Dead Man is the movie that made me fall in love with movies.I think I was 14 or 15 when I stumbled on it playing on IFC one night and just fell in love. The music. The look. If you haven't seen it, I implore you to seek it out (though I believe it's a little tricky to find).My first time seeing this, I was lucky enough to see it in the theater. It happened to be the last movie I saw in the theater before Covid did its thing and shut everything down.But. If that was going to be my last cinema experience, it could not have been more powerful. I've never been moved by a film like this. I started to have shortness of breath watching this and my vision got cloudy. It is an elemental piece of cinema that captures such a specific feeling of the loss of self in a world that is too damn big. In my opinion, Paris, Texas is the Great American Movie. It just so happens to be directed by a German guy. Which makes sense. We're a nation of outsiders and immigrants (most of us), so the perfect vision of what America is, is perfectly captured by an outsider.

If home invasion and cruelty are not your thing, do not watch the movie.I don't necessarily seek out films like this, but after hearing about it for a while, I gave it a shot. It's excellent. I think it's hard to pull off something as simple and plotless as 'bad guy invades a home' and make it compelling beyond just basking in slash and violence, but it succeeds. imo.

It's been a minute, but I think this turned out okay. I might be a little rusty. The version I used to make this was from a bizarre unreleased fan "directors cut". It's pretty fascinating. In that version the Skeksi language is completely undecipherable (I did grab the 'I am still emperor' quote though from the normal version). It's cool.Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Second of all: I take back my apology. The discourse around Salo is very strange to me. This movie has become almost a dare. Or, weirdly, a meme? It shouldn't be, though. It's not a faces of death, or a serbian film, or whatever else. It's powerful. It disgusts and upsets and terrorizes the viewer with the mundanity of the evil portrayed. It's a bummer! It is certainly not a pleasant watch (pretty sure that wasn't the intent) but nor is it devoid of artistry. And, god, if ever a film achieved its goal it has to be this one, right? Movies aren't obligated to provide enjoyment. Sometimes they eviscerate you.

