It was a lot of fun, but Clive didn’t think Stephan could sing, which he took as a bit of, “Well, I’ll show that guy.” It was in some room at some rehearsal space, and Jeff Buckley was there too and he came in and sat down to listen."

"They took us across the street to a wine bar. They said, “Well, ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ we gotta say no to, ’cause it’s just too much. We just don’t do anything with ‘Stairway to Heaven.'” We’re like, “Whomp, whomp, whomp.” And Page goes, “But I would like to give you an extra song that’s more of an acoustic busking vibe. We’ll give that to you free.” He replaced “Stairway to Heaven” with “Bron-Yr-Aur.” He gave that to us for free, just to have that texture in the movie, which was amazing. And we ran through the streets afterward. The rest of that meeting was spent talking about how much we all loved Jeff Buckley. Officially the coolest night ever, or the un-coolest night ever. I don’t know. That was a huge kind of buoy to swim to, because without Led Zeppelin, it’s just not the same movie."

Note: Unfortunately, the videographer, for reasons unknown, decided that it was a good idea to incorporate an array of cheesy, distorted, special effects that were common features on camcorders of that era. Sadly, this poor decision ruined virtually the entire performance, from a visual perspective. Thankfully, there are some clear shots, in the intro, and briefly in other areas, but the rest looks as though we are watching the performance through the eyes of the alien in Predator (1987).

I don't think there is adequate language to describe what is going on in this video, and a new entry might be needed for dictionaries, the world over. The best way that I can describe it is: a visual Rampage Supernova in disguise. I've seen clearer footage of Bigfoot. Jeff's face, during Mojo Pin, looks like he was sporting some organic peanut butter exfoliating mask.

It's terribly sad that nothing can be done to undo this poorly conceived idea and result; it ruins what should have otherwise been some amazing and intimate footage. This is very disappointing, to put it lightly, and I wish I had a solution, but we'll have to accept this for what it is, I suppose. It might eventually be appreciated in some campy way.

I guess it is fitting that Jeff wore a colourful, vibrant shirt with spirals on it, as it consummates the hypnotizing effects used by the camera man. Speaking of which, I have never seen Jeff wear that shirt in any other piece of footage, nor any photos. Perhaps it dissolved as a result of the whirlwind that the filmer caused to form, in the room.

Some people aren’t meant to be here a long time, I guess. It was weird because he was a continuum of his dad, but dare I say it, better. There’s people that would be really upset with me for saying that, like Tim Buckley fans. I’ve listened to him and can’t get into it like Jeff Buckley. That Grace record is just a masterpiece. That’s one of the 10 best records ever, up there with OK Computer and Nevermind and Ritual de lo Habitual. That’s one of the 10 greatest records of the 1990s."

A: "They took us across the street to a wine bar. They said, “Well, ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ we gotta say no to, ’cause it’s just too much. We just don’t do anything with ‘Stairway to Heaven.'” We’re like, “Whomp, whomp, whomp.” And Page goes, “But I would like to give you an extra song that’s more of an acoustic busking vibe; we’ll give that to you free.” He replaced “Stairway to Heaven” with “Bron-Yr-Aur.”
He gave that to us for free, just to have that texture in the movie, which was amazing. And we ran through the streets afterward. The rest of that meeting was spent talking about how much we all loved Jeff Buckley. Officially the coolest night ever, or the un-coolest night ever. I don’t know. That was a huge kind of buoy to swim to, because without Led Zeppelin, it’s just not the same movie.

"They took us across the street to a wine bar. They said, “Well, ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ we gotta say no to, ’cause it’s just too much. We just don’t do anything with ‘Stairway to Heaven.'” We’re like, “Whomp, whomp, whomp.” And Page goes, “But I would like to give you an extra song that’s more of an acoustic busking vibe. We’ll give that to you free.” He replaced “Stairway to Heaven” with “Bron-Yr-Aur.”
He gave that to us for free, just to have that texture in the movie, which was amazing. And we ran through the streets afterward. The rest of that meeting was spent talking about how much we all loved Jeff Buckley. Officially the coolest night ever, or the un-coolest night ever. I don’t know. That was a huge kind of buoy to swim to, because without Led Zeppelin, it’s just not the same movie."

GAP: Who is your favorite musical artist?

Brandon Boyd: "Jeff Buckley. When he came out, everyone was a little afraid to commit. Well, not everybody, but a lot of popular artists were afraid to commit completely to what they were doing. They kind of used irony as a sheet around them, kind of protecting them from having to own up to what they said. Not only did he have one of the best voices I have ever heard, he was one hundred percent committed to what he was doing. He was unabashedly romantic in his lyrics, and the way he sang.
He got some flak for it while he was alive, and it sucks because when someone dies people start to say maybe he was awesome, and they begin to analyze it differently. For those reasons, and I can go on forever about the guy. His voice has been influential to a lot of current artists, to people who might not even admit it, really. Just his range and where he would even try to go with his voice. The guts to go from one octave to two above. Not a lot of people are doing that...so also his falsetto influence has influenced me as well."

This is an excerpt from an interview, conducted by Jana Lynne White, for MuchMusic. I extracted this footage from a DVD, interspersed with live footage, hence, the abrupt applause, from the audience, at certain cut points.

The text, at the beginning of the video, says that this was recorded in Vancouver on November 16th, 1994, but I believe that date and location are incorrect. I am pretty sure that this was actually recorded in Toronto on October 28th, 1994.

I base this off the fact that Jana Lynne White worked out of Toronto, and Jeff's hair and outfit match footage from another television segment hosted by the same interviewer, on that day.

Additionally, Jeff was interviewed by Terry David Mulligan, in Vancouver (for MuchMusic's west coast affiliate, MuchWest), on the former date, and his hair and outfit were different from what is depicted in this footage.

This video was published on the 24th anniversary of Jeff's passing. God bless you, Jeff, wherever you are. You are deeply loved and missed.

"On this day in 1996, I saw Jeff Buckley perform in Melbourne.⁣ Jeff Buckley was something of an ethereal spirit: a musical magician whose album 'Grace' showcased a unique talent. His name was on the lips of all musos from the release of that album and for the next two years.⁣ I had heard him sing a couple of songs at a distance on the Other Stage at Glastonbury, where Page and Plant were headlining: you could feel him, it was extraordinary. I had listened intently to 'Grace' whilst I was on tour and made a point to see him at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne on this day in 1996."

(Cameron Crowe, asked about his inclusion of Led Zeppelin songs in his film, Almost Famous): How’d you secure the rights to the music?

“They took us across the street to a wine bar. They said, “Well, ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ we gotta say no to, ’cause it’s just too much. We just don’t do anything with ‘Stairway to Heaven.'” We’re like, “Whomp, whomp, whomp.” And Page goes, “But I would like to give you an extra song that’s more of an acoustic busking vibe. We’ll give that to you free.” He replaced “Stairway to Heaven” with “Bron-Yr-Aur.”
He gave that to us for free, just to have that texture in the movie, which was amazing. And we ran through the streets afterward. The rest of that meeting was spent talking about how much we all loved Jeff Buckley. Officially the coolest night ever, or the un-coolest night ever. I don’t know. That was a huge kind of buoy to swim to, because without Led Zeppelin, it’s just not the same movie.”
