I've been running this channel for over 7 years and just the other day, thanks to all of you we hit the big 100,000 subscribers! This is a big milestone for any YouTube channel and it couldn't have happened without all of you! Thank you all so much for embarking on this journey with me. Thank you for supporting this channel and sharing your comments.There are some things coming down the pipeline that we also talk about in this video. Things like what's been going on with me, new videos coming out etc. I have been working on a project for a while now and am starting to get things lined up to actually be able to start on it. This project is related to the subject of foraging and will be something entirely new that I've never done on this channel. A while back I announced an e-book I'm working on. There have been many hiccups and roadblocks in the release of that and I understand that many of you probably got frustrated with the book not coming out. It has been frustrating for all of us and unfortunately that's the nature of writing books it seems. How To Make Echinacea Tincture Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-08-29 | In this video we cover the process of harvesting and preparing Echinacea plants, or Coneflower, for a powerful tincture. This is a rather straightforward tincture to make and we'll be utilizing the root, stems, and leaves of the plant. Echinacea has many uses but it's best known for alleviating colds and flu like symptoms . In fact the plant is widely used in Europe for this purpose and it's considered generally safe to use. First we need to find ourselves some Echinacea plants, usually found in fields/clearings and prairie like environments. If you don't knw how to identify Echinacea I'll put a link further down in the description to my video on identification. After we find our plant we need to access the roots by digging them up. This is a bit tough as the soil tends to be compacted and has a lot of other roots in the way, so be careful to not damage other plants or include them in your final product. When we get the plant home we just need to pick off any bad looking leaves and other spots that are damaged then, rinse them off well. While washing the roots be sure to get inside the crevices with something like a soft bristled toothbrush to remove all traces of dirt. After washing well make sure your plants are thoroughly dried. The last step in this process is to cut up the plant material and place into a jar with our preferred menstruum. Chanterelle Mushroom Identification, Harvesting, Toxic Look A Like Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-08-01 | The Chanterelle Mushroom, or Cantherellus spp., is one of the worlds most popular mushrooms to forage. With its distinct look and very unique flavor this is a rather easy mushroom to identify in the wild. We'll take a look at the mushrooms identification features, how to harvest it, and we'll look at the toxic look a like known as the Jack O Lantern Mushroom. The Chanterelle is very often found in old growth Oak forests usually in mid to late July, especially after a recent rainfall. This species we look at is a rather large one that, like all Chanterelles, has a feature known as false gills. These structures take the shape of gills but are usually rather shallow and are more like ridges or indentations running on the underside of the cap. The top of the cap is orange to yellowish orange and it will often have wavy margins. The underside of the cap will be whitish yellow then turning into a more orange yellow color towards the base of the stem. Harvesting them couldn't be any easier, as they just pluck from the ground with little effort. How To Identify Prickly Lettuce, Lactuca serriola Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-07-28 | Hey guys in this video we'll take a look at Prickly Lettuce, or Lactuca serriola. Prickly lettuce is an extremely easy plant to identify and is commonly found along the edges of lawns, roadsides and in fields or clearings. Often growing to a height of 5 feet or more, Prickly Lettuce blooms anywhere from April all the way through August with it numerous yellow ray like flowers. The flowers will have anywhere from 15 to 20 petals and there will be multiple flowers per plant. The leaves grow in an alternate pattern and are deeply lobed, but there are some other variations you'll be likely to find on the plant. The basal leaves in the early spring are usually not lobed but as the plant matures the deeply lobed leaves start to appear. From the ground the leaves are rather large but further up you go they get smaller and will start to lose there lobed shape, turning into an oval or egg shape. This plant gets its name from the stiff spines that run along the midvein on the underside of the leaf and on the margins as well as the stem. After the plant flowers and goes to seed, you'll notice the white fluff with the seeds at the base, a lot like dandelion seeds. The leaves of wild lettuce can be used for food by simply boiling them for a few minutes and treated like spinach greens. The flower buds, before the flowers appear, can be boiled for a few minutes and served like a broccoli. Medicinally this plant is used as a pain reliever and there's various methods to get this effect. 