Full disclosure, I like this movie, but my favorite movie of 1974 is Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. But! 1971 - Escape From the Planet of the Apes Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-09-06 | Music by @nicholasavraamides The songs: Something's Not Right Here and 80s Movie IntroI've returned! This time...with apes! I was lucky enough to see every single Apes movie (except that one) in the theatre a few years ago for a special Ape marathon thing. At that point I had only seen the Original '68 one and the first of the new trilogy (which I think is pretty good!)This one, though, 'Escape', ended up being my favorite of the bunch (I think this is a banana joke). It's fun, it's weird, and just like the entire series, it's underappreciated. Enjoy!
1970 - The Bird With the Crystal Plumage Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-08-17 | This was one of those trailers where I just stared at my computer for a while not knowing what to do when, suddenly, I knew what to do! I hope you enjoy. This is one of my more barebones trailers, I think, but it turned out pretty well for tossing it together in about an hour. Also, never expected to have two Tony Musante-led films within a few weeks of eachother. He's great!
1969 - The Cremator Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-08-01 | Shout out to @DMEdit for doing this movie first. He's beaten me to a couple of trailers I was going to do...but I couldn't pass this one up! The Cremator is an absolute masterpiece that really seems to be having a bit of a moment right now. And it is well deserved, it's really unlike anything I've seen before. It's Weird and uncomfortable and immensely entertaining. I think my regret with this trailer is not being able to show how fascinating the filmmaking is, the editing especially. It's hard to describe, but if you watch it you'll understand. 1968 - Hour of the Wolf Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-07-26 | The thing about making trailers for Bergman movies, is that it is really fun. Although, maybe I just got lucky with picking Persona and this one, because I guess you could argue that they're a couple of his more esoteric movies. That makes it easier/more freeing for me, because I can just focus on cool imagery and *vibes* instead of also trying to get a bit of plot in there. Which I don't really like to do in the first place and typically try to work around, if that makes sense. For example, I imagine a trailer for Wild Strawberries or The Virgin Spring might be a bit more tough than say Through a Glass Darkly. I don't know, though, who knows? Just an assumption. 1967 - The Incident Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-07-19 | A wonderful and horrifying movie about the worst people and our complete inability to do anything to confront them. I feel like I've been on a bit of a hot streak with my trailers. I've been really happy with how they've turned out...this one, I'm not so sure. I thought it was going to be a slam dunk, but I don't know if I quite captured what I was trying to accomplish. Anyways, I hope you like it!
1966 - Persona Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-07-11 | Persona is something special. I'm really not really going to embarrass myself by talking about this movie other than to say it is one of the greats and absolutely lends itself to great trailer-making. It's full of incredible imagery and poetry and it's not the kind of film where I really care to tell you what it's about. Who cares about plot? This was the first time I had sounds and music arranged before I cut the trailer together. Typically, I get a rough cut of how I want the trailer to be structured, I find music, and then adjust everything to work together. Arranging the audio and crafting the trailer around that seemed like the right way to go this time. Not sure why, but I think it worked! Anywho, enjoy! 1965 - Pierrot le Fou Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-07-05 | I thought making a trailer for a Godard film was going to be challenging, but it was not! Because while his movies have a reputation of being subversive and intimidating to some, their core is often fairly straightforward. What did he say about making movies? All you need is a girl and a gun. That's essentially this movie boiled down to it a simplest form, right? Basically, that's all to say that it's easier to make a trailer when there is something to latch on to. Obviously with this movie, it's their relationship. Anywho, hope you enjoy!
1964 - The Umbrellas of Cherbourg trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-06-28 | This is the peak of the art. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is bonkers and glorious. How does this work? How does a, not musical, but opera(?) translate onto film so beautifully? I don't know, but it does. I mean, I guess it's the gorgeous Michel Legrand music; The Jacques Demy-led production; the staging, the colors...my god the colors. And then there's The elemental Catherine Deneuve and Nino Castelnuovo whose relationship is the most-felt one I've ever experienced in a movie. It's just such a specific type of heartbreak and longing that I think, whether or not we've actually experienced it, we all can feel. I just love this movie. This is one of those that I would blast of into space to preserve forever and to show the aliens what humanity is capable of. As far as this trailer. It's alright. I actually made one for this movie over a year ago, before I started doing this project for real. Ie was either the second or third one that I did, and looking back on it, it was kind of bad. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this one. I definitely wanted to do something different with it, and I think I sort of succeeded.Enjoy!

The great thing (one of many, I guess) about Samuel Fuller movies is that he kinda deals in this space between schlock and highart. I find him very unpretentious and extremely willing to explore grimy and harsh details of life with the respect of a deft artists' touch. This kind of movie could be VERY BAD, but I think Fuller and his crew, not least of all is Stanley Cortez who shot, among other things, Night of the Hunter and The Magnificent Ambersons, respected the content (though there might be some questionable moments in hindsight) enough to make an extremely important and well-crafted work. The trailer itself was very fun to make, with maybe my finest opening!Enjoy!

Kobayashi may not have the sheer volume of classics like his fellow countrymen Kurosawa and Ozu, but when he makes a banger? Fricken look out. What's there to say about this movie? It's incredible. It's beautiful to look at, it's structure is out of this world, the performances? *chef's kiss*It's just one of those elemental masterpieces. I love it so much. As far as straight up samurai movies go, this has to be tied with Seven Samurai as my favorite. It's just so watchable and exciting. I think if you were to try to get someone interested in classic Japanese cinema, this is where you should start. Making the trailer was tricky. Mostly due to the fact that I wanted to be put half of the movie into the trailer. There's so many shots that I wanted, and so much story that I wanted to shove in. But. brevity. I have a bit of a concern that it's a bit spoilery? But I think only with the context having seen the whole movie...which I guess wouldn't be spoliery? Who cares! Enjoy! I'm proud of this one!

I think Yojimbo is a very good movie. Probably not in my top tier for Kurosawa, but a very good and fun movie. But, c'mon, this is the one I had to make. I think I'm getting alright at making these! I think I'm starting to develop more of a personal style and rhythm. Did I get the plot of the movie across? No, not really. Maybe a teeny bit, but with trailers, I don't think you necessarily have to. Just as long as it piques someone's interest...that's the goal!

