Cake the Cat is really feeling herself though, and has no fear even when facing the Vampire King. Simon realizes his worth as a parent and sees what a bad dad could have done to Marceline, while back in Fionna’s universe, Gary Prince also saves Marshall Lee from bad parenting. Bonnie and the Star were great alternate versions of their prime counterparts, Huntress was fun, and wholesome Martin Mertens felt so strange, but I think Peppermint Tank stole the show for me as my personal favorite. This was a great jam-packed episode which had alternate-universe characters meeting their demise left and right.

Simon Petrikov is vindicated, and all is well. Except that Simon still thinks he can get cursed the correct way, and Fionna is only just starting to realize the tragedy that has followed the group’s wake as they hop across worlds. This episode still leaves our central cast on the backburner, but it was a delightful romp through the snow with the Winter King, and a sweet dulcet chorus of sugary goodness with the Candy Queen. Oh, and it was very charming to see Marshall Lee finally hook up with Gary Prince!

And FW Jake is still alive, though super duper old. Simon, Cake, and Fionna bumble their way through this reality while the Scarab continues to chase them down, leading to a skull-crushing ending.

Many of our characters are depressed, Simon even considered giving up, while Fionna & Cake finally realize their entire world may be on the cusp of being eradicated. Adventure Time pulls off an impeccable balancing act of keeping harmony between the humor and sorrow. Also, the Scarab, a brand new antagonist, finally makes his debut with the power to turn peeps into tamagotchi-like eggs. Another awesome episode that shows why the fun will never end.

I had fun watching Cake and Squirrel enact silly hijinks together before Fionna beats up everyone to save her beloved pet/roommate. This episode was very enjoyable, but did not pack as many mind-blowing moments as the episodes surrounding it, so it comes off as relatively lackluster (again, only because the other episodes were so dang amazing). Oh, and the start with Prismo watching Jake Suit in action was a delight!

We also got to see Choose Goose (now evil from Coconteppi’s ichor), Dirt Beer Guy, TV, and of course, none other than Finn Mertens (who got JACKED)! The forest environment in this episode was also among my favorites. I cannot wait to see what developments occur next in Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake.

The first episode of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake was an absolute hook, line, and sinker; I loved it, and it completely turned me around on the concept of having a Fionna and Cake miniseries (and this was before I even watched the second episode, which was also incredible)!

In an interview, Gege Akutami (the mangaka of Jujutsu Kaisen) revealed an unused idea that would have inserted something into the guts of the human characters – intestinal cursed energy-based 'bugs' (Gege did not specify whether it was a cursed spirit or cursed technique) that allow sorcerers to go on missions without needing to eat or use the bathroom. Why did Gege invent this lore and feel the need to share it with others? I don't know, but I'm gonna build on the concept as if I was a daring dung beetle curse.

A surprising aspect of this spin-off is the two titular genderbent leads will be teaming up with Simon Petrikov (who is now free from his Ice King persona) for a multiverse-hopping adventure. The scope and amount of episodes to this story makes me hopeful that not only will we flesh out the characters of Fionna and Cake like never before, but Simon will have an entire character arc for us to witness. Will we see Golb/Golbetty? Will we see those Lich hands which entered every universe/reality back in the episode “Crossover”? Will we see stuff we’ve never seen before that raises more questions than answers in true Adventure Time fashion? I shed some speculations and thoughts, but obviously we won’t know what happens until we can watch the show ourselves.

With the saucy service bell Kez to aid them, and Amelia overthrowing One as the Conductor in the background, these two rock buddies venture through the “train to nowhere” to unlock the true Chicken Choice Judy experience within their collective selves.
Infinity Train has unfortunately been canceled at Book 4, despite the storyboards for Season 5 already having been created (after a movie pitch was rejected, to boot!). Then (to pour gasoline in the wound and light it ablaze), the series was completely removed from HBO Max and Cartoon Network due to dumb executive decisions from the Warner-Discovery merger. All hope is not lost, but it will be a massive bummer if this fantastic series can’t find a way to continue (which is sadly a possibility), because this train to nowhere still has so many stops left!

What an absolutely delightful saṃsāra of an adventure!
While the series finale, "Come Along With Me," looked at the world of Adventure Time from a grand scale, "Together Again" was an intimate, heartfelt, and joyous exploration of the bond between Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, but also included a wacky quest where our heroic duo reunites to save the Dead Worlds from New Death's shenanigans with the aid of Joshua, Margaret, and none other than Tiffany (who decides to attain redemption by abandoning being a dirty cop Undertaker and becoming an honorary brother to Finn, Jake, and Jermaine). I loved the journey from start to finish.
I really wanted to have this review be a single lengthy video, but my depression has been a constant diabolical tranch, and I currently have no idea when I’ll regain my capability and zest to make more videos. I (obviously) hope that I will be able to return with more content sooner than later. This chunk of the full review was (mostly) created shortly after “Together Again” originally premiered way back when. While the monster battles failed to adequately portray the awe-inspiring scale of these gigantic titans (Shin Godzilla pulled this off exceptionally well, on the other hand), the fights were nonetheless very enjoyable (embracing the wackiness certainly helped). The plot was bad of course (as expected), but what frustrated me most is that the human side of things could have at least been tolerable if you just excise the “conspiracy crew” completely from the movie. With some minor alterations beyond that, I think you could even scramble together a decent story experience from what’s on the cutting board without much difficulty, although I do not expect Godzilla vs. Kong to ever get an alternate improved cut (would be nice, though). These are my thoughts on how to fix Godzilla vs. Kong so that it could be a more fun film.