4 Poisonous Plants You SHOULD KNOW When Foraging! Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-07-21 | Poisonous plants are an important thing to know when foraging wild edibles and medicinal plants, and in this video we cover 4 important ones that you should pay attention to. In the early spring during Morel season you might find a strange looking and unique plant known as Jack in the Pulpit. This plant is high in Oxalic Acid and can cause severe burning if ingested or through rough skin contact. Later in the summer you might come across another unique and strange looking plant known as Dolls Eyes or Baneberry. It get's its name from the white berries with black spots that resemble the eyes of a childhood doll. This plant is highly poisonous and can cause severe stomach upset or even worse if too much is consumed. We'll also take a look at the notorious poison ivy plant and compare it to another poisonous plant that many confuse with poison ivy known as Virginia Creeper. Lastly we'll look at the one of most deadly plants known to man, the Water Hemlock. How To Identify Common Elderberry, Sambucus canadensis Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-07-13 | Hey guys in this video we take a look at the common elderberry or Sambucus canadensis. The Common Elderberry is a very popular plant that can be found along roadsides, railroad tracks, and in old fields. This is a very easy plant to identify but you will notice a few variations in its identification features, namely the leaves. The leaves are compound and grow in an opposite patter along the main stem of the shrub. There will be anywhere from 5 to 11 leaflets along the leaf stem and if we look at the margins of the leaves we will notice very fine serrations or teeth. The top of the leaves are a dark glossy green color whereas the underside is a greenish gray color. The stem of your Elderberry is round and green in color with little nubs running along the length. The stem is hollow with a very large pith if it's broken open. The white flowers will appear in June throughout July and grow in umbel like clusters and they will have five petals. How To Identify Water Hemlock, Cicuta maculata Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-07-09 | In this video we learn how to identify Water Hemlock, or Cicuta maculata by its Latin Name. Water Hemlock is one of the most poisonous plants known to man so it's important to know how to identify it. Usually growing in wet moist environments like its name implies, Water Hemlock grows to about 5 feet tall. The leaves are compound with multiple leaflets and these are larger at the base of the plant. Towards the top of the plant the leaves get smaller and we will notice less leaflets on the top portions. Each leaf has sharp teeth running along its margins and at the petiole of each leaf you will notice a purple splotch. The stem of Cicuta is a variation of either green with purple tinging or it could be solid purple reddish in color. The flowers are very much like Poison Hemlock in that they are umbel shaped and very sparse with large gaps separating the flowers. Foraging Wild Carrot Flowers To Make Fritters Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-07-06 | Hey guys in this video we go foraging for some wild carrot flowers to make fritters. This is an extremely easy recipe to make and it tastes absolutely delicious! First we need to harvest our wild carrot flowers which really couldn't be any easier. Pluck the flowers at the base near the flower bracts and then put into a bowl or foraging bag. After that take them inside, or home depending, and rinse then dry them off well. When the flowers are dry dip them into well beaten egg and then into flour, either seasoned or non seasoned will do. After dipping into our batter mixture just simply put into a pan with hot oil and cook until browned on both sides, about 1 minute on each side. When it's done just put onto a plate with paper towel to allow it to drain and then serve!
How To Identify White Sweet Clover, Melilotus alba Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-07-02 | White Sweet Clover is a rather unique plant that is often grown for honeybees to use as forage, but it's also edible! We'll take a look at the identification features of this plant in this video. There are numerous spikes of white flowers at the top of the plant that are usually loaded with honeybees. With it's alternate leafing pattern and trifoliate leaves, like other clovers, this plant can grow up to 6 or more feet tall. Blooming in the summer and often growing on the edges of wood lines, fields, clearings, and roadsides, the White Sweet Clover has several culinary uses. The edible leaves contain vanillin, the main chemical in vanilla beans, giving them a nice vanilla like flavor. These leaves can be used for tea or for flavoring things like baked goods. The flowers themselves are quite delicious brewed into a tea and go really good with the leaves for a florally vanilla like beverage that is great on a hot summer day.
