Today we go over a more specific reason why electoralism holds elements which make it inherently much harder for the left compared with the right. Also Project 2025, Restaurants, and a eulogy to my favorite bookshop. Hydra Bookshop is still on socials, it just hasn't found a permanent home yet. 1. Incase I wasn’t clear, it's probable that most of Galloway’s and other’s views are 100% what they believe. Opportunism =/= Grifting.
Oddly Lenin probably gives the best definition of an opportunist: “The opportunist does not betray his party, he does not act as a traitor, he does not desert it. He continues to serve it sincerely and zealously. But his typical and characteristic trait is that he yields to the mood of the moment, he is unable to resist what is fashionable, he is politically short-sighted and spineless. Opportunism means sacrificing the permanent and essential interests of the party to the momentary, transient and minor interests.”

3. Just to clarify, the conservatives promised an EU vote as far back as 2013 as a way to bring over UKIP voters who were surging at the time which is my main point. The 2015 election itself didn’t trigger them to call a referendum, they were already a threat before then. The election however certainly did motivate the tories to go through with the policy
4. Whilst the Social Democrats did initially begin as Marxist-aligned socialists, the past four decades of nationalism and revisionism had severely altered their interests, as evidenced by their anti-internationalist stance during WW1, and later in 1959 when they formally removed any vestiges of being a workers party. Their interests were thereby evidently anti-working class.

5. This is an interesting thing to think about. Rakosi was the head of state of Hungary from 48-56. Under his government Kadar was sentenced to life imprisonment under the premise that he was a Horthy spy. People often say that Nagy released ‘conservative elements’ from prisons yet it was Nagy himself who released Kadar in 54 and brought him into the government. The Kadar party line however still that upheld the fascist revolution position. But hold on, if you defend the Rakosi government, this is the same government which found Kadar guilty of being a enemy of the state, and was released after the beginning of Khrushchev’s ‘revisionism’ Needless to say, party politics is a mess.

Music is by Gabor Szabo, a Hungarian musician. Selected tracks from all of this greatest hits and albums.
Annotations: 1. Remember this is oversimplified for time, I advise reading up on the first hand accounts of the events as they transpired. (Also because I know people will ask, 'Magyar' is Hungarian for Hungarians.)
2. Marxism-Leninism is an ideology made up of a synthesis between the writings of Marx and Lenin, popularized by Stalin. It was throughout the cold war, the mainstream current of Communist thought.
3. ‘Real Dengism’ is a political current in the CCP which is relatively small and refers more to Deng’s specific views and thought, not an umbrella term for the Post-Deng Chinese economy
4. *Trotsky was the leader of the Left Opposition after Lenin's death, which was in favour of eventual liquidation of the Kulaks, the Right Opposition namely Stalin and Bukharin were more in favour of letting it slide. After Trotsky went into exile Stalin went ahead with liquidation after he saw the threat. Given Trotsky’s record when it comes to these sorts of situations it isn't too hard to believe things would've gone quite similar to how they ended up happening. Actually Existing Socialism, or 'REAL' Socialism generally refers to the Soviet aligned countries of the cold war.
5. Sadly I can’t find the video but after he left for Africa he did an interview where he derided Marxism-Leninism.
6. Foco is a theory of revolution advanced through guerilla warfare, largely inspired by Guevara. As said it is not a revolutionary current in the modern day with small exception.
8. 'Euston Street Fools' refers to the Euston Manifesto in which a bunch of leftists felt the left were overly critical of the actions of the west, their response resulted in Guardian level analysis of contemporary events, many even sympathetic to the invasion of Iraq.
9. The Khaliq faction were the more militant branch and the more powerful faction during the 78-79 period, they were the ones that wanted these progressive reforms pushed through fast and wide irregardless of the circumstances, much to the Soviet’s discretion. The Parcham faction wanted a softer touch. The first thing the soviets did after invading was install the Parcham Karmal and bring their faction to prominence as they were more ‘reliable’ for the USSR to deal with. PDPA defenders push the line about the progressive reforms, yet ignore that Soviets themselves didn’t want this and preferred the less hardline approach of the Parcham.
10. The Mujahidin/Mujahedeen (Yes I know I spelt it wrong) were a broad church of ideologies, mostly pushed on by their opposition to invasion which they saw as an attack on their culture and religion, not ‘Islamo-fascism’. The Taliban formed from a faction of the Mujahidin during the civil war 92-96. The two are not interchangeable.
11. This doesn’t mean of course that you should throw out ALL testimonies as trash as some do, which for the record is really infuriating, just that you should be sceptical of certain elements.

Some people have thought at the end that I'm calling for Left Unity, this isn't the point I was trying to get across. The point is to take politics seriously, BRG at the end talks about how more privileged people flip between ideologies, Why? Because we can. We don't have the monkey breathing down our neck, so we can treat politics more like a game where we can sit back and idealise great socialist societies, instead of something that will result in a violent bitter revolution in which thousands will die, in which an aftermath where people will not get all the boons of socialism delivered to them immediately, where people will continue to want to destroy our society by any means necessary. As I say I've grown cynical as time's gone on, somehow I just can't imagine a revolution happening in Britain or America until numerous other countries have achieved it, I just get the feeling that as a society as of present, we're just not serious enough about how this is all gonna go down.Unheard Voices of West Asia and North AfricaBadMouse2019-04-29 | A video about the plight of indigenous minorities in WANA and the Eurocentric viewpoints by which we analyse them.

Its a joke...Private vs Personal PropertyBadMouse2017-03-25 | Twitter - Badmouse101 A short tutorial for people who don't understand the differences between Private Property and Personal Property. Edit: In addition to Private Property being used for profit, what is also crucial is that it must be exploiting other people's labour for profit. This marks the difference between someone being a wood turner using their own labour (A personal Lathe), and a factory using 100 lathes to make money for a company using employees.

"People fled East Germany not West Germany, this is a stupid analogy" This scenario I have described is whereby both sides are on an equal playing field from the beginning. If you look at history, Socialism has not been on the same playing field as Capitalism, Socialism has always arisen from Capitalism (or something to that effect), not from some entity completely separate from this system, and thereby it was not on a level playing field. As I have stated, Capitalism relies on a steady supply of Workers in order for such businesses people to succeed and gain wealth in the first place. Thereby the point is, why would you want to work a shitty job when an equally sized organised Commune is sitting right on your doorstep. The justification might be that - You have the potential to be the one who stomps his foot down on the workers - but this is 1. A pretty shitty reason, and 2. Only a small amount would ever reach that level.
