Chateauguay River Ice Breaking Operation - March 17th, 2021 MysticMTL 2021-03-17 | La "Grenouille" or the "frog" makes it appearance again this year on the Chateauguay River to help break up the ice before it floods nearby residences. This modified boat contains a shovel, balance pontoons, steel anchor beams, diesel engines and reinforced hull to help crush and move the ice along the river. This year the water levels were much lower than normal, so risk of flooding was minimal, but it's best not to take any chances when the situation can change with one rainfall. Montreal Metro - Riding on the Green Line Aboard the Azur (with Trouble on the Yellow Line) MysticMTL 2020-05-05 | Taking a ride home on the Montreal Metro aboard an Azur train on the Green Line with few people onboard at this time of night, but something was happening on the Yellow Line with constant announcements being broadcast throughout the entire ride. Usually I try and ride the older rolling stock, but this was later at night an departures were quite far apart, and I wasn't sure when the next MR-73 was due. It was a pretty smooth ride, however, and it was interesting to look down the entire train from the first car with almost nobody aboard. Note: I filmed this before the confinement. At the time of the upload, it's not recommended you travel anywhere, unless absolutely necessary.

Chateauguay River Ice Breaking Operation - March 11th, 2020 MysticMTL 2020-03-11 | Spring will be here soon, and to many it also means the time when water levels will climb and occasionally cause flooding. For the last several years the city of Chateauguay has taken the preemptive approach and began to break up the ice early before it caused a dam of ice on the water which could overflow. Here is one of the boats hard at work breaking up the ice and helping to send it down the river. Another piece of equipment that they also use is called "The Frog", which has several shovel extensions floating on a barge of sorts. It was not being used at this time though. When I do see it in action I will be sure to capture a video of it as well.Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy this video!

A TransitFan Minute: Bob Rides a Sketchy Elevator MysticMTL 2019-10-23 | On our way to a transit museum shop, our group needed to take an elevator to the 9th floor of this building. Unfortunately the elevators were acting up and it took several minutes to get one of the 3 elevators to pick us up on the main floor after it kept going down the basement every time we pushed the button. On our way up it stopped on the 2nd floor for some reason, and then creaked and shook its way up to the 9th floor where it failed to level properly and I almost tripped on my way out. Our elevator operator today, Bob, is famous for his commentary in previous "TransitFan Minute" videos once again takes the helm and gives his two cents in regards to our ride to the 9th floor. Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom Ferryboat Ride - Richard F. Irvine MysticMTL 2019-07-24 | Join us on this journey across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom aboard the Richard F. Irvine ferryboat. We also met up with another ferryboat returning to the TTC (Ticket and Transportation Center).The Monorail to the Magic Kingdom was not working at the time, so we were directed towards the ferryboats. Emergency Vehicles: Units 320 & 420 Responding in Chateauguay, QC MysticMTL 2019-07-17 | While taking an evening walk I was passing the caserne and arrived at just the right moment to see a fire response call. Starting with chief unit #120 a 2014 Ford Explorer, followed shortly after by units #320 a 1997 Thibault Tibotrac Pumper and #420 a 2003 Pierce Dash Quint Ladder truck.Side note: There is a traffic light that gives fire trucks priority so they can enter the main boulevard, however some people didn't react fast enough and almost cut off the chief, and cyclist passed in front as the trucks were ready to leave.

A few people were caught off guard as the rain started to accumulate and cross over the sidewalk. As soon as it began, the rain subsided and the sky cleared again.

Overnight Fire in Chateauguay, QC (September 28, 2018) MysticMTL 2018-09-30 | Fire in Chateauguay, Quebec. 187 Boul. d'Anjou. Marché El Recuerdo appears to be heavily damaged. Lighter damage to the Nail Salon, roof was ripped apart all the way to the Tattoo parlour, and it seems Canada Drive-in restaurant came out of this unscathed. About 30 or so firefighters were on seen from 2:30 until after 4am when the fire was out. Lots of police around the area, and lots of people leaving the bars were walking around the scene of the fire as well.Incendie à Châteauguay, Québec. 187 Boul. d'Anjou. Le marché El Recuerdo semble être lourdement endommagé. Plus légers dommages au salon de manucure, le toit a été déchiré tout le long jusqu'au salon de tatouage, et il semble que restaurant Canada Drive-in en soit sorti indemne. Environ 30 pompiers ont été present de 2h30 à 4h du matin lorsque le feu a été éteint. Beaucoup de policiers et de nombreuses personnes qui quittaient les bars marchaient autour du feu.

