In the spring of 2020, Corey Feist lost his sister-in-law, Dr. Lorna Breen, to suicide. In response to her death, Corey and his family received an overwhelming amount of support and shockingly, many messages from health care professionals with similar experiences. He and his wife went on a mission to change the work culture and stigma around mental health for healthcare workers. Corey has since then co-founded The Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation, which aims to provide a supportive community for health care professionals and their families. The Foundation’s mission is to reduce burnout of health care professionals and safeguard their well-being and job satisfaction.
Today, we celebrate the tireless work of Corey and the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation with the passing of the “Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act” in honor of Dr. Lorna Breen. This bill will provide incredible resources to raise awareness, provide support, and promote help-seeking for healthcare workers and their mental health.
