By all accounts, this house seemed quite ordinary aside from its state of disrepair and apparent lack of visitors. However, were you to view a house such as this as the living space of merely a single family, you may find your perspective a bit obtuse for our tale. You see, this story takes place in a much smaller world – the immense world that lives within the walls of this great house. Under the guidance of his advisors, chiefly that of Padre Primero Borjido, the adolescent monarch works to maintain the kingdom that his ancestors sculpted Gerdes into - a land of wealth and privilege.Though Gerdes thrives peacefully upon the world stage, the success of many is built upon what happens behind the curtains.In order to navigate the waters of Gerdessi society, one must strike a careful balance between debauchery and propriety. Assassination, thievery, slander, illicit business, and trysts are often committed at night by the same hands that conduct state affairs during the day.This is simply how life is in Gerdes. The half-elven man had brought an unprecedented time of unity and peace to the kingdom of Vykaril. Thunder Ridge: A Caldera Tale (Session 5: Boomtown) [D&D 5e] Erasmas Expeditions 2024-03-22 | Caldera is a world where a vast kingdom was rent apart by the very magic it held so dear. Hundreds of years later, the Integrated Realms is now establishing a frontier in the Caldera Territory - unearthing the buried artifacts left behind by the Durathians of so long ago. Now the use of magic is only allowed by government licenses and permits to carry arcane items - both of which are expensive and difficult to obtain by design.Prospectors dig up these ancient relics, sell them to procurers on the payroll of the Mage Barons, and then ship them back East for study and safekeeping - or so we're told.-----o-----The town of Thunder Ridge had made its mark in the lumber trade about two decades back. It's a sleepy little place nestled in the Northridge Mountains with a population somewhere northward of 400 souls all told. The railroad'd take you as far as Windy Peak, the city where the logs were collected about fifty miles downriver.Like most isolated towns in the Caldera Territory, the townsfolk like strangers about as much as they like trouble... and both usually come roped together if you ask them. But hospitality is easy enough to come by if you can make yourself useful and mind your manners.As set in their ways as a lot of things are here in the Caldera, there's always the chance that somebody might light the fuse on the next big powder keg. And when things do change out here, they change as fast and violently as a thunderbolt.-----o-----This campaign is set in my homebrew world of Caldera, a smash-up of two of my favorite genres - fantasy and western. Though it is a world of my own imagination, I took a lot of inspiration when developing this setting from the Sixth Gun comics. A Willow Weeps (D&D 5e): Session 3 Erasmas Expeditions 2024-03-11 | Welcome to The Erasmas Expeditions Presents!In this game, Dungeonmaster Baron Cantrell will introduce us to the world of the Ards, a setting of his own design. This game will be run using the 5th Edition rules for Dungeons & Dragons!----o----Overgrown Elvish Ruins of long ago litter the trees as a haunting reminder of the folly of those who came before us. Twenty years hence in the Ard River valley, a terrible war between King Alfand of the east and King Martin of the west stained the earth vermillion with blood. Returning from the conflict, the heroes of that war were given partials of land by the victorious King Alfand - with the hope his kingdom would be expanded through the clearing and cultivation of these new lands.But the wake of this war has reached much further than anyone may have first understood. Horrible famine ravaged the land and people in the aftermath of this war, forcing many to seek new beginnings in the area known as the Rotwood. Even then strange miasmic haze that clings to this place failed to deter them. However, monstrous horrors roam here that have not yet been given names... either trapped here by some curse or perhaps released by one.Our tale centers on the town of Fernwood, where the future of these lands hangs in the balance. The Protector of the Rotwood, the druid Arenthea, is at odds with the owner and lead operator of Blackthorn Brothers Logging Company, Halister Blackthorn. The previous mayor of Fernwood agreed only to cut down trees belonging to certain groves, as directed by Arenthea. Now the use of magic is only allowed by government licenses and permits to carry arcane items - both of which are expensive and difficult to obtain by design.Prospectors dig up these ancient relics, sell them to procurers on the payroll of the Mage Barons, and then ship them back East for study and safekeeping - or so we're told.