This passage has been interpreted by some, to say they can lose their salvation. I was once upon a time of that belief, but by Gods grace I no longer am. Vs 4-6 “For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.”
This passage is excellent to prove there are false converts.
In vs 4-5 it says they gave the appearance of ‘tasting salvation.’ They may have even performed some sort of ‘work’ like repeat a sinner’s prayer, or “accept Jesus,” or make a decision, or raise their hand in church, or walk forward in an altar call. But all of those are unbiblical soteriologies.
They may have been baptized, they might have received communion, perhaps even experienced what was thought to be a gift of the Holy Spirit.
This is why it is highly unbiblical to declare an alleged new convert “saved.” Their fruit must be examined through an extended period of time, and if they truly endured to the end, then they were His.
Arminian churches and their professing Christians are partially responsible for the apostacy, that is because of them unbiblically declaring the unregenerate saved; hence creating false converts that do not endure to the end.
In vs 6 Paul even noted that it was impossible to restore them to repentance after falling away. An Apostate are those who made a profession of faith, they might even identify with a local church. But either they abandoned their profession, or their lifestyle is evidence they’ve abandoned the faith.
And the reason why they could not be restored, is because they were never saved to begin with. They gave the appearance of salvation, they may have professed with their lips, but they had no regeneration of the heart.
There is a Biblical repentance that is salvific, and that is granted by God to His elect, but there is also a worldly repentance that only looks good from the outside.
It says in 2 Corinthians 7:10-11 “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.”
John warned of false converts in 1 John. He said in 1 John 2:19, “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.”
The doctrine of the ‘Perseverance of the Saints” is all throughout the Scriptures, as well as our confession.
Chapter 17; Paragraph 1 says (in part), “Those whom God has accepted in the beloved, effectually called and sanctified by his Spirit, and given the precious faith of his elect unto, can neither totally nor finally fall from the state of grace, but shall certainly persevere therein to the end, and be eternally saved…”
Paragraph 2 says “This perseverance of the saints depends not upon their own free will, but upon the immutability of the decree of election, flowing from the free and unchangeable love of God the Father, upon the efficacy of the merit and intercession of Jesus Christ and union with him, the oath of God, the abiding of his Spirit, and the seed of God within them, and the nature of the covenant of grace; from all which ariseth also the certainty and infallibility thereof.” Jesus said in John 10:28-29, “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”
It says in Romans 8:28-30 (aka the ‘golden chain of redemption’), “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.” #Arminianism #Apostasy #ExpositionalTeaching #ExpositionalPreachingHebrews 5:1-10Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-12-06 | In this sermon I did an exposition of Hebrews chapter 5:1-10. Afterward, I tendered my resignation as pastor, giving them a six-week notice. My wife and I love this church dearly, and we will miss them dearly. But Lord willing, by faith, we are transitioning into a new chapter in our life; with new opportunities - Deo volente! In this sermon, the Lord also speaks of the prolific power of His saving Gospel. I then confess the sins of my former dispensationalism, and as a Covenant theologian how I’ve learned that keeping the Fourth Commandment, the Lord’s Sabbath Day, is still a commandment today; and is as important as the other nine commandments. As I’ve said before. “Dispensationalism is not just one err. Dispensationalism is the mothership that leads to many other errs. When an oncologist removes cancer, they don’t just remove cancer seen only on the surface of the skin. They surgically remove the root of the cancer. And so that is how dispensationalism must be treated, including “leaky dispensationalism.” Because a little leaven leavens the whole lump.” I share the bloody story of how the Lord used me to thwart active shooters at a church, killing the primary shooter, and all on the Lord’s Sabbath Day. In vs 11 he said “For He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why He is not ashamed to call them brothers,”
Now the greasy gracers or graceoholics, will reject what I’m about to say, they might even wrongfully call this a ‘works salvation.’
But in the context of this word ‘sanctifies,’ show me a professing Christian that is not sanctified, and I’ll show you either a false convert, or a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Upon being justified (saved) we do inherit an immediate form of sanctification, and that is this Greek word hagiazō (ἀγιάζω.)
This ἀγιάζω (or ἅγιος) is a part of God’s monergistic salvation. Which means the newly saved sinner inherits Christ’s imputed holiness and righteousness, as His atonement purifies them by expiation.
As it says in Hebrews 12:14 ‘without holiness we cannot see God.’
But then after justification by grace alone, thru faith alone, in Christ alone, there is a ‘progressive sanctification’ that I believe is synergistic, and that is Hagiasmos (ἁγιασμός), which is “the process of making or becoming more ἅγιος (set apart or holy).”
