A smart way to load and secure Hobie Lynx to kayak cart! EVERYTHING cpo (@Vaarticus; @go.fast.r) 2023-08-22 | This is my version of working smarter, not harder. Let's face it, a fully loaded kayak is sometimes tough to get properly loaded onto your cart. This is especially true when you are on the beach, tired, and alone. I can usually get the kayak "close" to properly positioned by myself....but I always end up having to tweak the alignment. That's a lot harder to do that you might think sometimes when you are doing it alone because you have to lift the kayak AND adjust the cart all at the same time. Then, sometimes you have to strap the cart to the kayak (which is expected, btw) or it will slip out of position. I find when I make turns to get around boardwalks or sidewalks, the wheels of the cart end up pointing diagonally, and then pulling the cart straight becomes problematic. This is my solution to all of that. This is how I load and secure my Hobie Lynx kayak to my Wilderness Systems Heavy Duty Kayak Cart with inflatable beach wheels. And before you say it... I started out with a cart that fits in the scupper holes and absolutely hated it. It was even more difficult to load on the beach because of the precision required to get the cart posts into the holes. There are a whole bunch of videos showing a hack to solve that problem, and I believe this is actually way simpler. And also, before you say it, I would load my scupper cart while the kayak was in the water... because the back of the kayak will float and it makes it easy to slip the cart underneath. That does not work so well with these big balloon beach tires! And if there is any heavy wave action at the beach, it's even worse! So, again... those are options, but I still find this to be a smarter solution that does not require a lot of strength or precision to pull off. It's way easier to lift the kayak an inch or two and pull the straps than anything else I have tried. If you have experienced any of the things I mentioned in the video, then hopefully this method will be useful for you. But that last little fish I caught on the way back to the boat ramp has me confused. Did you see the way it opened its mouth and grabbed my pliers. It was like a snake. Maybe it was a snake head. I wasn't sure so I let it go. If I find out it is invasive (whatever it is) I'll definitely know better next time.

Fixed! Intake Manifold Runner Stuck Closed (P2006/P2015) EVERYTHING cpo (@Vaarticus; @go.fast.r) 2022-08-08 | Last week, I had a check engine light come on after accelerating pretty heavily to merge into traffic. The code was P200600 and P201500. Both are related to an Intake Manifold Runner problem, specifically that it was "stuck closed". This video is a quick session showing how it works, my troublshooting method, and then how I solved this issue by using a part from another intake manifold I had in the garage. When the manifold is "stuck closed" it is because there is a spring in the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) that is forcing it closed. This is the normal position below 3,800 RPM. At 3,800 RPM, the solenoid under the intake manifold will open and allow vacuum to open the manifold runner. Then below 3,800 RPM the vacuum is closed back off and the spring closes the runner. So if the runner is "stuck closed" it's very highly likely that there is not sufficient vacuum to open it when it is commanded by the ECU. This also throws off the position sensor because it isn't seeing the proper range for an open runner (because it doesn't actually open). Anyway... I hope you find this video helpful! Gapping my Slant Ground Spark Plugs (Non-Projected Electrode) EVERYTHING cpo (@Vaarticus; @go.fast.r) 2022-05-16 | So I know someone will mention that you can put the feeler gauge in place, and then screw the ground strap down to the electrode and be done, with no risk of going to far. While that does ensure you can’t accidentally screw it down too far, my experience has been that it doesn’t actually end up set where the feeler gauge is. The ground strap seems to spring back a bit after you loosen the screw. I suppose you could go a feeler gauge thinner and it will work out in the end, but I honestly just find it works just fine the way I do it in this video. So that’s the way I do it.

MQB Intake Manifold Swap - Preparing for MPI Installation EVERYTHING cpo (@Vaarticus; @go.fast.r) 2022-04-29 | In this video, I am covering my swap of the factory North American version of the intake manifold for an International version which was provisioned for MPI (multiport injection). I could have modified my factory manifold, but I decided to just swap it out. The removal and installation was pretty easy, but I did not have the front bracket that may make it more difficult. Anyway, the trick I found to getting the manifold in and out easily was to remove the oil filter. That gave just enough room to ease the manifold out. If I didn’t do that, it looks like I would have had to loosen or remove the hard fuel line that feeds the direction injection fuel injectors from the HPFP (high pressure fuel pump). This was my first turbo swap, so I definitely learned a lot. I hope this helps others.
How to do a Wastegate Actuator Bench Calibration and Adaptation (MK7/IS20/IS38) EVERYTHING cpo (@Vaarticus; @go.fast.r) 2022-03-04 | I wanted to set my wastegate actuator voltage BEFORE putting the turbo in the car so I didn't have to worry about access to the adjustment rod. Here is the process. This process is most useful when you want/need to calibrate the wastegate to a turbo, but might not have the car readily available or don't want to take it out to the car for the calibration process... or you don't want to put the car back together to turn on the ignition... lol Lots of reasons why this could be useful. There ARE other ways to calibrate a wastegate actuator. This is the bench method.