-----o-----The town of Thunder Ridge had made its mark in the lumber trade about two decades back. It's a sleepy little place nestled in the Northridge Mountains with a population somewhere northward of 400 souls all told. The railroad'd take you as far as Windy Peak, the city where the logs were collected about fifty miles downriver.Like most isolated towns in the Caldera Territory, the townsfolk like strangers about as much as they like trouble... and both usually come roped together if you ask them. Under the guidance of his advisors, chiefly that of Padre Primero Borjido, the adolescent monarch works to maintain the kingdom that his ancestors sculpted Gerdes into - a land of wealth and privilege.Though Gerdes thrives peacefully upon the world stage, the success of many is built upon what happens behind the curtains.In order to navigate the waters of Gerdessi society, one must strike a careful balance between debauchery and propriety. Assassination, thievery, slander, illicit business, and trysts are often committed at night by the same hands that conduct state affairs during the day.This is simply how life is in Gerdes. Thanks to the quick thinking of Vera, she was able to whisk both herself and the pregnant woman away from the danger of the shadow and back to Alidalgo. Supposedly, the plan is to install these devices all over the lower city in order to prevent those below the Smog Line from using the powers they discovered after the arrival of the Harbinger... unless they can pay a premium that is. Believing her to be another target of a sinister plot to kidnap women who became pregnant during Amigazada, they secure passage on a ferry to allow them to reach this sprawling estate to see that she is safe.Aboard the ferry, an ominous presence causes Cimarron to confront a painful part of his past. Although our heroes managed to put distance between themselves and whatever this presence was, the trouble may not yet be entirely behind them.Meanwhile, our heroes encounter Escanada's terse husband, who coldly refuses them to see his wife, claiming that she is too ill to take guests. His corpse was left without ceremony or hope of resurrection on the underground doorstep of the Silver Sliver's den to be found by those he had led in resistance to the Saint of Rats. The party had sent their message loud and clear to the remaining wererats who had chosen to work with the coven of vampires operating here in Alidalgo.With this task done, our heroes reported back to Armand and a celebration was held - drink and merriment gave everyone the much-needed respite they so craved. And with the thorn removed from his side, the Saint of Rats has pledged his family's aid in taking on the Padre Primero when that time comes.But the list of names bearing the title of the "Shadows of Mardival" raises more than a few concerns, as it is discovered that a third person listed is also an expecting mother-to-be... who conceived during the forbidden month of Amigazada.And upon her return to the Castillo, Vera discovers the missing courier of Condesa Garbancera in her cellar. Turned into a vampire by Lavinia Strozzi no doubt, the poor man was starved and too weak to even fight back. But before he could be put out of his misery, the Justicaros arrived with another suspiciously-timed accusation of murder. Assassination, thievery, slander, illicit business, and trysts are often committed at night by the same hands that conduct state affairs during the day.This is simply how life is in Gerdes. To be Gerdessi is to always wear a mask.~~~~~~~~~~ o ~~~~~~~~~~While discussing the events of the dinner party at the Condesa's estate, it is discovered that Lavinia Strozzi will be married in a celebration that begins the Mardival celebrations here in Alidalgo. However, she is betrothed not to the Padre Primero, as the party had expected, but instead to the newly titled Vizconde Maricci Agnellassa. This certainly raises more than a few more questions.A visit with the Saint of Rats to help Guillaume get a better handle on his new condition is fruitful in more ways than one. Our heroes learn that the leader of the Silver Sliver is a rakish gnome by the name of Nicodemus Jannier. The Trickle Down: A Chrome City Trilogy (Chapter VII) [Harbinger] Erasmas Expeditions 2023-01-16 | Rumor on the street is that Lord Warden Aldemont has paid Wyrm Hole Industries a truck ton of creds to develop an Astra-suppression device. Supposedly, the plan is to install these devices all over the lower city in order to prevent those below the Smog Line from using the powers they discovered after the arrival of the Harbinger... unless they can pay a premium that is. Naturally, that premium costs more than most down here make in three years of grinding out a living, if you want to call it that.Meanwhile, for those that live Up Top, it's a drop in the bucket. So the Haves get to keep their Astra, but the Have Nots... it'll be one less thing that we have.Well, that's where your crew comes in. What followed was a hundred years of prosperity, growth, ethics, and honor.Less than fifty years after his death, the gilded shine of what Mathuran built had already begun to corrode.
