It seems one of the best RPGs has some unused rooms in it!

I don't think I need to explain what happened recently, but with so many options to look through I eventually settled on something easier to emulate. While not the earliest of the HGSS prototypes, it has the earliest basic layout of Johto already set in place. The first two earliest prototypes are only the bare minimum with only an empty Sinnoh.
I initially did a quick skim through the beta with the debug tools, and quickly found out some places crash the game just by approaching them. I assume it's because certain chunks of their maps don't exist yet. New Bark Town is one of those places, so the debug tools are needed to warp directly into Elm's Lab. The right side of Cherrygrove City is also prone to crash, so I didn't even bother to attempt to go there or Route 29 for safety.
Just Mario Kart 64 being Mario Kart 64?
I actually did a couple more runs before 1.18 went public and was in the middle of another when my progress carried over. I'll do another recorded full run on 1.18 after I finish these last few regions of this particular round.
For some reason the Colosseum Bonus Disc couldn't be used to distribute it. However, it was compatible with the Japanese Berry Glitch Fix Zigzagoon disc after a few modifications in the disc's data. As such, a mod was made that replaced the normal multiboot for the shiny Zigzagoon with the unused Negaiboshi Jirachi multiboot. With this, it's finally able to be distributed for the first time to the general public with the right equipment.
Ironically, the Berry Glitch Fix Zigzagoon disc's internal name and banner description indicates that it's based on the currently unreleased Negaiboshi Jirachi disc.
Through a combination of the mod, Nintendont, a GBA, a GCN-GBA cable, and either a Japanese Ruby or Sapphire, I was able to distribute Negaiboshi Jirachi as if I attended the events from decades ago. You need to reboot your Wii after every distribution though or else the proceeding Jirachis after the first will be clones. Luckily, unlike WISHMKR Jirachi, you can obtain as many Negaiboshi Jirachis as you want which is apparently how the original distribution works. It even has a unique, albeit pretty barebones, receiving screen on the GBA which I unfortunately couldn't record.
PKHeX considers all of the Jirachis legit too! :)
The mod for the Japanese Berry Glitch Fix Zigzagoon disc to distribute the unused Negaiboshi Jirachi can be found in this topic:

I've been on and off of this hunt because other games caught my attention. When I got back to it these last few months it finally happened!
Like Darkrai and Shaymin, I actually shiny hunted Arceus in my OG Pearl a while back. Unfortunately, they can't transfer through Poke Transporter so this was my only chance to have its shiny form in the modern era.
I'M SO HAPPY TO FINALLY CALL THIS A SUCCESS!
Translation seems to have just been started as well, so there might not be a lot of changed graphics yet.