Some trailers really just cut themselves. I found a great song by Kyle Preston called Broken Photosynthesis, and I knew exactly how I was going to put this together when I heard it. The one tricky thing about this one, was that I didn't want to blow all of the insane imagery. Which I didn't do..but I could have. This was absolutely one of those *vibe trailers*. You know, the ones where you're trying to get across a distillation of the feeling of the movie rather than distillation of the plot of the movie. And I'm really happy with this one, in my opinion this is one of my better trailers. I hope you agree!
1959 - Good Morning Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-05-11 | Ozu is my guy. He's the answer to who's my favorite director. And his movies are so completely different compared to the kinds of films I usually consider my favorites.They're so formal and...calm? And the subject matter? Boring. At least in different hands. I mean, I don't care about daughters and sons getting wed and growing farther from their families. Wait, I totally do. Ozu makes me care SO MUCH. But everything is so meticulous and expertly crafted and told so gently and beautifully that when I watch his movies I feel like I'm just drifting through something magical. I dunno. I love him. This movie is funny as hell, too. The trailer for this, once I started making it, was so fun. The approach was very hard, though. How do you make a trailer for Ozu? Especially this one. This movie is so densely packed. There is so much going on that I had no idea how to tackle it. But, the logical thing seemed to focus on the boys and their quest for a TV. That's the hook here. I don't know how you'll feel, but I actually think this is my favorite trailer I've made. So I hope you enjoy!
1958 - A Night to Remember Trailers Through Time 2022-04-25 | If you're looking for an editor, visit me at:www.blachbuster.comA wonderful movie and strangely unsung, I believe. It's a fascinating watch in conjunction with that other movie you might have heard about. (I unashamedly love Titanic) And a fun trailer to make! I really like this musical piece by Stephen Heller and felt like it would be good accompaniment for this trailer. Often I'll ignore music when I'm making a trailer. Sometimes it seems like a crutch, but I kinda want to make more of a *vibe* trailer this go around. While there are interesting and personal narratives in A Night to Remember, I felt like the best way to make one interested in this movie was to accentuate the chaos and fear of being on a sinking ship.I hope you enjoy!
1957 - 12 Angry Men Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-04-12 | I feel like I've been saying this a lot lately, but this might be my favorite movie. At the very least, I think it's the most watchable movie for me. I believe Sidney Lumet made many great movies and many near-masterpieces, but 12 Angry Men (his first feature!) is just on another level. It is, in my opinion, the go-to example of what good directing is. It's a height that I don't think he ever reached again, though many people would disagree with me on that thought. I've always held this weird comparison in my head of Orson Welles and Sidney Lumet. They both made, arguably, the two greatest American-produced films of their generations out of the gate. But one became a prolific, successful, brilliant company man and the other...well, he was brilliant! But, again, my opinion, they never struck gold like they did the first time. Now listen. Lumet still is one of my favorite filmmakers. Running on Empty, The Pawnbroker, Failsafe, Dog Day, Serpico: brilliant, but...they're not the greatest film ever made. And you only get to have one of those. And, as for the trailer... typically, I feel like I just can't do it justice, but I hope you enjoy it!

This is a great movie and I think a fairly undersung one.
1955 - All That Heaven Allows Trailer Trailers Through Time 2022-03-22 | If you're looking for an editor, visit me at:tylerblach.comThe perfect melodrama. Of all the films I've made trailers for, this is the one I've seen the most recent. I'm a big fan of Ranier Werner Fassbinder and, specifically, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, so it was only a matter of time until I saw All that Heaven Allows. And I loved it. They're such similar films yet at the same time are a shadow of one another. There's a gorgeous dreamlike quality to the romance depicted in ATHA compared to the more realistic and cold, while still loving, relationship in Ali: FEtS.I don't know...if you ask which one I prefer, I'd probably give you a different answer depending on the mood I'm in. Can you guess what film I'll be doing for 1974? Anyways, a fun trailer to make! This one came about a bit easier than the last few I've done. Found something to build around and then, well, built. Very satisfying and I hope you enjoy!
