Radicals block Africa streets in protest. Government building seized. France forced to take control.
Known as 'the week of barricades' in France, guerrillas in Algeria blocked off the streets and took control of government buildings in the center of the city. The French government tried not to fire during the revolt, as most of the people blocking the streets were civilians. The block aid lasted a week before French forces were able to restore order.