How To Identify Orange Day-Lily, Hemerocallis fulva Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-06-30 | In this video we'll take a look at the identification features of the Orange Day-Lily or Hemerocallis fulva. This is an extremely common plant that can be found all over the United States along roadsides, edges of trails in parks, and even in gardens. With it's orange 6 petaled flowers it's an extremely attractive plant. Each of the petals will have a white line running through the center and will terminate at the throat into a yellow center. The leaves of this plant are rather simple with their grass like appearance. They have a very prominent midrib or vein running through the center that is very noticeable on the underside of the leaf. The top of the leaves are in a sort of V like shape due to this vein. All parts of the plant are edible, from the root to the leaves and flowers this plant has been prized as food for thousands of years in many countries around the world.

How to Identify Spiny Leaf Sow Thistle, Sonchus asper Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-06-17 | In this video we take a look at the Spiny Leaf Sow Thistle, or Sonchus asper. This is a very common plant often found on the edges of lawns, gardens, roadsides, and waste places. The Spiny Leaf Sow Thistle, like it's name implies, has multiple sharp spines along the margins of the alternating leaves. There can be several variations of leaves on this plant with some having dandelion like lobes and others having no lobes at all. In general the leaves are lance shaped and will alternate going up the stem with the leaves at the top being much smaller than the basal leaves. The plant produces multiple stems at the top that will each produce about 5 flowers. The flowers are small, yellow and Dandelion like and like many other Thistles after flowering will produce a fluff where the seeds can float along the wind. Foraging Your Roots by John Carlier, Book Review Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-06-14 | In this video we look through the book titled Foraging Your Roots by author John Carlier. John sent me this book to look through and I think he did an excellent job writing it. It's a foraging book that works as a reference guide for over 270 wild edibles of the Eastern United States. The book is well written and an easy read with beautiful high definition photographs. He describes how to identify each plant and what parts are edible from them. If necessary John will explain if a plant has toxic parts that should be avoided or even if he finds it too bitter. There's a hardcover and a paperback book both available for purchase. Another lovely item that John sent me was the foraging logbook. Split into two parts this logbook allows us to write down and log each plant we find with information such as; where we found it, if the plant is in abundance or not, are there areas to stay away from, and we can even do a leaf press in the logbook for beach plant entry! The other part of the logbook is a calendar where we can write down other information for each date specifically. This would be helpful to create your own foraging calendar that's local to you and your area. This is a powerful tincture that can be used externally and internally. Yarrow, or Achillea millefolium by its Latin name, is a powerful styptic and astringent herb that can be used to stop bleeding, relieve pain, and heal cuts and wounds. To make the tincture, you just need to simply collect your Yarrow and pick off the bad leaves. Then we'll take our good leaves and flowers and add them to our extractant to make the tincture. Once we've done this we just need to let it sit in a cool dark spot for up to 8 weeks. Discussion On Harvesting Roots Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-06-05 | When foraging wild plants for food or medicine it's a common sentiment to hear that we should never harvest the root or take the root of a plant. This is oftentimes unavoidable and in other cases is just misunderstood by people with the best of intentions. In this video we'll talk about reasons why taking the root of any plant can be good or bad and some situations where each method applies. Like anything in life, foraging requires diligence and nuance. If you're trying to harvest the roots/corm of Spring Beauty, you really have no choice. Obviously you want to only harvest the corm of this slow growing plant from a well established area so you don't cause damage to the local ecosystem. Other times, it can be more beneficial to take the entire plant so you don't introduce pests, or diseases to the local plant population as this can have long lasting effects. Foraging Wild Carrot Stems, The BEST Part of Wild Carrot Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-05-31 | In this video we harvest the stem of wild carrot, which is easily the best part of the plant to eat. Most people forage the root of the wild carrot but many don't know the stem is also edible, and quite frankly, much easier to harvest. Wild carrot stems and shoots are available when the root goes out of season and can be harvested throughout mid spring to early summer. To harvest the shoot or stem all we need to do is pick it where it is tender, you'll know this because it just snaps in between your fingers. After that we just need to simply pull off the outside peel and it's ready to go into a salad, use as a trail nibble or even add to soups and stews. When foraging the wild carrot it's also important to know how to distinguish it from its toxic look a like, Poison Hemlock. We'll also take a look at Poison Hemlock in this video so you don't make a dangerous mistake.

