@succostacos invented the beamer chain at the start. HUGE credit to him for that!
This is probably the first time Chapter 4 has been pushed hard by anybody. A lotttttttttt of resets at the strang chain. Made a couple small mistakes and excluded a big strat that saves over 1 second, but didn't want to grind it again. 2:24.xx would be a perfect run.
I have no plans for 2023. The only reason I got pulled into doing this run was because I got the medge itch after editing Tacos' strat montage + I had some spare time.
Song: Bonobo - The Keeper (Alex Banks Remix)
7.0x should be possible for someone crazy enough to grind for it.
I worked on this intermittently for the last few months in my spare time. It is one demo from start to finish; no splices. Huge credit to @succostacos for inventing the first chain and also for theorising lots more ideas! He also helped to get that final strang to pop in the last chain as I struggled to get it.
Why the slow climb over the rail? You can't speedvault it without a run-up into the beamer. It wasn't worth setting up. The slow climb isn't as slow as it looks ;)
Also why the standstill before the camera beamer? It seems like unnecessary time loss, but it was very necessary as I had to line up the exact coordinates and exact velocity with another demo that had already achieved the chain. The inputs of this other demo were then copy/pasted into the main demo.
As for me, life is better without the game. The past 18 months have been enlightening as I've been able to focus on other things. This little TAS project was a minor commitment I could withstand if worked on in small bursts.
I hope you are all well and enjoying the holidays. I have another package that will drop into your sub feed tomorrow, so keep an eye out. After that, there are no plans. Back to retirement.
I planned to retire from the game when the chapter wr unhoard was finished in March. However, I hung around for a while longer and got the idea to run any% one last time before leaving (since 2018 I regretted not getting a 27:xx, which shouldn't have been too hard). I started streaming any% for a couple weeks and got 27:46, excluding strats to play it safe and making huge mistakes. It was 5 seconds behind wr. I decided to keep doing runs for the wr. I should have been able to get a 27 flat or even a 26:xx. But it wasn't long before I lost motivation. I had achieved the 27 I wanted and the wr was unnecessary. It was unimportant. I've had the any% wr 14 times in the past, so it isn't anything new to me. I stopped doing runs and my any% journey was over.
But I couldn't just fade away like that. I had to go out with a bang and I looked for the most insane time trial run I could possibly do. A wr with two frame perfect input tricks? I'm in. The first kick in the chain determines the entire chain. A spacebar kickglitch + a perfect angle. You have no idea how hard it is. I had to throw myself at the wall hundreds of times and hope the stars would align. I also decided to exclude a 0.5s double kickglitch strat due to it being extremely annoying and decreasing the number of runs that reached the big chain. At the time of getting this run (1st July) the official wr was 35.02 by bastounm33. Getting wr on this trial by over 2 seconds felt incredible.
I'm happy to have done it all. Battling with floubz, zubmit, walrus, and phillotrax in any%; battling with Isyfly, phillo, lambo, basto, and voetiem in chapters and time trials; making strat montages with glost, lambo, stoggervlazar, blumage, heki, and bbgn; working on the segmented run with the whole community; and, of course, making good friends along the way.
This is goodbye. I have "retired" from the game a couple times before, but this time I am confident I will not be returning.

The journey to getting this run has traumatised me. I lost two WR runs to the end, the second one being 1-3 frames early:

Happy I lost them though because it allowed me to get sharper at chapter 9 and pull off an even better run.
Song: Kid Francescoli - Moon
I was too low to coil the top of the infinite wallclimb unfortunately and also lost a second inside the vents. Still an ok run.
Song: Kiasmos - Looped
In 2011 D4rkw15h got the first sub 3. In 2020 I got the first sub 2 :)
Song: Holy Holy - Flight
A very good run. I got so sick of resetting 6A. There is one more strat that could be added to chapter 6 but it is such a nightmare run already that I don't want to think about it.
Song: Suulo vs. Curl - Tapana's Kitchen
I left this chapter til last because I was so afraid of it. I was so tempted to exclude it from the hoard but nulaft encouraged me to go for it. I thought it would take 1-2 months to even get WR. It took just over a week, most of which was practice.
I started recording warm up runs with no intention of finishing them, but when I got the 5b chain in this run I decided to get serious and try to finish it.
Missed the kg wallboost before the first door, losing half a second, and movement in 5a was jank (because I thought this wasn't going to be a real run lol).
Song: Bob Moses - All I Want
Inspiration to use this song (the coolest chapter WR of all time): youtube.com/watch?v=tV4yiVvac6Y
An ok run. I messed up the jump off the train and landed before the rail instead of on it, losing a second. Oh well. This run will probably be beaten quickly.
Song: Sebastian Weikum - Midnight Train
Not perfect. A couple minor mistakes. 2:23.xx seems doable.
The 3C chain saves 2 seconds ;)
Song: Sascha Funke - Mango
I spent a looooooong time on this chapter. Spent the first week practicing and comparing strats to calculate the fastest time possible, then I discovered the swing skip in stormdrains and had to delay the runs until I was proficient with that. After that I spent 2-3 weeks doing runs. When this perfect run happened, I broke down. I can't even describe what I felt.
Song: The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony (Amonita & Makebo Remix)
Not a perfect run but very close. Had two minor mistakes.
My fastest time to the elevator is 25.35 - youtube.com/watch?v=72Mj9TvUQCg
I also had a WR-pace run die to the very end that I simply could not believe - youtube.com/watch?v=nVz_v0bcC8s
Song: Soul Capsule - Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)
Hey everyone, I have been working on something big since September last year. Can't wait for it to drop tomorrow. This has been done in other speedrun communities but not the Mirror's Edge speedrun community. I hope you enjoy the teaser :)
Though this run doesn't feel very special for two reasons. 1: It's not as clean as the previous record. 2: I removed one of the previously done strats to make this run easier.
Also, the double kickglitch into the springboard (1:14) is easy with scroll wheel and reaction time. Just delay the wallrun. No spacebar kickglitch needed.
Might go for a 1:15.xx eventually.

Rest in peace, LamboGD :P
Song: Closed Paradise - Trippin' On Sunshine
Arland was jank. I skipped doing the fast door kick because of a bad landing on the garden bed and opted to just barge it and lose time. My fastest elevator time is 25.64.
Huge chains and kickglitching around corners. What next?

Also a big thank you to steveglowpunk and keku for their insight. Without them, the pigeon cinematics would not have been made; they were a lot harder to make than what they look.

Unfortunately the strang ending was a frame from hitting the checkpoint. If it worked, it would have saved 1.5 seconds :(
And thanks to SwissQwertz. The huge chain in Chroma was his idea.
Also the vent bounce glitch had already been found in 2009 by a few people but they had not been fully explored and put to good use until now :D
Also, the chapter 5 world record was blocked because the music policy changed. An unblocked version of it can be found here: youtube.com/watch?v=hOMxtDgTcAg
Song: Phaxe & Morten Granau - "Yellow". Huge shout outs to SwissQwertz for helping find suitable music and recommending Morten Granau, and also for buying the song for me! A very generous act that I can't thank enough.
Music: Teardrop - Massive Attack
Music: DVBBS - Pyramids (Fatho Remix)
Feels good to get this; the previous world record from August 2015 was 37.19 and had absolutely dreadful movement. It was embarrassing.
Song: Dannic & Sick Individuals - Blueprint
I got a bad wallboost after the first zipline and lost 0.3 sec, and a bad turn jump elsewhere lost about 0.2 sec. Another 1.1 lost for not doing the kg onto fence strat. A perfect run with all strats could possibly be a very low 38.xx
Shoutouts to Twiggy, TigerJames, Zerocool, and PresidentFreeman (and a few other people) for sticking around the stream during all the restarts.
I was expecting to get a 32.xx at best but as the restarts continued and continued and continued I became better in areas and managed to scrape off more time and a 31.xx eventually looked achievable.
Missed a wallboost before the first chain and lost about .25 sec, so a 31.4x should be possible with these strats.