Like always, only a few instruments needed to be reassigned. Everything else was how it sounded when I put the soundbank over it.
With that, I've completed everything Grand Prix has to offer on 1.18. Guess I have to get back to National Battle and rank up even more!
While this was discovered a while back an external model viewer was used to view it which came with some errors. However, there's no such errors if they're played in the debug roms!
I still absolutely adore the visuals for the Pac-Man Cup tracks.
A few channels needed their own instruments, but other than that everything else was automatically assigned. The Fossil Fighters Champions soundfont seems to fit into a few select songs here and there.
DK Jungle's music is absolutely amazing!
This was actually something I've wanted to do for a while since you only have a specific time frame with each of the individual forms until it ends at Crimson Ravager. Because of the restrictions I wanted the first three forms to have their time in the limelight, where I found out that the later tournaments that open up are clearly NOT made with those forms in mind. Near perfect stats across the board and difficult strategies to get around make those opponents very tough without two Paleo Pals with LP Recovery Support Shots. Despite the odds though, they are beatable with the first three Nibbles forms all at once.
I actually would have chose the actual slot for my Nibbles form, but since I almost never used him in my playthrough he was still at a low rank. Yes, the game keeps track of what rank you had for each individual Nibbles form at the time and if you hack in their particular slot they'll be at the same rank from before it "evolved" into the stronger ones. Because of that I picked Crimson Ravager and modified it as the base Nibbles form which also comes with the caveat of having access to the unused Somersaurus Kick attack which is completely useless. It also applies to Violet who has Nibbles' second form and an unused fourth attack which does nothing. Those moves would really only come into play though if they get confused thankfully.
The cursor was there for moral support. :)
The embargo of playing 1.18 for Patreon users only has been lifted, and now I can finally get back to this game again! With so much new stuff added, this is going to take a while to get through. This is actually my very first time booting back into my profile so I went into this completely blind at first.
Let me just say that the Pac-Man tracks are now instant favorites of mine.
While not as crazily hard as the Axem Rangers, he's up there.
This started off as nothing more than a simple run to see how long it went for, and to my surprise it didn't go on endlessly. You can actually get a trophy for this!
Because I did this on an emulator with save states I guess you can call this a sort of cheated run. I lost a lot of battles due to luck so this would have actually ended a while back. My personal best on console is eighty before I rolled Dinolady/Dinolord/Dinomite and one unfortunate critical ended everything.. The team in the video is the same one I used for that streak.
Good luck to those who want to get this tournament's friend trophy!
The hack buffed the group up considerably to the point where you need to have a good strategy for the best chance to win. I actually had a good run going despite the sheer lengths I went through to get there...then 1:08:46 happened.
Yeah, the creator didn't fully bugtest the Trident weapon and I wanted to scream.
After MANY extra attempts with the Trident unequipped I got on a run I thought was going badly. At that point I thought I would use the rest of the battle as practice for future attempts, but then I took down Axem Pink and my thoughts changed. From there I fired up recording to see where the rest of the attempt would go...and it didn't disappoint.
It almost felt like I was playing Super Mario RPG Armageddon at times.
For those that don't want to end up experiencing what I've went through, if you intend to use the Green Ninjakoopa for these fights, DON'T equip the Trident.
I made save states for the last two tracks because I didn't want to have to go through the second course again. It's basically "How lucky are you to get any Feathers". I spliced out all of the losses there so it wouldn't bloat the video's length to astronomical amounts.
NOPE!
This was from my first attempt at the Count Down superboss. I ran into the EXACT SAME ISSUE where sprites failed to despawn after using a weapon, and after several of them filled the screen the game ran out of memory, froze, then DELETED MY SAVE FILES. Thankfully I had backup save states to recover from it, but I was pissed to run into the same save deletion issue that also plagued another SMRPG hack.
So, yeah. Avoid using the Trident item you get from defeating Ganon.
I can't believe there's STILL SMRPG hack creators out there that haven't learned from the example set by the Quake Hammer from Legend of the Axem Rangers.
Five superbosses await that are far stronger than anything encountered beforehand, although I consider some past bosses on par with them in certain circumstances. Defeat them and you've truly beaten this hack.
I'm glad these are not Super Mario RPG Armageddon levels of difficult because then I'd probably never complete this.
The final fight of the five is a whole other beast so I'll have to tackle that in a separate video.
00:00:00 Start
00:01:35 Smilax
00:17:43 Ice Snake and Fire Snake
00:32:42 Birdo
00:41:38 Count Down
Like the Acorn Cup, everything up to the last life on the final track was done without making a save state so I wouldn't have to grind my way back for another shot.
Wish I knew that future versions fixed CPUs not slowing down in offroad sections before doing this.
00:00:00 Start
00:01:07 Magus
00:15:53 Mother Brain
00:37:09 Ganon
00:45:27 King Dedede
00:53:41 Chocobo
1:03:47 Mani Mani Statue
Everything up to the final attempt on the last track was done without making a save state. By then I simply lost all of my patience from constant failures and just wanted to get it over with. Call it cheating or whatever, but I had enough after I kept getting bad luck with the CPUs.
It's basically like the vanilla phase two Smithy battle where different forms do different tactics. I've sort of figured out which form matched which Smithy head so I knew how to approach them. Even so, there's way harder fights if you choose to take them on...
I also gotta love Kooper's reaction after everything's finished.
0:00 Starting cutscene
4:40 Shadow Queen battle
28:31 Ending
00:00:00 Jester and Trickster
00:07:51 Baba Yaga
00:13:31 Hex
00:17:48 Krakkasib
00:20:30 Krakkasib 2 (accidentally fought out of order)
00:23:31 Krakkasib 3
00:31:56 Koopa Bros and Kooper clones
00:44:54 Hex 2
00:49:17 Alli and Clemander
1:03:43 Shadoo
Upon clearing a CC you unlock the Mirror and Extra Difficulty options. The latter basically makes it so the CPUs requires TAS level perfection to beat. I grinded SO MUCH on this and failed so many times until I got this particular run. I was barely hanging on until 13:48 happened, where I seriously thought it would end as another failed attempt...
Mario is my fucking savior.
Don't ask me to also enable the "PermaMini" option either because it literally makes winning impossible with Extra Difficulty on.
To add insult to injury, this is actually the second time I've completed this. I actually earned the gold in an earlier attempt but my screen recorder only recorded the wrong parts. :/
Apparently there's more Mario Kart 64 builds than the ones initially discovered. They can be reconstructed through certain commits, and out of all of them this one is the earliest. Hidden Palace has this detailed as some sort of US localization build, but the game has been already out for years if its date is to be believed.
Maybe it was a reference for the iQue version to be based on?
00:00:00 Ball Dude
00:19:16 Captain General Guy
00:26:50 Mob-omb
00:32:49 Kooper intermission
00:40:00 The Underchomp
00:49:57 Johnny
00:56:28 Clemander
1:02:24 Mastablasta
1:07:09 Exdoor
1:16:08 Factory Chief and Gunyolk 2.0
Because there's so many new fights and additions this will take multiple parts to get through.
00:00:00 Fice T and Garry Sun
00:02:51 Alli
00:08:43 Booster
00:13:11 Super Blooper
00:15:51 Super Blooper 2
00:19:45 Glitz Pit
1:05:24 Ant-Agonizer and the Big Bang Bombers
1:08:58 Gonzales Jr. (with a failed attempt)
1:19:01 Kooper intermission
Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah, good luck getting it here.
Beating all cups in one difficulty also unlocks the Mirror Mode and Extra Difficulty AI options. Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah, that won't go over well...
Even though the soundtrack is fantastic, I think Rice Terrace has to be my favorite.
Yeah, I'm switching to Koopa Troopa and Toad for the latter two cups.
It goes to show how far we have gone from simple track hacks. And then there's the Super Mario Kart Deluxe hack around the corner...
I actually reset the game expecting to see the save wipe, but surprisingly it actually kept my progress and opened up the Extra option! Because the game still wouldn't save though it would require another full run through to see the credits again, so I'm going to end it here.
The credits were slightly changed accordingly to list off the ones who localized this unreleased version.
Also, I'm kind of sad I never got to pull off the large Mushroom skip in Lakeside Park. :(
I never thought he would actually say anything different.
Even so, I've seen even faster completions than what I did so my record is far from perfect.