How to Identify Poor Mans Pepper, Peppergrass - Lepidium virginicum Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-05-25 | In this video we'll go over the identification features of Poor Man's Pepper or Lepidium virginicum. This is a very common plant found in lawns, around gardens, and roadsides. With a very pungent and peppery flavor, as the name implies, it's a potent pepper substitute that is very easy to identify. The white flowers have four petals and grow in a raceme formation, under which are the delicious seedpods. The leaves grow in an alternating pattern along the main stalk of the plant. These leaves, which have sharply toothed margins, will get larger the further down you go on the plant. Amur Honeysuckle - Lonicera mackii Identification Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-05-23 | The Siberian Honeysuckle or Amur Honeysuckle is a very common invasive plant here in the United States. The plant was brought over in the 1930's to control ditch erosion and since that time it has been a nuisance to conservationists and gardeners alike. This Honeysuckle species is very easy to identify with it ovate shaped leaves that have smoothe margins and a very sharp tip at the end. The leaves grow on opposite sides of the stem as opposed to Spicebushes alternating leaves. The flowers are very much like the flowers of Japanese Honeysuckle and there are two different colors you will find to the flowers. Some flowers will be white and other flowers will be yellow, making them a very lovely looking combination to see. How to Identify Dutchmans Breeches - Dicentra cucullaria Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-04-15 | Dutchman's Breeches or Dicentra cucullaria by its Latin name, is an early spring plant found in moist woodlands. It has a very distinct look to the whole plant so it's easy to identify. Growing only about 1 foot tall it carpets areas it grows along side other early spring plants like Trilliums and Toothworts. The leaves are compound with a lot of divisions and to some are reminiscent of ferns. The flowers grow on long spikes And each spike can have multiple flowers on it. The plant gets its name from the fact that the flowers resemble a pair of old Dutch trousers. The flowers have two petals that appear upside down and inflated. There can be many colors to the flowers from white to yellow to light pink. When to Start Foraging in Spring - Vlog Trillium: Wild Edibles 2022-03-05 | A lot of people may be wondering when they can start foraging in the spring, like when is the earliest time to start. While you can technically forage through winter, the good greenery doesn't start to show up until the tail end of winter and beginning of spring. In this video we take a walk through the woods along a creek bottom and investigate some early spring edibles like the always available wild onions and chickweed. However we also find a welcome surprise with an early Rue Anemone and some Spring Beauties. Fall Mushroom Hunt and Maitake Harvesting Tips Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-10-27 | Hey guys in this video we go on a nice little fall mushroom hunt and go over some important tips for harvesting your Maitakes or Hen of The Woods mushroom. Fall is a great time of year for mushrooms due to the cooler temperatures and moisture. Of those mushrooms none is more highly rated than the Hen of The Woods or Maitake (Grifola frondosa). We also take a look at a couple species of other mushrooms like the Pear Shaped Puffball, a Bolete Species, and the highly poisonous Amanita mushroom. When harvesting Maitake it's important to check the color of the fronds and to ensure the pores are nice and tight to indicate freshness. With the Pear Shaped Puffball it's important to cut the mushroom in half to ensure that it is white and doesn't have a stem developing inside. White Baneberry/Dolls Eyes Poisonous Plant - Actaea pachypoda Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-10-18 | Hey guys in this quick little video we briefly discuss the unique and beautiful Dolls Eye's plant. The plant get its name from the distinct white berries that form towards the end of summer and beginning of fall. These berries have a little black dot on their end that makes them look like eyes from a childhood doll. The leaves are compound but variable in shape and can have multiple lobes or none at all. The margin of the leaves will also be double toothed. Common Chicory Identification - Cichorium intybus Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-09-04 | Hey guys, in this video we go over the identification features of Common Chicory. This plant is extremely prolific along roadsides and is easily spotted by its light blue to indigo colored flowers with ten to fifteen petals. Each petal will have distinct notches or indentions along the top. The leaves of Chicory are alternating and can have several variations. On the top of the plant the leaves are small and lance shaped, however they get much larger the further down the plant you go. Also the leaves will change shape to start to appear like Dandelion leaves with lobes and teeth along the margins, especially for the basal rosette. How