Getting into photo or video can be daunting as you start to tally up the cost of Cameras, Lenses, Accessories, computing, and everything else you might need to get up and started, and with the current economical situation, I think most people are looking to get as much for their money as possible. I genuinely think that Lumix delivers the best value for money proposition in today's camera market, and that remains throughout their lineup of Mirrorless Cameras and compatible L-Mount lenses. I was an early adopter of the L-Mount, and in just three years, I have seen this system become one of the most viable camera systems to invest in, both for quality and price point. The Sigma 16-28 stands to be the only lens of its type for the L-Mount, and is the only constant F2.8 wide angle zoom with AF that we have in this ecosystem. This in of itself makes the lens pretty untouchable, and I would say that it's almost perfect. I put the Sigma 16-28 F2.8 to the test with my Lumix S5II and my Lumix S5IIX, shooting both video and stills, and it's 90% there with just a few little teething issues.

This new lens from Sirui is absolutely superb and is easily my favourite anamorphic lens that i've tested so far. The Sirui 35mm T2.9 Carbon Fibre Anamorphic lens has a 1.6x squeeze ratio, meaning that your horiztonal FOV becomes 22mm. It's super small, super lightweight and very easy to use with the Lumix Full Frame lineup of cameras. It gives such a cinematic shooting experience that most people fall in love with instantly. I've shot with a few anamorphic lenses now on my Lumix S5 and S5ii, and there's a particular lens I'd definitely recommend as the best one to get started with if you're just getting into anamorphic. The world of anamorphic shooting gets very expensive very quickly, so it's great to see brands like Sirui really pushing for more affordable options in this space. Most people on YouTube have tried and raved about the Sirui 50mm T2.9 Full Frame anamorphic lens, and I absolutely love it as well, but I think this lens (the Sirui 35mm F1.8 S35) would be the one I'd personally opt for out of the two. There's still so many pluses to shooting S35 for anamorphic video, and those pro's definitely outweigh the cons for me.

Camera companies ultimately have to listen to the consumers when they begin producing their next camera because of course, they want it to sell. Photography has got to a point now where it's sort of plateaued in terms of what technology can do, and you can get amazing results from DSLR's made years ago. Video on the other hand is improving at lightning speed now, and since social media is so hot on video content, it means that the demand for video production has gone up drastically.

The AF system does indeed go back to contrast detect autofocus when you shoot in framerates of 50fps and higher in Full HD (1080p). I've had a lot of people reach out to me asking if this was the case, and while I haven't seen any official spec sheets to state that this is the case, I decided to test it for myself and it is evident that you lose PDAF in 1080p when shooting at 50fps and higher. For me, this isn't a big deal at all since I never shoot in FHD, like, ever. But for those out there who wanted to utilise the higher frame rates and get the full sensor readout in 50fps then this could be a stopping block for you. The issue is, not many people are doing larger scale productions, and the reality is that most of us are solo shooters and are making short and snappy content for online distribution. So, I wanted to compare the footage from the Panasonic S 35mm F1.8 Prime lens to the footage from the Irix 30mm T1.5 cine lens to see whether you could actually tell the difference.I was so impressed with how well the Lumix 35mm F1.8 performed with the Panasonic S5ii, and to be completely honest with you, I couldn't tell too much of a difference at all.

This lens is designed specifically for mirrorless cameras, and is available for the L-Mount and E-Mount. We already have the Panasonic S 50mm F1.8 and the Panasonic S Pro 50mm F1.4, so this lens fits nicely between them both as the midrange offering. The AF with this lens works great with the Lumix S5ii, and their new AF motor technology makes the performance even better on the Lumix S5 as well. I've used both cameras extensively, and while I do think that the upgrade is worthwhile in general terms, I think it's important to ask yourself whether the Lumix S5ii will give you more value for money. The current deals on the Lumix S5 are incredible, and you can easily pick up the body with a lens or two for under £1500. With the Lumix S5, you're getting a full frame camera with incredible dynamic range, RAW output via HDMI and amazing ergonomics, so it's a no brainer. There are some upsides to the Panasonic Lumix S5ii of course, but it's whether those upgrades are going to be beneficial for you and your workflow. Thanks for watching!

Definitely something to make a point of, and hopefully this will be resolved by Panasonic and Sigma as quickly as possible!

