Winter Camping at -35C - easy for Tesla’s and Humans michael subasic 2023-03-26 | Winter Camping in -35C with a Tesla. Camp Arcatheos winter edition, and both Ethan and I volunteered at the camp. We faced some extreme cold sleeping outside in our tent, and the car faced the same cold. Didn’t touch the car for 4 days, and it weathered the extreme cold as expected. We had some time, so I took Samantha and Melissa to Emerald Lake to show them where their mom and I spent the weekend before. We did just the lake loop hike, which was incredible, and the awesome thing was the Tesla had plenty of range to get us there and back. I surprised her with a hike of Sulphur Mountain in Banff. A hard level hike, that is even harder in the snow and ice… but we survived, enjoyed the gondola on the way down, and hit the hot springs before heading out to our room at Emerald Lake. One of Tammy’s favorite places. The Tesla was happy too as we got to charge to full during the hike and Hot Pool, so we had plenty of range in the battery to leave the car parked for a few days. I got to use the High Speed Charger at the Petro Canada station. One out of two charging spots were working. So out of four available charging options, only one could be used. I only wished it was a little bigger so I could stuff my iPad PRO 11” in there. Well Bellroy found a way to take more of my money and came out with the Bellroy Venture Sling 9L bag. I’m figuring out better ways to stay warm. The second meal today, I cooked from the passenger seat. Worked out nicely, and the snowboarding was pretty awesome too. It was cold though, at -17C, the wind bites hard, but we got our runs in, and the car warmed up quickly. Apple’s Bendy MacBook PRO - actually it’s mine, but you get the idea… michael subasic 2021-12-03 | I’ve had this awesome laptop for 3.5 years, and still love it, except for the one little flaw…. It seems to have bent itself out of shape as the battery swelled inside the case. No issues other than that. Nissan claims it’s because 2G is gone, and they don’t support 3G here in Canada, even though it exists and works fine. Long story short, our Leaf is off grid from a connectivity perspective. Nissan Leaf 9.5 year review michael subasic 2021-11-23 | Well that 9.5 years went by quickly!!! It’s hard to believe that we bought our Leaf almost 10 years ago. And what began as an experiment turned into quite an adventure. We’ve driven a lot in our Leaf, and it’s served us well. So well, that we’re still driving it, and it is still running strong. The battery has seen roughly 25% degradation, but it still gets us everywhere we need to be (locally in our city). And of course we would recommend the Leaf to anyone thinking of buying one.