to Identify Winged Sumac - Rhus copallina Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-08-18 | Hey guys in ths video we take a look at the Winged Sumac or Rhus copallina. This is one of three commonly found Sumac species that is edible and very highly rated. This plant is not anything like poison sumac and it looks very different and grows in different habitats. The Winged Sumac is a tree that produces edible berries in the late summer and early fall after it's yellow and white flowers become pollinated. The flowers arrive in the middle of summer and last about 2 to 3 weeks. The leaves of Winged Sumac are composite, consisting of about 11 leaflets, all connected by a wing like structure along the stem. The leaflets are smooth margined and are arranged in an opposite pattern. This tree grows to about 15 to 30 feet in height and loves to grow along the edges of roadsides, clearings, wood lines, and fields so it is easy to spot. The berries are bright to dark red and have little hairs along them that must be washed away before consuming as they are an irritant. In this video I give 6 reasons from my own personal experiences. It could be things like consumer culture leading us to believe that it isn't necessary. In other cases foraging is hindered by lots of various laws and legislation, especially depending upon if the land is public or private property. These can oftentimes have confusing laws or just laws that are outdated or even where the list of allowable plants is rather small and limited. Eating Wild Japan by Winifred Bird - Book Review Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-04-25 | Eating wild Japan is a very in depth and well written engaging book that captivates the reader with traditional methods of preparation of wild edible plants. The book is comprised of a few different sections. It has a section that is comprised of essays on foraging in Japan throughout different regions, wherein the author takes you through her experiences among the traditional cultures of Japan and how they harvest and prepare these wild plants. She also talks about the impact of foraging to the local culture and how foraging has gone through multiple phases throughout Japanese history. After the essays there is a guide to wild plants of Japan that are really popular in traditional villages and in the restaurant industry. This guide is not meant for identification but instead to give the reader an appreciation for the various plants that are a huge part of the culture. The final section is a collection of recipes to really showcase the various ways in which these plants are used and it really gives the reader a chance to learn some ways you might experiment with various plants. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and I think many of you will also. How to Identify Wintercress, Creasy Greens, Yellow Rocket - Barbarea vulgaris Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-04-15 | Hey guys in this video we take a look at a wild plant known as Wintercress. This plant has a few other common names and is very popular throughout the globe as a late winter/early spring wild edible. Wintercress has four petaled yellow colored flowers with alternating leaves that can take on various shapes. Today we'll see three types of leaves you will find on this plant. One type will be lance shaped with sharply toothed margins, another type will be more rounded in appearance with various small lobes running down the leaf stem. The final set will be more of a mixture of the first two with a more lance shaped top and the lobes running down the sides. The stem is very stiff and almost feels and looks square. It will have distinct grooves running vertically through the main stem. Wintercress can be foraged in late winter and early spring for the leaves which are best boiled but can be eaten raw in moderation. The flowerbuds can be boiled for a few minutes and served like you would broccoli. This is a very easy plant to identify and it grows all across the United States. How to Identify Henbit - Lamium amplexicaule Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-04-07 | Henbit, or Lamium amplexicaule, is a very common plant found on lawns around edges of houses, barns, landscaping, and gardens. It's bright purple to violet colored flowers are easy to see when it blooms in early spring. Henbit has round to kidney shaped leaves with deeply scalloped edges that grow in an opposite pattern along the main stem of the plant. Being in the mint family it does have a square stem. Along this stem you will find clusters of the flowers growing out of the leaf axils, or leaf nodes. A Correction And Apology For Yesterdays Video Trillium: Wild Edibles 2021-04-07 | Yesterday I uploaded a video on a plant I have always called Ground Ivy. It has been brought to my attention that it is more frequently known as Henbit. I was unaware of that because I've always called it Ground Ivy. There is a plant called Ground Ivy but I always called it Creeping Charlie. The plant I know as Henbit others know as Purple Dead Nettle. This created a lot of confusion that needed to be clarified so I made this video. Yesterdays video is set