Stakes was not just about hunting vampires; it was about Marceline’s personal journey of dealing with her immortal existence and finding the strength to keep going. Those whom Marceline fights against represent characteristics and elements in her own life, and this makes the Stakes miniseries a very holistic experience. The tarot apply toward Marceline just as much as they do to the vampires. Join me in this video essay as I explore the rich narrative behind Marcy and the vamps!

Join me as I discuss how much time may have passed / how old Finn Mertens might be in this Distant Lands special, why Bronwyn tagged along in (what I presume to be Finn’s) van, and why the Land of Ooo’s most famous hero (who is now scruffy, bearded, and scarred-up) has a big chest tattoo of his brother Jake the Dog who is nowhere to be found. Things get rather sad, because yeah, I personally am convinced that Jake is dead, but I do find bittersweet sentiment in the gonzo chest tattoo that Jake has been memorialized with on Finn’s pecs. Even if Jake did die, his spirit surely lives on in the world of Adventure Time!
Music briefly featured at the end was the Gilligan Moss Mix of Eternity With You.
Rather than doing a review like usual, for this Adventure Time Distant Lands special, I am going to be making multiple videos focusing on different topics. This first one is about the comedy in Obsidian, where I discuss which jokes and humor resonated with me and/or which comedic moments I found interesting.
Other video topics I mentioned that you can expect in the future: Finn (and Jake) in the Obsidian timeline. Young Marcy and her mom (Elise). Glass Kingdom, Glassboy, and Molto Larvo. And I didn’t mention this in the video, but I’m thinking of discussing Bonnibel and Marceline via song analyses (dissecting and discussing the lyrics, feel, and meaning of It’s Funny, Woke Up, Monster, and Eternity With You, as well the actual events happening during the songs).
Music used at the start is (obviously) “Eternity With You (feat. Michaela Dietz & Zuzu)”

Down with the false Conductor! Only a fraction of the episode takes place in the Musical Car, where the denizens were performing Jesse’s song about empathy (when I look at you, I see me), until they were violently assaulted by the Apex. The rest of the episode takes place in the Gravity Turtle College Car (alternatively, the Unfinished Car), where an unexpected train rearrangement leaves Grace and Simon stranded without backup. “The Musical Car” was an excellent start to the new season.

Of course one should probably be careful when it comes to believing delinquents with mildly fascist undertones who run a child cult. Grace and Simon utilize legitimate cult recruitment methodologies when trying to gain Jesse’s favor to have the lad join the Apex, and their attempts may very well have worked had Jesse not already developed a deep and meaningful bond with Lake over the course of their adventures.

"The Map Car" was fantastic from a characterization perspective. The episode is Jesse-centric and primarily serves to get his character arc into gear, but touches upon many themes of Book Two of Infinity Train, even those pertaining to Lake. Also, Marcel's refusal to follow the intended purpose of the train car by attempting to keep passengers exploring indefinitely indirectly facilitates Jesse’s growth as a person, and I’m sure Agent Mace would have a few choice words about that coincidence.

Worst case is I’d get horribly murdered by something, which would still be an absolute win in my eyes.
My reviews of Book 2: Cracked Reflection will be done in a retrospective manner, meaning I may discuss events that occur in future episodes, and I will not be calling the main character Mirror Tulip or MT, but rather the name she picks for herself in the final episode: Lake.
Despite the episode being called “The Black Market Car,” most of it takes place in the canopy of the the Family Tree Car. The day after a magical deer saves Lake from the Mirror Police, Jesse shows up and the Travel Friends gang is assembled, whether Lake likes it or not. Only for Alan Dracula to peace out due to either ulterior motives or a distatse for yelling (or both). Who knows what goes through the mind of this wacky deer.
The Unfinished Car establishes pieces for the finale and Tulip’s ability to see herself in others. The Chrome Car had Mirror Tulip on the run from the Flecs. Eager to see more Mirror Police and Mirror Tulip in Book Two: Cracked Reflection. The Ball Pit Car served up some childhood relaxation followed by severe trauma. The Past Car had Tulip learn the backstory of the Conductor. The Engine had Tulip confront Amelia to save Atticus, while One-One finally finds their mom. Tulip finally returns home, capable of adapting to life's changes, and ready for anything.

