Waltz of the Blue Butterflies - Easy 3/4 piano song Nicoline van Goor Piano Music 2020-02-29 | A blue morpho butterfly is waltzing in the air. That was the image I had in mind when composing this song. I came up with the melody many years ago and finished the song only recently. Sometimes it's hard to find time and energy for playing the piano, composing new songs, making videos, watching all your videos and leaving messages at your channels. So I'm happy to see you're still here ;) The song is recorded with my Zoom H4n Pro device. In this live recording you hear me playing the piano that is used in service in our church. Again, it made me so happy to be in my church all by myself and to play the piano for hours without disturbing anyone!After recording the song, I was puzzled about the video: I really wanted to have some blue butterflies flying in the air, but I couldn't find the right video footage for free. Luckily there is a Butterfly Zoo in my neighbourhood and I spent many happy hours there with my daughter, trying to film blue morpho butterflies. It took some time to find out the best settings for recording the sound of an acoustic piano. In the video you hear a live recording, played by me on a Bösendorfer grand piano. I'd be happy to hear your suggestions for Zoom H4n Pro settings for recording pianomusic.The song itself is an original composition, written in MuseScore. Maybe I was inspired by other melodies. When you recognize another song, please let me know, so I can give proper credits. The song is easy to play and it's a nice piece to practise a 'gentle left-hand-playing'. Just concentrate on the right-hand-melody and don't think of the left hand too much. This time I added some lyrics, because the song asks for it. It's a hymn, asking for peace, charity and love. The lyrics are:Dona nobis Pacem, (da) Pacem Domine,(da) Caritam, Amorem, (da) Pacem Domine.I struggled for some time with the selection of the key for this song. The song is written in G major. I found out that the melody is a little too high to sing along (at least for me). So you'd think its easy to change that to a different key (or to change the melody a bit). But after some trial and error I decided to leave it in G major, because I like the piano sound when the song is played in that key and it is really easy to play that way. And I like the melody as it is now. If you would actually like to sing the song, you can transpose it to a lower key (a experienced organist in church will surely be able to do so). You can also hum the lyrics in your head, when playing the piano, or sing an octave lower. The sheet music is - as always - available for free. How to play 3/4 and 6/8 on piano - Three Steps of Love, Six Steps of Tenderness Nicoline van Goor Piano Music 2018-10-27 | What's the difference between a 3/4 and a 6/8 time signature? On YouTube you can find many tutorials that explain why these rhythms create a totally different atmosphere ((below I added links to my favorite videos). With this piece you can practise both rhythms. To be a little more precise: in this song I used the rhythms 3/8 and 6/8, but the atmosphere of the 3/8 is the same as a 3/4 time signature. It's just a little faster, but you don't have to play it as fast as I did! The notes in the song are quite easy to play, so you can concentrate on the different rhythms. In my live recording of the song I exaggerated a little (especially in the parts with the 3/8 rhythm), so hopefully you can hear the difference. When I heard this song at his channel I was in love with it immediately. The piece is not easy to play, but when you love a song enough, it is worth practising! I played this song at the recital in the house of my pianoteacher, at the closure of the pianoseason. A windy day - A restless melody in A-minor Nicoline van Goor Piano Music 2018-01-17 | A-minor is my favorite key for compositions. I love minor melodies (though ususally I am very happy ;D). And a melody in A- minor is relatively easy to play for beginner pianists, because you only have to use the white keys on the piano. I love a song in A-minor even more when a 'harmonic minor scale' is used: that means every G becomes a G-sharp. In general: a harmonic minor scale is the same as the natural minor scale, except that the seventh degree is raised by one semitone. That sounds very nice in my opinion.You can create different moods when composing a song in A-minor (whether or not using a harmonic minor scale). This video contains a restless melody in A-minor. I didn't manage to play the piece exactly as it should be played, because I didn't play the trills (and there are really a lot of them in this piece!) and I think it should be played a little faster.
