A giant black hole at a critical stage in the very early Universe has been discovered.

NASA’s Chandra and Webb telescopes were both needed to identify this distant object.

How and when supermassive black holes formed after the Big Bang is an open question.

This result shows that some early giant black hole formed from massive clouds of gas.
