But it does give you perspective about darker things, and the song wrote itself - an anthem for hope. I'd already roped Emberisolte into singing another WoW-related piece (for the Blizzcon 2010 contests), but there was time yet, so I figured I'd see how she felt about fast-tracking another one. The solution was painstaking, because I had to do it every time I used WMV (and too scared to tinker in case I broke it). Open model control, click available options. The 'loincloth' can be removed by unchecking 31 and 34. The female tail is 35-36; viable hairstyles sit around 46-51 (I used 49 for Panda Girl). This, however, is nothing compared to the face/body bugs of human males. My Babys a Quest NPC Grey Foo 2011-07-22 | This song is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/greyfoo What happens when the target of your affections becomes a quest NPC? I actually wrote and performed this song (over ventrilo) even before Burning Crusade, so forgive the anachronisms throughout (considering we're now in Cataclysm, three expansions late!) ... but I just had to use the Mek-chopper and what would tarty dancing be without Draenei! Of course, back in Classic WoW, being told to go off and clear Molten Core and Blackwing Lair was no small undertaking. Neither was preparing for this movie! Guess how long it took me to farm a full T2 costume for my paladin! Seven months, ironically! Chromaggus refused to play Loot-ball for the longest time (the T0 and T1 came a lot faster than that, thank goodness). I much prefer shooting in-game, when i can, so I never throw out a good costume set... but oh boy my banks are always bursting at the seams! I'd been meaning to create a video to this song for some time, but I'd also been promising to master my tunes and make them available for download, so a lot got shelved over the last nine months while I was delving into that. 'My Baby's a Quest NPC' was recorded, mixed and mastered using Logic Pro and WaveLabs audio plug-ins (that's why it's louder, ftw). Archaeology Grey Foo 2011-04-11 | This song is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/greyfoo When Cataclysm launched, I set myself a challenge to try and write a song about World of Warcraft's new profession -- Archaeology. It was during this process that Doctor Jones revealed he's not quite the 2-dimensional, pop-culture cardboard cut-out everyone makes him out to be. So... yet another Greyfoo movie with protagonists walking places, panning shots and girls staring wistfully into the camera, daring it not to fade them out (again). There's my usual token wardrobe malfunction too (bonus points if you spot it!). Ah if I only I could just record what's in my head straight onto YouTube, we'd all be better off. Actually, if I could do that, I'd probably just end up making endless movies about boobs, and nothing would actually get done. Dead and Loving It Grey Foo 2010-12-31 | This song is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/greyfoo I wrote 'Dead and Loving it' in September 2010 (although I'd been playing the guitar riffs for years bwahaha), as an entry for Blizzcon 2010. Emberisolte once again supplied her vocal magic, but sadly we didn't place among the finalists. Oh well! So really this song predates Sentinel Hill (by er, a week), but after Blizzcon I wanted some creative distance from both pieces and decided to channel my efforts into new works (like the Website, ugh). When I decided to make an actual movie for this, I figured it'd be nice to have some kind of padding, so I made up a stupid two-part sound script and started looking around for a suitable voice actor. I didn't have to look far, Bullworth just nailed it, his delivery and ad-libbing had me laughing a LOT. Burn The World Grey Foo 2010-11-21 | My submission to Blizzard's Cataclysm Video Contest! You'll find the contest - along with some fantastic clips from other artists, at http://fortune.worldofwarcraft.com/en_us/home.html Please support the competition by voting (via Facebook) as of November 23, and no doubt there will be some great last-minute, polished-to-perfection entries for you to check out. * * * * I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love Logic Pro. It's a musician's funpark, it really is. For 'Burn the World', I went digging into Logic's huge library of royalty-free clips, samples and sound effects, and mashed together/fiddled with/blew up all kinds of stuff. Typically I like to craft every note and noise from the ground up, but time was short. I grabbed a Major/4th/5th powerchord sequence I wanted Deathwing to rage to, and let fly. I'm happy to say that Deathwing nailed all his stuff off on the first take. Then I have to pitch-shift my vocals, and the guitars, down a tone together, so