Harrier Trail RunningSanna -Against The Tide is the story of ultra runner Sanna Duthie’s attempt to run the entire 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in under 50 hours.
Harrier PRO Trail Team athlete Sanna set out on her attempt on Thursday 24th April and thing’s didn’t 100% go to plan but the grit, resilience, and raw determination she showed are exactly why we’re so proud to have her as part of the Harrier team.
Watch the highs, lows, and everything in between as Sanna takes on one of the UK’s most iconic coastal trails. Filmed by Stephen J Reid, this 35 minute film shows the real story, not just of a record attempt, but of what it means to dig deep, listen to your body, and make big calls in the toughest moments.
When you're chasing big dreams on the trails, it’s never just about the finish line. It’s about the adventure, the lessons, and the community you meet along the way.

Ultimately, we encourage you to venture out, apply your knowledge, and enjoy the support your poles can provide on your adventures. How to Store your Running PolesHarrier Trail Running2024-10-29 | Efficiently storing and accessing poles during a run is an essential skill.
Learn how to plan when and how to put your poles away in your race vest to ensure smooth transitions. Incorporating pole management into training runs will build comfort and familiarity, even when fatigued.
Practice storage techniques, such as using a mirror for guidance, to ensure participants can easily access their poles during races without hassle.Where do you train with running poles? 🗻Harrier Trail Running2024-10-27 | It’s important to adapt pole usage to the various terrains encountered during runs. Different gradients - uphill, downhill, and flat - affect pole techniques.
Specific strategies can be adopted for navigating steps, technical terrain, and traverses, such as using a double pole plant on steps and storing poles when scrambling. We encourage flexibility in technique based on terrain but, overall, the focus is on safety and maximizing pole benefits across diverse environments. How to Use Poles Downhill 📉Harrier Trail Running2024-10-25 | Using poles for running or walking downhill offers benefits such as added support, balance, and braking. Planting poles in front and down the hill will relieve weight from the legs, especially during steep descents.
"Palming" the poles is a useful technique for putting weight through the poles and jumping over obstacles. We encourage experimentation with uphill techniques, like the step-by-step planting method, on gentle downhill gradients to understand the overall advantages of pole use. What do you love most about a trail run?Harrier Trail Running2024-10-24 | … psst, kit deserves kudos too! It is particularly effective for uphill terrain, providing continuous momentum.
Key points include keeping arms straight, alternating pole leads to avoid strain, and counting steps for rhythm. While challenging to master, this technique is valuable once learned, offering a strong and efficient method for tackling hills.Carbon VS aluminium poles: the WEIGHT MATCH 🥊💥Harrier Trail Running2024-10-23 | They both have fantastic features, but we all eventually look at numbers: how much do our new poles range weight?

👉 Don't forget to pre-order your running poles at harrierrunfree.co.ukLearn the Double Pole Plant Technique 😱Harrier Trail Running2024-10-22 | The double pole plant technique is particularly useful for uphill movement, but also applicable on flat or downhill terrain. The key is planting both poles simultaneously in front, then pushing to drive forward. This method offers both upward and forward momentum, making it effective for running and walking. Aim to plant poles every 4-6 steps, focusing on straight arms for efficient pushing. Coordination with foot movement isn't necessary since poles are planted together.Poles that will SURVIVE the Spine 😱Harrier Trail Running2024-10-22 | Discover Harrier's new range of aluminium poles. It can be applied to both running and walking, and works well on uphill, flat, and even downhill terrain, where poles can be used to brake. This technique involves planting poles at regular intervals, such as every four steps, while keeping arms straighter for better leverage. The Basic Running Technique... with Running PolesHarrier Trail Running2024-10-19 | This module teaches a method for running with poles, where you plant a pole on every footstep, with the right pole planted on the left footstep. Due to the higher running cadence, bending your arms is necessary to move the poles quickly. The key is to coordinate opposite arms and legs. This technique is quite energy-intensive and most effective for powering up short, steep hills.EXCLUSIVE! Your technique should be adjusted based on where and how your poles are planted. Planting poles at different angles and positions affects forward momentum, braking, or weight relief on joints. While straight arms are recommended for walking, running requires more flexibility, especially on varied terrain. This module explores adapting pole use to achieve the desired support, speed, and control across different conditions. The most common mistakes walking with poles ‼️Harrier Trail Running2024-10-15 | Improve your walking technique with poles by addressing common issues like using the same arm and leg in sync or swinging poles from the elbow instead of the shoulder. In this module, we talk about maintaining proper posture and lifting poles with hands/fingers.
Practice varying your pace and stride length to refine your technique. Also, prepare to adapt your pole use for different terrains to enhance performance and comfort.Do you REALLY know how to walk with polesHarrier Trail Running2024-10-12 | We look at how to walk efficiently with poles by focusing on body posture, techniques for swinging and planting poles, and maximising forward movement.
We cover the ideal body position, proper use of straps, and breaking the process into two stages: dragging the poles, then lifting and planting them correctly. You will learn how to apply pressure to the poles to drive yourself forward, adapt techniques for different terrains, and avoid common mistakes like bending arms or using inefficient arm-leg coordination.Pole Buying guide... in less than 30 secondsHarrier Trail Running2024-10-08 | In this module, you’ll understand how to choose the right poles for you, based on material and length. Though sometimes called "cheat sticks," poles are legal in most races and are commonly used in European mountain races like UTMB. We look at two main uses for poles: providing support and propelling forward, similar to trekking and cross-country skiing. We also examine how poles help on different terrains (uphill, downhill, flat) and in both walking and running.✨ Introducing our NEW Course: Running with Poles ✨Harrier Trail Running2024-10-02 | Throughout this Pro Poles course, we’ll present a variety of techniques for using your poles effectively.
