In this video, I go through the hardware assembly of a custom VESC one wheel, using the Fungineers GTFO kit. I elected not to use the Floatwheel GTV kit for a couple of reasons, but mainly because this is running an 84v custom lithium ion battery and the Thor VESC is designed for that.

This board was built on the extended Tech Rails 357 rails, using the Burris 11.5x7.0-6 tire. It's larger than my own Onewheel XR based build, and larger even than the Onewheel GT S-Series. Obviously, it's much larger than a Onewheel Pint, Pint X, or the new Pint S.

Upgrading A VESC Onewheel | Fungineers Thor300

The Board Garage 2024-08-08 | This is a custom VESC onewheel that was built on an extended Onewheel XR style frame. The original build used a Little FOCer in a Flowglider box, and this rebuild swaps out to the Fungineers Thor300 VESC in the "complete box" assembly. The motor remains a Superflux, and the battery remains an 18s2p pack with 50S cells. The rails are extended Tank Rails (a WTF style set with slightly different angles).

Lithium Ion Battery Fire Bag | Big Ol Boom Part 2

The Board Garage 2022-08-18 | Whether you own a Onewheel GT, a Meepo Hurricane, an Acedeck X1, some other electric skateboard, or especially an electric unicycle, your chosen PEV contains a relatively large lithium ion battery pack. When these things are poorly assembled, or treated improperly, or abused and subject to poor treatment, they can be a massive hazard.
This is the second in a series of videos where a manufacturer sends me a "fire proof bag", or some kind of safety device to help reduce the risk and damage from a battery failure/fire.

Obviously, these things are interesting to watch, but they also serve as a reminder of how bad things can get when you take their power and energy for granted.

The Onewheel GT and its release has been very rough, and it has further illuminated the ethos of a company that continues to lose the support of myself at the very least, but it seems many of their formerly diehard fans.

Ultimate DIY One Wheel Build | Introduction & Parts

The Board Garage 2022-08-06 | For the first video in the series, I go over the parts that I'll be using to build a VESC based Onewheel rebuild/restore project. The only Future Motion parts being used are the motor, and the battery box. The rest of the parts are aftermarket or third party products, and the wiring will be custom done to suit the needs of the build.

The plan is to build and base the board on a 20s battery, with a top voltage of 84v (72v nominal).

The Onewheel GT Review

The announcement of the Onewheel GT alongside the Onewheel Pint X was a major moment for me, as it was for many. The long wait until it arrived was rough, and the initial release was frought with issues. Months later, and it's become clear that the GT demonstrates the ethos of Future Motion, and that it is not one that is kind to the riding community as a whole.

Through the cost-cutting measures taken in its design and production, and the resulting drop in quality, it's clear that the Onewheel GT is just another "tech product" to be sold as part of a lifestyle and experience brand, and not a well crafted machine that is meant to provide a service to customers for many years.

It is, I think, a profound disappointment. It could have been so much more.

Onewheel Beginner Tips | Torsional Stability (Heel Toe Balance)

The Board Garage 2022-06-28 | Whether you're riding the Onewheel GT, or the Onewheel Pint X (Pints especially, actually), or the Onewheel XR, the ability to stabilize and regain control from a toeside or heelside bump is important to staying on the board during a ride.

Most of my earlier falls were from uneven terrain that would buck the board into a rotation, kicking me off.

Practicing rotational (torsional) stability is an important part of reducing falls and staying confident when you're trying to get from points A to B.