to unlisted and I removed ads from it so as not to continue the confusion. I apologize for not using the latin name in the video like I normally do because I think that really added to the confusion. It slipped my mind and I apologize for that negligence on my part. I hope this video clarifies and prevents any more confusion. During winter you can spend time researching and you can spend time scouting new locations for next year. In this video we talk about things to keep in mind during a scouting trip so you know what to look out for. How To Identify Common Ragweed - Ambrosia artemisiifolia - Allergenic Plant Trillium: Wild Edibles 2020-08-25 | In this video we talk about how to identify Common Ragweed or Ambrosia artemisiifolia. Common Ragweed is a very commonly found plant in fields, clearings, lawns, gardens, and roadsides. It has a relative known as Giant Ragweed and they both produce an allergenic pollen that is known to cause hay fever in those who are allergic. The leaves of this plant are pinnately divided and have teeth running along the margins of the leaf that alternate from side to side. The leaves can take on a couple of growth forms and can be in an opposite pattern or they can be alternating, oftentimes having both forms on one plant. The stem of Common Ragweed is round and hairy but more so along the top section of the plant. The flowers appear in long cylindrical spikes and tend to form out of the branch nodes along the main stem and top portions of the plant. Each plant can produce multiple flower spikes with dozens of flowers per spike so it's easy to see why this plant produces so much pollen.I hope this video has helped you guys out and I hope you learned something. Ox Eye Daisy Identification - Edible and Medicinal Plant Trillium: Wild Edibles 2020-06-23 | Ox Eye Daisy, or Leucanthemum vulgare, is a commonly found wild edible and medicinal plant that can be found along roadsides and in fields. It looks similar to your typical garden daisy but it does have some unique features, this is why positive identification is important. This video will walk you through the identification features of this beautiful plant so you will have no worries out in the field. With it's white flowers that have a disc shaped center and numerous ray like petals that are characteristic of daisy species it's somewhat easy to notice. The leaves are variable, starting off rather large near the basal rosette and getting smaller as we go up the stem of the plant towards the top. The alternating leaves also have rounded lobes at the base and towards the top get sharper and become toothed along the margins. It can be frequently found in clusters or small colonies in fields, clearings, roadsides, and edges of wood lines. The plant is edible and medicinal depending upon which part you want to harvest and the time of year it is found. How to Identify Jack In The Pulpit - Wild Plant Identification Trillium: Wild Edibles 2020-04-20 | Jack in the Pulpit is a very commonly found plant in the early spring, especially while Morel hunting. The plant has a distinct look and appearance to it making it easy to distinguish from surrounding vegetation. The plant has a tri-foliate leaf pattern with a unique cup like flower. The actual flower however is inside the cup, or spathe. Jack in the Pulpit grows throughout the eastern United States and can sometimes be confused with poison ivy due to the tri-foliate leaf pattern. It grows from a corm which is edible, however due to the high amount of Calcium Oxalate crystals it requires very special preparation to be edible. It is an edible plant however, this beautiful and unique wild plant is best observed and admired while being left alone, but it is important to know how to Identify Jack in the Pulpit so you don't make any mistakes while foraging.I hope you guys enjoyed this video, I thank all of you for watching. THIS IS NOT A MOREL MUSHROOM!! Trillium: Wild Edibles 2020-04-07 | Early spring is upon us and that means Morel season is here too. When out foraging for them you might come across this fun guy instead. Known as the False Morel, this mushroom is considered potentially fatal and it is poisonous. It does look very different than the true Morel that people normally forage but that hasn't stopped some people from making this dangerous mistake. The False Morel has a very ugly brain like appearance to it whereas the true Morel has a more phallic appearance. On the False Morel we'll notice wavy ridges versus the true Morel will have deep pits along the cap. The False Morel also has a stem that goes through the mushroom to the top of the cap instead of a hollow stem like the mushroom we are after. Weird and Creepy Things In The Woods Trillium: Wild Edibles 2020-03-25 | When foraging there is a good opportunity to explore and discover new things. Sometimes as foragers we will come across some things that are weird or creepy, others we will come across something really cool or fascinating. This video is some of the weird things I have found recently while out in the woods. Some of them are creepy but I'm sure they probably have a rational explanation. Still, they do keep the mind wandering.
