Probably best as background to sleeping, reading, looking out the window, or daydreaming (as usual)...Being live and 'off the cuff' there's some noise and such in the audio chain which I could do nothing to remove, so be warned it's in there...Feeling very uninspired recently I haven't really written or recorded anything since my last posted video/music piece done on New Years Eve 2024.So I picked up a new guitar pedal in hopes in would inspire me to do something and this is the result.Played with guitar synthesizer and looper.G.H.
Frank Eckert Original #1 Cosmic Pickle 2025-03-06 | BACKGROUND: A dedication to my former musical partner (1978-1983), Frank Eckert, who passed away in November 2024.Back a number of years ago Frank sent me a batch of cassette tapes, crudely recorded music that he improvised that I wish I had now, but were lost when I moved around 2013. I wish I had them now.I was thinking that I would love to be able to post something, anything that Frank had recorded at home on his own, after his passing.Then I came across a few short tracks, which Frank must have sent me via email in my computer, but which I have no recollection of him sending me. There's only a few, short tracks, and these are certainly NOT professionally recorded in any modern way. Matter of fact. Frank never got into modern recording in any way, no digital or software/PC recording. These tracks sound to me like they were done on a 4-track cassette recorder, the kind of which came out in the early 1980's (and yes, I still have a functioning one myself). These recorders allowed 4 MONO tracks to be recorded on a standard cassette tape, meant to then be mixed down to a separate external 2-track stereo track. With this ancient technology one could NOT fix errors or 'bum' notes as one can easily do with modern home recording set-ups today, so what you hear is each instrument recorded as a complete 'live' play-through without fixes.Fishing through some old emails I still have from Frank I discovered him writing about the fact that he did have a 4-track recorder, verifying what I though as I listened to these tracks.Frank also mentioned that he had a number of pieces which weren't mixed to his satisfaction, but I have no idea if he was referring to these particular pieces or if he was referring to the audio tapes (now lost) that he had previously sent me.Since it's all the world now has I wanted to present these few pieces, one by one.I have only done a little bit of equalizing and a very tiny bit of reverb to the rather dry original recording, all very subtle. I included a couple of photos. My favorite one is the one with Frank playing his upright bass. This is how i'll always remember him and the image would have come from around the time that we were working together.From listening to this it appears that the instrumentation is electric guitar, electric bass, and probably some electric keyboard as well, all played by Frank.

Gary Hayden Approaching Halloween 1 [2022] Cosmic Pickle 2022-09-14 | I haven't been recording any 'serious' music for future mainstream release for some time, but I have been pushing myself-at times-to at least pick up an instrument and improvise something. This is a result of a live improvisation done the evening of September 13th, 2022. Being live to stereo 2-track, I couldn't' fix bum notes or correct the 'mix' in any way after-the-fact. So yes, at times the 'lead' line is a bit too loud in the mix, but I couldn't do anything to alter it.Post-production I did add a slight touch of reverb and chorus effect to the overall sound and fade-out at the end. Gary Hayden Night Sky 1 Cosmic Pickle 2022-08-23 | GH: Acoustic & Electric Guitars & Processing (August 2022)It's been quite a long time since I recorded anything new new using my guitars after doing a bunch of 'quickie' pieces using PC-based 'Virtual' instruments.So here is my latest, finally. Recorded mostly the evening before I was to go into surgery, I was hoping that I would get to finish it. I shouldn't have been too concerned and I did manage to finish it just 3 days after the surgery. I could have completed it even sooner if I hadn't been so lazy!

Gary Hayden: Cloud Watching [Mix 3] August 2020 Cosmic Pickle 2022-05-23 | Here's one that I found/rediscovered in my computer that I have little recollection of recording. It's another piece done by 'looping' my instruments (guitars with a bit of keyboard). I don't think I ever published it earlier here on YouTube, but I could be wrong. I even made 3 different versions of it. So I decided that i'll publish 2 of them separately. The first one is with a looped acoustic guitar 'strum'. The 2nd version is even more 'ambient' in nature. Gary Hayden Ambient Guitar From Pieces 1990 2001 CD Cosmic Pickle 2022-01-01 | This is my oldest 'commercially available' track, from my CD 'PIECES 1990-2001'.I'm not actually sure exactly when this was recorded, but almost certainly was between 1989 and the very early 1990's.Not originally intended to be part of an album this was simply a live improvisation done when I was feeling 'inspired', using only an acoustic guitar, volume pedal, and a then-new 'sound on sound' device.It was recorded directly to cassette tape, so that alone should give one an indication of how old it is.After all these years I can still play this and enjoy it solely as a listener. So I thought i'd start off a new year with a very old piece....

Gary Hayden-Frank Eckert Project Terrace 1982 Cosmic Pickle 2021-06-19 | "TERRACE" (1982) (Hayden) Gary Hayden-Frank Eckert ProjectThe story behind this recording:Back in June 1982, along with my musical partner Frank, we went into a semi-professional recording studio for the first time to record several originals I had written.These were recorded on an 8-track reel-to-reel recorder. I still own the master reel tapes but have no way to transfer them for a new, fresh, and high quality sounding mix. For that i'd have to find and pay for an expensive professional studio. But I did recently rediscover the original master cassette of these sessions. Though the tape is now 39 years old this month (at the time of writing this), its quality has certainly diminished with time. There's a ton of flutter and things I couldn't 'fix' so it's presented here 'as is', at least until one day when I can afford to take those original reel tapes into a studio for a fresh remaster and remix.I decided to put this track up all the same for whatever historical value it may have. I was 22 at the time, Frank was 23 and he had just switched from electric bass to upright acoustic just weeks before we recorded this.For the life of me I can't recall the name of the drummer we used on this recording at the time (though I can picture him!)... We went through many drummers at the time, I couldn't even keep count....By the next time we went into a studio to to record more original pieces, in January 1983, Frank and myself just decided to forgo all the drummers and play the percussion stuff ourselves and we never did use a drummer again as I recall....A 'special guest' appearance on the female vocals was by Geraldine Eckert-Frank's sister who was, at the time, a student at a local music college.40 years after first writing this little piece I am now in the process of recording a new (all solo) version which, hopefully, will be released at some point in the not-too-distant future.Gary Hayden: Acoustic Guitars, Background VoiceFrank Eckert: Upright Bass, Recorder, Lead Voice, PercussionUnknown: Kit Drummer, PercussionGeraldine Eckert: Female Voice