I can haz a more bassy growl. (FYI, Velen in Exodar Disco had a 3-semitone downshift of me attempting to do a normal 'dry' british voice). As for the other voices, that's just me having fun with pitch-shift, reverb and putting on a silly accent. I'm not very good at it (wtb less-Australian-drawl), but worry not my friends, I have BULLWORTH paying a voice-acting visit for my next movie, and I promise you he does not disappoint. No Place Like Gnome Grey Foo 2010-07-07 | A song for our little friends who could never go home. This song is available for download at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/greyfoo (also iTunes, etc -- just search for Greyfoo) Chronologically, this is my second WoW-song, first written in 2006 as a response to a "Now make a Gnome song!" request after I began singing "The Pally DPS Song" on Vent... while we were corpse-running back to AQ40, or swimming to Onyxia's lair. Ah, those halcyon days of Classic WoW. It's been hanging around all this time, making the occasional ventrilo appearance, while I waited for the day I'd have the (musical) capability to do it some justice as a recording. It is fitting then, that this is the first song I've recorded entirely in Logic Pro, and I'm very happy with the end result. The song was also recorded with a horrible chest cold, wtb less hacking coughs between vocal takes please. Exodar Disco Grey Foo 2010-05-17 | Draenei Lore, wearing shiny pants! (Im not sure how better to describe this) :P This song is available for download at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/greyfoo (also iTunes, etc -- just search for Greyfoo) I was halfway through recording this on the old PC (with ProTools LE) when I shelved it for Scarlet Toy, then decided to overhaul and upgrade my entire music studio/DAW-thingy. This meant I had to learn from scratch once more, but I doooo love Logic Pro Studio. Exodar Disco has a lot of audio files from the old sessions, combined with newer stuff created on the Mac. I guess its been a fickle indulgence while Ive been educating myself. Again :P While all this was happening, I discovered the awesomeness that is Emberisolte (see Youtube user EmberIsolte). I sent her a hello and asked if shed like to try a vocal spot sometime, and luckily she agreed - she loves the Draenei so it was meant to be! Also upgraded to Sony Vegas Pro (inspired by Disani/Ravensylphe, who produces machinima for Ember, among other things - see YouTube user RavensylpheG). Gone are the days of Windows Movie Maker (although I shall remember them fondly, all you Spacebar Clowns!). I use a combination of Adobe Illustrator, Flash and Photoshop for the additional graphics (like the cockpit HUD or disco backgrounds), but it's Sony Vegas Pro that does all the magic layering them together. Scarlet Toy Grey Foo 2010-03-03 | This clip depicts the tragedy of Word of Warcraft's Scarlet Crusade. This song is available for download at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/greyfoo (also iTunes, etc -- just search for Greyfoo) This was my submission to the Alienware Rise to Power Machinima Contest. The rules preclude the use of fancy cgi, so I created this film entirely out of in-game footage, using only crossfades to blend the shots together, with a 3-minute maximum time limit (the submitted file doesn't have the end-credits). To meet deadline I had to hurry a few things, especially the songwriting and recording consequently the audio isn't everything I wanted it to be oh well :( On top of this I'd never used Sony Vegas Studio before, so it all got a little bit frantic in places. The Contest outlined that we (ideally) base our movies around characters/bosses/entities and their feats and succession within WoW Lore. With CGI out of the picture, it got me thinking... what bosses or NPCs could I impersonate with my own toons, in-game? This ultimately led me to choose Herod and the Scarlet Crusade as my subject, for all the obvious reasons a classic, recognisable, *farmable* costume, and sooo much lore. My initial plan had been to create another 'silly' film, but the more I explored ideas, the deeper it pushed back, and the result is as you see it. "Light give me strength!" - Herod's own call, might just be a plea for sanity. * * * * I use two accounts to make my machinima, and capture it all with FRAPS. For those who like a look behind the scenes, see if you can pick where: I use Winterfall Firewater, and why; I specifically use a Rogue as a camera; I use more than one class/toon as the central character - their costumes are slightly different, can you tell them apart! * * * * I was very lucky to among the four US-realm winners selected, and congratulations to the other Alienware computer prize winners.
