Felony Traffic Stop Turns Into 120MPH Pursuit Cleveland Area Body Camera 2024-11-21 | Strongsville, Ohio -- The following is a narrative from the case report that has been slightly edited for publication and clarity:"On November 17, 2024, at approximately 1610 hours, I was dispatched to 16996 Southpark Ctr (Dillard’s) in regards to a theft complaint. Dispatch advised the vehicle involved was possibly stolen, and 7104 indicated that this vehicle had been involved in several crimes and pursuits with other police departments in recent weeks. I located the suspect vehicle in the north parking lot of Kohl’s. Due to the possibility of the vehicle being stolen, 7110 and I conducted a felony stop on the vehicle, orienting our firearms at the driver, identified as [Driver], and the front seat passenger, later identified as Jason Nyquist. 7110 a terminator spike strip under the rear passenger-side tire while we issued commands to both [Driver] and Nyquist. During this time, Nyquist exhibited constant furtive and sporadic movements.The driver, [Driver], was cooperative and exited the vehicle without incident. I directed [Driver] to walk backward with his hands on his head towards 7119, who arrived on the scene to assist. During this time, the front seat passenger, Nyquist, jumped into the driver’s seat and fled the scene. Nyquist recklessly exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed, swerving around a pedestrian who was walking in the lot. I detained [Driver], who provided an ID. 7144, 7132, 7119, and 7110 pursued Nyquist in an attempt to stop him. Nyquist was later apprehended after fleeing on foot from his vehicle and resisting officers. It was determined that Nyquist was the registered owner of the vehicle, which was listed as a Felony Vehicle.A search incident to Nyquist’s arrest was conducted on his vehicle, during which a suspected crack pipe with narcotic residue was located. During the vehicle pursuit, Nyquist ran several red traffic signals (please see 7119's and 7149's supplemental reports). Nyquist was positively identified by his state ID and BMV photograph.[Driver] was initially taken into custody pending further investigation and transported to the SPD Jail. Woman arrested after trying to control her traffic stop Cleveland Area Body Camera 2024-07-06 | Akron, Ohio -- Officers were patrolling the area of Grand Ave and Noble Ave when we observed a black Hyundai Santa Fe driving west on Grand Ave with no headlights on. Officers ran the plate and found that a Janae Pennington was attached to the vehicle. Janae had active felony warrants out of Jackson Township. Officers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Grand Ave and Storer Ave. Once at the vehicle officers spoke with the driver, Janae Pennington. Janae refused to identify herself to officers. Janae would not roll down her windows for officers. Officers asked Janae multiple times for her ID but she continually refused. While trying to get Janae to exit the vehicle Officers observed her reach up into her shirt and then preceded to reach into her waistband.
