currently is. That is it!
🚧 For the future: This series is under construction. There will is a free downloadable project file for everybody, so you can grab and do whatever you like to do with it (you can credit me, but not necessary). Also, this video series will be handled like my Hotline Miami series. If the views drop off a cliff (that I do see happening) it will be then discontinued.

This basics video tutorial shows you how to conver automatically from one type of programming language into another in GameMaker.
To clarify, GameMaker has two types of programming languages, one called gml, which stands for GameMaker language which is a script programming language. The other ones is a icon heavy way to make games which is called gml visual formerly known as DnD.
To fast forward, yes you can convert from gml visual (dnd) to gml with ease, just hit right mouse button and convet the specific event/script. But can you do the same the other way around? Well, technically you can but not how you would expect it. The conversion is then running hybrid with the gml part as an addon and the rest with gml visual. This is a bit of a let down because for beginners who prefer the visual programming style with gml visual and want to convert gml projects, well they are pretty much out of luck. There is currently no way for a clean conversion where you can flip flip between those two styles on the fly.
Disclaimer: I have never had that issue nor need and never encountered any gml visual (DnD) projects from ar site, tutorial or video etc. .

This video tutorial shows you how to setup the first part of an inventory system that is modular and later on it will be advanced to suit more then basic needs. This is a how to code your own inventory system.
We had in the last years not so many tutorials on making inventory systems. So this it a guide how to get one running. In this part we only create in the constructor a new entry and store in that the sprite_index, so basically how the thing we collect/add to the inventory looks like.
From that I will deviate first to a fixed inventory (route B) and then to a Nioh style inventory where you can scroll, add unlimited entries and split into categories (weapon, armor etc. )