I was actually shocked at how good these results were, and now I would definitely say that I would be very comfortable using EF glass with my Lumix S5ii, ,even if I needed reliable AF. There are some caveats of course, nothing is perfect, but it's definitely a cool feature that I think is going to be very useful for my workflow when I need to get edits out quicker. I've been using the Lumix S1 as my Handheld camera for over a year now, and in that time i've slowly been improving the ergonomics and features of my handheld so it better suits my workflow. The Lumix S1 is an incredibly capable camera that you can now get for less than £1000 on the used market, and with the upgrade key you're able to shoot 6K RAW video externally as well as internal 6K Open Gate video, which is nuts! This body also has really impressive IBIS, so rigging it up makes the whole handheld experience very enjoyable. It doesn't matter what mirrorless camera you own, you can make an excellent cine rig as long as you prioritise ergonomics and usability above everything else. This rig has taken me around a year to complete and to perfect, so please don't expect to run out and buy this all at once; building your rig is an evolutionary thing and you'll learn what you like and don't like as time moves forward with it. However, the biggest issue is that there's no wide angle or standard wide lens in that set - they only have the 35mm T2.0 , 50mm T2.0 and 85mm T2.0, meaning there's a big gap on the wider end. Well, recently they released the 12mm t2.9, and although it's an APS-C lens, the equivalent field of view is around 18mm, so is usable and very nice to have in this setup. There's a few drawbacks to this lens, but it's so cheap that to be honest, those drawbacks don't matter too much. I would still love for 7Artisans to come out with a 24mm T2.0 lens in their full frame lineup to compliment the rest of their L-Mount cine set, so we'll have to wait and see if that ever comes. I've looked at various different bodycam systems, like the EasyRig and Arri's steadicam rigs too (although they're way too expensive!). And after doing a bit of research, I found the Digital Foto Thanos SE camera vest mounting system. It's super simple, just an adjustable vest with a supporting hydraulic arm for your camera setup, and it works really well. It essentially redistributes the weight from your arms and back to your hips and legs, meaning that there's less fatigue on your body in a short space of time. My S1 handheld rig is very heavy, and so is the gimbal setup I choose to use with my Panasonic S5, so this is an absolute godsend on those longer shoot days. If you do a lot of long shoot days with big camera rigs, or have noticed that your back is aching after a while, then definitely check this system out as it could help you a tonne!

We don't know whether the next camera will be an S1Hmii or an S5H or even an S5ii. Panasonic are pretty good at keeping their cards close to their chest and not much has been said about the next body. I made this video purely to get the conversation started around what people expect to see in the successor to the Panasonic Lumix S5/S1/S1H. Of course, I know that all of the things spoken about in this video probably won't be added to the next camera, however it's always fun to speculate and if the camera I describe in this video does actually come out then I would be buying 5. Here's a rundown of what I'd like to see in the successor to the Panasonic S5: - A better EVF- Similar flippy screen to the Lumix GH6 and Lumix S1H- Full Size HDMI Port- USB-C SSD support- 4K 120p in APS-C mode (only 10bit 4:2:0)- More control over audio preamps- No crop in 4K 50/60p - Hybrid AF system that utilises both Contrast Detect and Phase Detect AFI know this is definitely a lot to ask for in the next S-Series camera, but even if we got 30% of that list I'd be super happy since the Lumix S is already an incredible camera. So, I took the Panasonic Lumix S5 with the Panasonic 70-300 to capture as much wildlife as possible, and this combo is incredibly lightweight and extremely versatile for wildlife photography. The Panasonic 70-300 stands to be one of the best bang-for-buck L-Mount lenses out there in my opinion, and the image quality coupled with the lightweight design and form factor makes it the dream telephoto lens for travel. If you are into sports photography, wildlife photography, nature photography, or anything where getting up close and personal is a must, then i'd highly recommend the Panasonic 70-300 and it would definitely be my first choice of all the telephoto lenses available for the L-Mount. I scripted a whole video around the idea of using the 4:3 mode to shoot vertical video, but after running a few tests in my office, I realised that shooting in 16x9 on the S5 actually gives you better results. People normally assume that the anamorphic 4:3 mode on the Panasonic Lumix S5, S1 and S1H are like an 'Open Gate' setting, and I thought the same thing - but it turns out that you're not using the full sensor when you switch to that 4:3 mode, and the crop is actually heavier for vertical video than it is when you use the normal 16x9 recording options. I've even tried switching to Pixel by Pixel readout, and as you'll be able to see, the full sensor readout option is disabled once you switch to the anamorphic mode on both the Lumix S5 and Lumix S1. If I'm doing something wrong here guys then please let me know, but after testing this time and time again, I definitely saw better results shooting in 16x9. Thanks for watching!