Holy Spirit willing, the ‘progressive sanctification’ will increase and mature within believers, some more than others.
Chapter 13, Paragraph 3 of our confession says,
“In which war, although the remaining corruption for a time may much prevail, yet, through the continual supply of strength from the sanctifying Spirit of Christ, the regenerate part does overcome; and so the saints grow in grace, perfecting holiness in the fear of God, pressing after an heavenly life, in evangelical obedience to all the commands which Christ as Head and King, in his Word has prescribed to them.”
Matthew Henry said,
“Christ sanctifies; he has purchased and sent the sanctifying Spirit: the Spirit sanctifies as the Spirit of Christ. True believers are sanctified, endowed with holy principles and powers, set apart to high and holy uses and purposes. Christ and believers are all of one heavenly Father, who is God. They are brought into relation with Christ. But the words, his not being ashamed to call them brethren, express the high superiority of Christ to the human nature.” Show me one professing Christian that does not tend to their ‘progressive sanctification,’ and I’ll show you one who “neglects their salvation” as warned about in last week’s sermon. And when we received His hagiazō (ἀγιάζω) upon salvation, we can then be called “brothers,” or sisters, or the brethren.
As it says in vs 11b “That is why He is not ashamed to call them brothers,” Church, because of what Christ did on that cross, He has earned us the privilege of being called brothers, sisters, or brethren…Hebrews 2:1-9 - Dont neglect your salvationMountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-09-20 | Though not intentionally this was the shortest sermon I’ve ever preached, so in ‘this video’ I also included the call to worship, communion, Gloria Patri, and the benediction. In this sermon I did an exposition of the first nine verses of chapter 2. • In vs 1-4 is ‘The duty to not neglect our salvation’ • In vs 5-9 is Christ’s sufferings are no contradiction to his preeminence.Hebrews 1:5-14Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-09-13 | In vs 9a it says God “loved righteousness and hated wickedness.” Today most of our evangelicalism has a worldly form of love. An unbiblical love that tolerates, accepts, condones, celebrates, and/or acquiesces to sin.
But the God of the Bible, and the Jesus of the Scriptures do NOT accept, condone, celebrate, and/or acquiesce to sin. In fact, He hates sin, and those whom practice sin, iniquity, and/or lawlessness. Christ does not a hold middle ground in attempt to foster an environment of “unity” or “peace” amongst sin, unbiblical views, and/or bad doctrine. Nor does He extend a “common grace” between His church, and the lost world.
And since the Scriptures tell us to be “imitators of God,” then we too must hate sin, and love righteousness.
As one scholar said, “His providence by which He rules from His throne of mediation, when rightly understood, reveals the same, and His final judgment will proclaim it before all worlds. We should imitate Him both in His love and hate; they are both needful to complete a righteous character.”Hebrews 1:1-4Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-09-06 | Today I began an expositional teaching and preaching through the book of Hebrews. Whereas I gave a brief introduction, and then the first four verses. It says in vs 2 “but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”
Many of us are former continuationists that adhered to the doctrine of continuationism. We used to believe that the spiritual gifts i.e., miracles, signs, wonders, healing, and tongues could still be practiced by some men or women today.
But as the Lord changed (reformed) us, we Reformers became cessationists, and now adhere to the doctrine of cessationism, which correctly teaches that the aforementioned gifts have ceased, and are no longer practiced by man today.
As Matthew Henry said, “God spake to his ancient people at sundry times, through successive generations, and in divers manners, as he thought proper; sometimes by personal directions, sometimes by dreams, sometimes by visions, sometimes by Divine influences on the minds of the prophets. The gospel revelation is excellent above the former; in that it is a revelation which God has made by his Son.”
So, when a professing Christian tells you that they have a “revelation by God,” or “a vision” or a direct “Word from the Lord,” be ready to correct (or rebuke) him (or her), possibly even as a false prophet.
If I have a “word from the Lord” it’s only because I am reading His Word from the pages of this Bible, or perhaps I am reciting His Scripture from memory.
But rather, it says in vs 2 that today God speaks to us thru His Son Jesus (or thru His sufficient Word).
Or as another Reformed Baptist pastor once said, “If you wanna hear God speak to you, read the Bible. If you wanna hear God speak to you audibly, read it out loud!”Pastor preaches @ the DMV, 1 responds to the Gospel call (only the Lord knows)Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-09-01 | Since I have been previously threatened arrest, detained by the police, and warned “trespass” at this location, I preached from the curb with reasonable amplification. In this sermon I discuss the relationship between the fallen angels (demons) and the sexually immoral. I also call-out the #SBC for leading the way in this apostasy of normalizing sexual immorality, specifically SBC presidents J.D. Greear and Ed Litton, that they have lied about God and should be removed from their pulpits. Note: I misspoke by stating the Pope came from Rome to Los Angeles in a helicopter, he arrived in a jet airliner. The helicopter was part of a simulation where I was assigned a fixed post, giving the appearance that he and Nancy Reagan were being lowered on top of one building, when in fact they arrived in another. That had to be done because the Pope at that time was the most likely person to be assassinated, hence a clandestine arrival had to be implemented to confuse a potential threat.