Steven Universe: The Movie looks great, sounds great, and is packed with emotion, but lacks substance behind that energy.
The way the movie treats the Diamonds is awful, the main cast only retreads experiences they already had, and Spinel (while zany, wacky, and sympathetic) has a character arc that's not particularly compelling and ends rather horrifically. Thematically, there's too many issues that fun packaging can't cover up, and thus I didn't like Steven Universe: The Movie. Spinel's clown shoes squeaking did amuse me though.
I endlessly looped "Other Friends" because it was tied for my favorite song (with Disobedient), and it got stuck in my head super bad, and thus I shall make it get stuck in all your heads too. Also, it just works really well as background music.

Scavengers is a beautiful animated short that premiered on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in late 2016. The animation is about two humans surviving on an alien world while longing for the civilization they left behind on planet Earth. The Adventure Time series finale review is hot on the heels of this update video, so you don’t have to wait too much longer to finally hear my thoughts on “Come Along With Me.”
If you haven’t seen Scavengers, I suggest you do so to prepare for my future video on this beautiful animation short. It’s only 8 minutes, and well worth your time. You can view the whole thing here: http://vimeo.com/179779722

I am still currently trying to resolve this. My content is from an adult viewer's perspective and targeted at other adults to foster discussion about the surprising depth that Adventure Time packs.
In this speculative video, I explore notes and drawings by Steve Wolfhard (a writer and storyboard artist for Adventure Time) of Gibbon and a variety of concept design pups (which never appear in the show itself). Join me in my attempt to theory-craft some makeshift lore about the future Land of Ooo and its inhabitants.

Join me as I dissect the visuals in this new opening and provide thoughts and speculations on what we get to witness.

The Diamonds learn the truth, try to revert corrupted gems, and we go to Homeworld and meet White Diamond. All in a single episode. Sloooooow down, SU!

Still quite a solid double-feature though.

"Diamonds and Lemons" was packed with laughs, but also has a nice sentiment behind the hijinks.

(Steven Universe “Made of Honor” Discussion)Uncivilized Elk2018-07-20 | Let’s get back to Bismuth. It took far too long to unbubble this gem if you ask me, and I have rather mixed feelings about “Made of Honor” now that the time has finally arrived.
For channel news and updates, follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/UncivilizedElkQuestioning the Answer – “The Question” Analysis (Steven Universe)Uncivilized Elk2018-07-14 | The episode aptly named “The Question” recontextualizes “The Answer” and causes Ruby to experience a brief identity crisis. Ruby decides she wants to be Garnet, but on her and Sapphire’s terms, so we’re going to have a big gay wedding!

That being said, I didn’t find the first half of the episode all that hot, but the second half which demonstrates just how far the relationship between Amethyst and Steven has developed is absolutely incredible.

I had rather mixed feelings on "Now We're Only Falling Apart," and I'm still not sure whether I liked the episode overall or not.
For channel news and updates, follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/UncivilizedElkHow Steven Universe Portrays Mental Illness in Pool HoppingUncivilized Elk2018-06-29 | This will be a rather personal analysis video. The negative attributes of future vision, especially in the episode “Pool Hopping,” resonated with me strongly because of how much it reminded me of generalized anxiety disorder and my own experience with both GAD and depression. Steven Universe has always explored social issues through fantasy elements, and I discuss my personal interpretation of how future vision plays into this trend.
Music is from the Steven Universe OST: Moonlit Battlefield I’m Still Here Love Like You Instrumental (mixed by Phizzy)Jurassic Worlds Dinosaurs Are TerribleUncivilized Elk2018-06-19 | This video is both a critique of Jurassic World from a conceptual perspective as well as an examination of what the movie gets wrong about extinct animals.
Scientifically accurate representations of dinosaurs and other extinct animals on the big screen would be awesome simply due to the rarity of paleontological accuracy in pop culture, but more importantly, I think rooting the Jurassic film franchise in scientific knowledge would create a more unique, interesting, and enjoyable movie experience. While this might seem counter-intuitive, grounding the appearance and behavior of extinct animals in reality can actually circumvent lazy writing and common tropes, while also making the on-screen animals far more interesting and creative.
Basically, my thesis is that the abundance of scientific inaccuracy in movies featuring animals (both extinct and extant) often creates stupidity and stifles creativity.

What's the reason for Steven? When did Pink Diamond develop her powers and did she keep them secret? Double life logistics? Is the gemstone rotation thing acceptable or dumb? (The answer is both.) What was the timing for planting the Cluster? Why does Pink Diamond's gemstone not match her mural? Also why is she so small?

The twist was quite shocking, and sent waves across the Steven Universe fanbase. Whether you loved or hated the revelation, it certainly put the show back in the spotlight by shaking things up. In this video, I discuss my thoughts and feelings on Rose Quartz being Pink Diamond.

While the big plot twist that Rose Quartz was actually Pink Diamond stole the focus (as it should), there was plenty of amazing Pearl content for further character study of her and her tragic past. So before I discuss my thoughts on the Pink Diamond reveal, I want to dedicate a video to Pearl's presence in "A Single Pale Rose."