How To Clean Pine Sap Collected From The Wild Trillium: Wild Edibles 2020-03-10 | When you collect Pine sap from the wild it often has dirt and debris in it like pine needles. We need to clean this stuff out of it before we can use the sap for anything. In this video we clean out the Pine sap we collected from the wild the other day and talk about how easy it is to prepare it. The most important thing with it is to keep it hot because the sap solidifies when it cools, making it difficult to get out the debris. A couple of tools are needed to do this, one of them is a pan o heat the sap and another is a glove to keep your hands from being all sticky. Back to Eden By J. Kloss - Medicinal Plant Book Review Trillium: Wild Edibles 2020-02-04 | Back to Eden by J. Kloss is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive books on medicinal plants and herbs but it does come with some drawbacks. In this review we discuss the good things about this book and the bad things about this book. We will also look through some of the sections in the book and discuss the contents inside. When looking at Back to Eden we notice it is very thick, about 900 pages thick. The majority of the book talks about herbs and plants for medicine and gives very detailed information on preparing wild medicine as well as specific recipes for various ailments. Some sections of Back to Eden are organized alphabetically which really helps you to find what you're looking for. The book contains an index to the plants contained inside as well as a regular index in the back. Back to Eden also contains a glossary to old fashioned medical terms and modern medical terms for herbal medicine. There will experts from around the world speaking about wild edibles and the event is expected to bring approximately 6,000 - 10,000 people. Horta 2020 will be about an hour north of Helsinki in the Lahti region of Finland. There will be discussions, lectures, walks, products, and more. Identifying Trees By Leaves And Bark Trillium: Wild Edibles 2019-10-19 | Hey guys in this video we discuss identifying trees by their leaves and bark. In this video we cover several trees for identification purposes. The Sassafras tree is a very common wild edible tree that can have three distinct variations of leaves. We will talk about these in depth as well as looking at its bark. Oak and Poplar trees are very well known for Acorns and Mushrooms respectively, and they are easy to identify. We will talk about and look at 2 species of Oak trees and the differences between their leaves to help aspiring foragers learn what type of Acorns they have in the area. The Tulip Poplar is well known for being a harbinger of edible mushrooms but identifying it is difficult for some. How to Identify Canadian Goldenrod - Wild Plant Identification Trillium: Wild Edibles 2019-08-23 | Hey guys in this video we talk about how to identify Canadian Goldenrod. This is a very common plant that can be found in fields, clearings, and prairie like environments. As the name might suggest, the flowers of Canadian Goldenrod are yellow or golden in color. There are several species of Goldenrod in the United States but this is the most common. The flowers grow in a loosely formed panicle on the top section of the plant in an alternating fashion. The leaves are narrow and lance shaped with very fine toothed margins. The leaves will grow in an alternate fashion as well and have three very prominent leaf veins. Canadian Goldenrod can grow from 4 to 6 ft. high and is beneficial for native pollinators.I thank you all for watching this video and I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you learned something.