Below are some of my speakers notes.
Next in verse 7, Jude lumps Satan and His Demons along with the sexually immoral, as they wait for that great Day of Judgment.
Vs 7 “just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”
God, thru Jude boldly calls-out sexual immorality, and specifically the homosexual sins of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Speaking of the aforementioned Demons, today there is a demonic influence to hush-up on, or normalize sexual sins.
Since God told us in last weeks sermon to “contend for the faith,” and next week will be the “denunciation of false teachers,” the following is providentially appropriate.
Regarding apostates. The largest protestant denomination in the world, the Southern Baptist Church (or convention) is literally leading the way in this apostate movement.
Their past president J.D. Greear, and their newly elected president Ed Litton have both erroneously stated from their pulpits that “God whispers on sexual sins!” And they have either minimalized or normalized homosexuality.
But let us see what God says (or allegedly “whispers”) about sexual sin thru His own Words.
Including but not limited to –
• Have we forgotten that God annihilated the city of Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen 18-19)? • Have we forgotten that adultery is called a “great sin” - Gen 20:9? • That adultery is a “great wickedness” - Gen 39:9. • That adultery is worse than thievery - Proverbs 6:30-32. • That sexual immorality is an “abomination” onto the Lord. • That fornication is wicked and they will not see heaven - 1 Cor 6:9. • That homosexuality is a detestable act – Lev 20:13. • That Christ will destroy professing Christians that are sexually immoral – Rev 2:12-16. • That God killed 23,000 sexual immoral humans in one day – 1 Cor 10:8, and let us not forget the millions that have died from AIDS. • That God will make examples (or specimens) out of them – Jude 7. • That God compares the fallen angels to sexually immoral people – Jude 7. • That homosexuality is unnormal & shameful – Rom. 1 • That sexual sin is different than other sins, as it’s a sin against our own body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
1 Cor. 6:18-20 warns professing Christians “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
And some additional verses calling-out homosexuality or sexual immorality (including but not limited to).
Therefore #SBC Presidents J.D. Greear and Ed Litton have sinfully lied (slandered God) alleging that He only “whispers” about sexual sins.
Yes 100% of mankind has been born into sin, so we’re all sinners, and we all need to be saved from our sin, and all it takes is one little ‘white lie’ to condemn us in hell, but the Bible does speak specifically of sexual immorality, and homosexual sins.
Vs 7b said these sexual immoral “pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.”
God describes these sins as being “unnatural.”
It says in Romans 1: 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;....
#ReformedBaptist #ExpositoryTeaching #ExpositoryPreachingJude 1-4, Contending for the Faith without being a jerkMountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-07-05 | This is sermon one of an exposition of the Epistle of Jude. But in vs 3c he tells them that it is “necessary” to “appeal” to them, and to “contend for the faith.” If this warning to “contend for the faith” was needed then, then how much more is it needed now. Even amongst the reformed movement, there’s a push for us to compromise, to be contemporary, to be in “unity” with those whom we should not, or to be ecumenical, etcetera.
His appeal was not negotiable, nor was it optional, it was a necessary appeal (a command) to admonish them (and us) to “contend for the faith.”
This “contend for the faith” is the Greek word epagōnizomai. It is a verb, and is a ‘present infinitive,’ meaning the Christian struggle is continuous.
As Calvin said, Jude is “literally, “exhorting you;” but as he points out the end of his counsel, the sentence ought to be thus expressed. What I have rendered, “to help the faith by contending,” means the same as to strive in retaining the faith, and courageously to sustain the contrary assaults of Satan. For he reminds them that in order to persevere in the faith, various contests must be encountered and continual warfare maintained. He says that faith had been once delivered, that they might know that they had obtained it for this end, that they might never fail or fall away.”
The ‘noun form’ is contender, and the verb is to contend. Therefore, as Christians, Jude is saying that they (and us) are to be contenders who contend for the faith.
This contending for the faith is both offensive and defensive. It includes apologetics, being on the defense (or defending the faith). And it includes polemics, being on the offense (or fighting against the err, rebuking or exposing).
It also means to struggle for, to fight for (or to fight against), to earnestly contend for (or against), or an intense effort to wrestle with, or to agonize.