It's also one of the biggest reasons why I stuck with the iPhone XS Max for a long time, simply because the camera improvements weren't enough for me to justify getting. a newer one, but that was until the iPhone 14 Pro was announced. There's already a bunch of videos out there on the specs of the iPhone 14 Pro, but in this video I just wanted to show you exactly what sort of results you can get from this phone. I think the new camera is absolutely amazing and is by far the best smartphone camera i've ever seen for stills. In this video I show a bunch of real world photo examples taken with the iPhone 14 Pro, shot in RAW and edited in Lightroom. A lot of reviews out there don't show enough of what the camera is capable of, and I think that this video does a better job in really showing how much the iPhone 14 Pro shines for photography. The ability to shoot raw photos with up to 48mp of resolution on a phone in incredible, and the natural depth of field and computational processing makes the iPhone 14 Pro a powerhouse of a camera in your pocket. You've probably heard people say "the best camera is the one you have with you" - I've heard this a bunch of times and it is very true for the most part. The great thing about having the iPhone 14 Pro is that I have such a powerful tool with me wherever I go, and taking this phone with me to South Africa was truly amazing. I think that the iPhone 14 Pro is definitely a worthy upgrade for anyone if they like to shoot photos, and I think that even pro photographers will agree with me that it's an exceptional camera to have in your pocket at all times. The sharpness and build quality on the 35mm T2.0 are insane for the price, and I really wanted to see whether the 7Artisans 50mm T2.0 and 85mm T2.0 were of the same quality. Luckily 7Artisans were very kind to send out the full cine lens lineup in the spectrum series, and I've had a few weeks to play around with them. Both the 50mm T2.0 and the 85mm T2.0 are built extremely well just like the 35mm T2.0, and the sharpness and quality is just as good as the 35mm as well. I genuinely think that the 7Artisans Spectrum Cine Primes are the best bang for the buck currently for the L-Mount in terms of budget cine lenses, and they have become a staple in my lens collection for my corporate shoots. I would highly recommend all three lenses if you're an L-Mount shooter and shoot a lot of video with your Panasonic Lumix S5, S1 or S1H. This lens is available for the L-Mount, so that's great news for the fellow Panasonic S5, S1 and S1H users out there. Macro photography and videography is something that doesn't really get explored by everyone, and some either use it all the time while others miss it completely. I actually think that the new Laowa 58mm F2.8 2X Macro would be a great entry point into the world of macro since 58mm is a generous focal length that is still very versatile for portraiture and other types of content. The Laowa 58mm F2.8 2X macro will cost around $499 USD, so price wise I think it's pretty reasonable. This lens has become my go to for product shots in my office and for anything where i'd like to capture as much detail as possible. You can focus super close with this lens, so capturing the details that are not visible to the human eye is always really fun. Definitely a lens to consider for your kit, the Laowa 58mm F2.8 2X Macro is super sharp, and very well built just like every other lens they offer. To make things interesting, we added a stimulus for the other person to find and include in each location, and if they failed, they’d lose the round and whoever lost the most would buy dinner.I absolutely love the Lumix S Series primes since they’re lightweight and super sharp at a very good price point.I’ve had the privilege of using all of the primes before, and it’s specifically the Panasonic 24mm F1.8 and 18mm F1.8 that stood out to me the most. I work from home all of the time since I run my own business and don't have another office to work from, so I probably spend 80% of my time just in this room, and after spending a bit of money on making it the best use of space I could imagine up, I'm very happy with the results. Office tour videos are probably some of my favourite ones to come around each year form my favourite creators. They always show new ways of doing things that can help to minimise clutter, and to create a more productive workspace. I'm very fortunate to have quite a large office space to use for editing, shooting YouTube videos and storing all of my video gear. It's a privilege, and I definitely don't take it for granted! In this video I talk about all of the furniture I have in the office, as well as the different cameras and lights I use to film my YouTube videos. The new Panasonic Lumix S 18mm F1.8 has arrived, and it's even better than I was expecting. The fifth and final lens to join the family of compact 1.8 primes from Panasonic for the L-Mount. Of course, we knew that the Lumix 18mm F1.8 was coming for a while, and it's taken some time to get here but it was definitely worth the wait. This lens is superb - it's sharp, lightweight and priced very reasonably as well in my opinion for the quality you're getting. If you have been lookign for a very decent ultra wide lens for your L-Mount camera, then this may be your best option so far. At only £800, it's almost half the price of the Panasonic S Pro 16-35 F4, and stops all the way down to F1.8, making it a far better option for lowlight shooting. The Lumix BS1H is a pretty cool camera with excellent image quality and amazing features, but one weird quirk happens when you try to record ProRes RAW or Black Magic RAW, and I really hope that Panasonic can change this with a firmware update. I really enjoy using this camera either way - it's a brilliant tool for many different applications and really shows how versatile the box form factor can be.

Since there's not much out there on the editing workflow with ProRes RAW, I thought i'd make a video going through the process of both shooting and editing ProRes RAW when using the Panasonic S5, or any other Lumix Full Frame Body.I also wanted to include some ProRes RAW footage that was shot with the Panasonic S5 so you guys could see the sort of quality it gives you, since I know that RAW video with the Lumix S5 is a bit of a 'give or take' for some people. Although I have already compared the internal codecs of the Lumix S5 to the ProRes RAW footage, I still do think that despite the larger file sizes, there's definitely a massive plus to shooting RAW when it makes a difference. ProRes RAW is very easy to edit in Final Cut Pro X, however sometimes it can be confusing whether to use an SDR or HDR workflow. Of course, most of the time it'd be wise to use SDR since scree technology is still within the realms of SDR, although more and more phones and monitors are becoming HDR compatible. I will be making a video on HDR workflow with ProRes RAW in the future, so if you're interested in that then keep an eye out!

It's super small, making it perfect for travelling with, and the colour accuracy is also very good. For under £150, you can have a fully-metal construction keylight that comes complete with a travel case and two USB-C brick chargers, and I think that's a great deal.