Atari Crowdfunding for new RollerCoaster Tycoon Game MysticMTL 2018-01-25 | Atari has just announced that they have plans on releasing another version of RollerCoaster Tycoon, this time for the Nintendo Switch. And they need your help. A new Crowdfunding page was started asking for your hard earned money, in the neighborhood of $2 Million, to publish this game. After the negative response of Atari's previous attempt with RollerCoaster Tycoon World, I'm also surprised that they are inviting the company Nvizzio back to the helm to create this game. Started with flashing red on all four corners, then went yellow and cars began pulling out all at the same time, then switched back to flashing and finally to the regular sequence, but some motorists remained confused from the ordeal.
The Pineglen - Canada Steamship Lines - Bulk Carrier - Near Montreal MysticMTL 2018-01-19 | While I was taking a walk on the island of "ile St-Bernard" just south of Montreal, in Chateauguay, Quebec. I saw this Canada Steamship Lines bulk carrier pass through along the St-Lawrence heading towards Montreal.Here are a few details about this particular ship from the wiki:Pineglen is a bulk carrier owned and operated by Canada Steamship Lines. She was built at the Collingwood Shipyards, in Collingwood, Ontario in 1985, to a single superstructure lake freighter design. Initially named Paterson, the vessel was sold to Canada Steamship Lines in 2002 and renamed to Pineglen. Unlike more modern lake freighters she was built to a "straight-deck" design – i.e. she was not equipped with a self-unloading The Pineglen usually carries Grain and Iron Ore.Pineglen is a bulk carrier that is 20,370 gross register tons (GRT) and 32,713 long tons deadweight (DWT). World of Disney - One Final Visit Before Redesign - Disney Springs (Orlando, Florida) MysticMTL 2018-01-18 | The Walt Disney Company has announced they will be redesigning the "World of Disney" Store located at Disney Springs in Orlando Florida. Here are some photos I took at this store in it's original form, before they began making all of these planned changes. I just hope the renovations don't ruin the magic that this place currently has. Chasing the Fire Truck - 1959 Ford Thibault Detroit Diesel Ladder #417 from Beauharnois, QC MysticMTL 2018-01-04 | After seeing this truck in our local Christmas parade, I decided to run to the end of the line, and followed the truck through the parking lot and onto the main road. I tried my best to share the sounds and vibrations that this truck made, and sadly I couldn't send over the diesel smells that went along with it. This 1959 Ford C Series Thibault (now Nova Quintech) with Detroit Diesel straight pipe was one of those amazing experiences. Such a great looking and sounding truck. Going on 60 years and still in active service. The town of Beauharnois, and it's fire department have kept this truck running and looking it's best, and I hope they keep it for many years to come. Montreal Metro: All 3 Models on the Green Line MR-63 / MR-73 / MPM-10 MysticMTL 2017-12-06 | During my ride in the early evening just as rush hour was winding down, I rode aboard an MR-63 model, and when I got off the train at my destination, St-Laurent station, a few seconds later a brand new MPM-10 "Azur" train pulled in the opposite platform, and waited for the clear signal, at the same time an MR-73 train pulled in 2 minutes after my train. So I got to see all 3 models of trains operating in Montreal on the same line at the same station in the span of about 5 minutes. Hope you enjoy the video, and stay tuned for the next!

Montreal Panoramic - Bonaventure Park - September 2017 MysticMTL 2017-09-20 | Montreal Panoramic - Bonaventure Park - September 2017The Bonaventure Expressway opened just prior to Expo '67 in April of 1967. 40 years later, this portion was taken down and replaced with an urban boulevard, and a large park space in the middle.Several works of art along with playground equipment are displayed here, along with a set of stairs that let you observe the new surroundings and offer an exceptional view for transit enthusiasts who enjoy bus and train watching.It's also a little bittersweet seeing the old with the new. There was so much history in Griffintown, and about 90% of the area has been transformed into new condo housing and multi-national chain stores and restaurants. There is still a portion of the local charm that remains, such as New City Gas, reportedly was the oldest Power Plant in North America, which is frequently threatened by new developments, including a new light rail train line that wanted to bulldoze its way through.I hope you enjoy this short panoramic video that I filmed during early rush hour one afternoon.