A Biblical Christianity is not for the faint at heart, a Biblical Christianity is not a Namby-pamby nor a pantywaist evangelicalism; but a Biblical Christianity earnestly contends for the faith.
We must uncompromisingly stand for the inerrancy, infallibility, and sufficiency of God’s Holy Spirit inspired Scriptures, and His doctrines within. However, as we contend without compromise, we must do so without being argumentive jerks.
As one author said, “Yet in contending for the faith, the believer must speak and act as a Christian. As Paul wrote: “A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient” (2 Tim. 2:24). He must contend without being contentious, and testify without ruining his testimony.”
I further describe this contending without being contentious (or a jerk), as walking a theological tightrope, toeing that thin line while having the heart of a dove, and the mind of a serpent, or as Paul said; we must “walk circumspectly.”
We contend by telling them the truth in love; however, we must trust in the Holy Spirit to change them (not ourselves), lest our contending be in the flesh.
But if we enjoy quarreling, then we need a check-up from the neck up. Additionally, this “contend for the faith” is a Hapax Legomenon. A Hapax Legomenon is a word(s) in the Bible that is used only once in the Scriptures.
Therefore, this “contend for the faith” reads like the front-page headline of a newspaper, is stands out there. And so let us pay particular attention to this verb, let us be a Church that contends for the faith, and sound doctrine. And that does so led by His Holy Spirit, not our own flesh.
Continuing in vs 3c, though he said “I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith,” but he ends that verse with “that was once for all delivered to the saints.”
Notice it does not say ‘once upon a time,’ but in fact it says “once for all” delivered to the saints.
This means the Canon is complete, the doctrine is finished. Nothing shall be added, and nothing shall be taking away from the Scriptures. God’s sufficient canonized Scriptures have been delivered to us once and for all.
That is why we must reject modern-day alleged apostles and prophets, or those whom claim they have a “revelation,” or a “word from the Lord.” That is why we must reject all cults, and all religions outside of our Biblical Christianity. Our Christianity needs no improvement, nor a move towards being more contemporary, relevant, or pragmatic.

This Communion is the last day of this month and was presented from Psalm 22. #communion #ReformedBaptist #atonement #propitiation #justification #TheGospelTradition versus Scripture - Acts 1:12-14, by Pastor Mike JohnsonMountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-04-26 | Tradition versus Scripture - Acts 1:12-14, by Pastor Mike JohnsonCommunion from Isaiah 53Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-04-21 | Occasionally I will upload a video of hosting communion at Church while teaching from a different passage. Regarding my comments about being a “Liar.” The context of that admission was needing salvation from my sins. But now that the Lord has granted me repentance, a new birth, He has given me a new character; and so, I am no longer a liar. #Communion #HolyCommunion #CommunionService #ReformedBaptist #LimitedAtonement #ResurrectionDay #EasterSunday #TheGospelThe Making of Courage, by Pastor Mike JohnsonMountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-04-05 | The Making of Courage by Mike Johnson. An Exposition of Psalm 86Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-03-29 | An exposition of most of Psalm 86. #ReformedBaptistAn Exposition of Psalm 84Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-03-22 | I pray our Lord will encourage you by this exposition of Psalm 84. #ExpositoryTeaching #ExpositoryPreaching #ReformedBaptist #Psalm84Gods Critical Race Truth, by Pastor Mike JohnsonMountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-03-15 | A topical Bible study.Who Is Haman?(in the world today), by Pastor Mike JohnsonMountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-03-08 | On this Lord's Day Pastor Mike preached this message ‘Who in Haman’ out of the book of Esther, an explanation and application to our current political climate.Ministering to a most likely ‘demon possessed’ man (edited version)Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-03-03 | This was a 40-minute encounter, but for obvious reasons, at this time I am only provided this excerpt. Though it was edited-out, he even soiled his pants, and he is not the first time I’ve seen this occur. Nevertheless, out of the many others I’ve evangelized, perhaps he was the sincerest. I am thankful that he did not become combative, as some have. Most importantly, please pray for this man! #Demonology #Demons #ReformedBaptistExposition of Psalm 76Mountain Reformed Baptist Church2021-03-01 | While doing expository teaching on this chapter, I also applied the importance of believing in the God of these Scriptures. As one woman yesterday that was killing her child at an abortion mill, claimed to already believe in both God and Jesus. I also discussed the importance of the Doctrine of Divine Impassibility, as well as the Decrees of God. And how God decreed the infamous massacre at the Jason Alden concert, as well as other notable events mentioned in this sermon. #Impassibility #ExpositoryTeaching #ReformedBaptist
