Kurenai
Thunder Force (PC-88)
updated
She basically wanted a tune for her character which combines both traditional and digital instruments, to convey the feelings of magic in a modern world.
Much like the previous commission I've shown, I was handed a few pre-made melodies, so I tried my best to include most of them into this.
This is a bit of a pseudo-arrange, given the client handed me the a music sheet they have prepared beforehand of their character's song, so I was asked to create something more battle-esque, haha.
This is a bit of a special one, here's the deal: basically, they have managed to meet via Undertale and Fire Emblem, so they requested a tune that mixes the chiptune style and orchestral sounds found in both of those games.
I was so touched by the request that I did everything in my power to give it a wholehearted feeling.
So yeah. I'm definitely a bit late, but regardless, hope you guys had a great Valentine's Day!
The character's a keyboard player who was possessed by a demon from an old piano, her possession growing strong the more skilled she became at playing. With that in mind, I was basically asked to compose something that sounds like an opera gone wrong.
I'm not too well-versed on Mexican music myself, but I think I have done very well to catch what he wanted for his character.
I was asked to compose something lighthearted and chiptune-y to fit with the guy's timid yet gentle nature. Anyway, let's not ignore that the request is sitting there... will you accept it? I would, since we seem to have a few things in common, haha.
A strong spirit that succumbs into a depressive state; that's the main feeling I was asked to convey when composing this.
The premise was simple: during the entirety of October, people sent me their original characters and I composed a song based on my perception of each one of them, hence the name.
There were rules in order to not overwhelm myself, however: each song must be 30 seconds or shorter. Plus, during each week, I randomly picked up four characters to do so with the exception of the 4th and final week, in which five characters were selected due of demand by my followers.
Overall, I think it has gone pretty well and I thought it was very fun. I was surprised by the amount of people who were interested to participate, and the fact that I managed to compose all these small songs in such a limited time with varying musical genres was just mind-blowing, if I say so myself.
And so, here's a compilation of ALL the songs I did for this. Enjoy!
Download the album here:

The album was revealed a few days ago, but the demo will be available this November.
So yeah, we needed a track that conveys the same, if not greater, magnificence of the first track from the previous album and here's what I delivered. If you're wondering why there's motifs to Sumireko, well... she's friends with her, right?
So yeah, what is this "letter" about? Is it a letter of love? Hope? Acceptance? This theme was composed without any purpose in mind other than de-stressing myself, so I guess it all depends on your point of view.
I was initially asked to compose a theme that sounds as synthetic and rough as possible, given the character's status as an extraterrestrial.
This is the title screen theme of 東方制覇槍 ~ Ruinous Enclosure of Heaven, Paradise of Boundaries' first Touhou fangame.
The same-as-usual melody, along with something else. Can you guess what it is? There's an amount of tension in this song that builds the more it progresses. It's scary, but also gives a sense of preparation for what's to come.
I always wanted to participate in the creation of a game's soundtrack... and I've got my wish granted, which is great!
The game's currently not available yet, but will update once the demo and the full release are out.
Yeah, sorry for disappearing every so often, but that's what happens when I'm busy doing projects AND I don't have a powerful enough PC to do my work with. However, now I do, and it's pretty powerful.
Anyway, here's a small medley I composed for the ending of Paradise of Boundaries' Bunbunmaru Extra 14. As the name suggests, it is a compilation of all the original themes the team has created, including those from our album Otherwordly Paradox.
Wanted to convey a "thank you for joining our adventure" vibe.
Taking into account that we were going to take pauses between tracks to show viewers the story corresponding to each song, we've had the idea to compose songs so it doesn't get silent and lonely.
===Otherworld Journey===
If you have a trained ear like I do, you'll notice that this song mixes the motifs found in Theme of Eastern Story with Track 1 from the album.
Initially, this was going to be the only song that was going to play between each track, but then I was told that it would sound unfitting as the story was progressing, so I made a few more.
===Rambling Outsider===
Not much different from the first one, except it's slower and more ambient-like. It's soothing enough to let the viewers not get too distracted... or at least that's what I thought.
===Unknown Anxiety===
While it retains the same tempo as the second intermezzo, now it has a more ominous vibe to it.
I like the heartbeat I added to the song, it definitely gives the sensation that something is off.
===Escape the Truth!===
Based on Track 11 by JerryStuff (Ro). Pretty self-explanatory in regards to the events of the narrative.
===Otherworld Return===
A happy ending is being unfolded. So, with that in mind, I based this song on both my Track 1 and Track 12 by Roka Enzaki to make something more relaxed and joyful.
===Timeline===

0:54 - Otherworld Journey
3:47 - Rambling Outsider
6:43 - Unknown Anxiety

We've reached the halfway point of the narrative, and Seiko gets the chance to rest for a while in a small plateau located somewhere in Gensokyo.
Before we did the massive overhaul to the story, in the first iteration, I envisioned the idea that this plateau was covered in exotic flora that didn't exist in the Outside World and the combined smell of them had a sedative effect on the protagonist's consciousness, hence why I gave this track its current name and a more relaxed feeling in contrast to the rest of the tracks.

As you may have already guessed, this is an arrange of the Stage 2 theme from Touhou 10: Mountain of Faith. Since this track is from a game that's nearly 13 years old, I tried my best to give it the essence of the newer titles.
Our protagonist has found herself a hermit that will guide her through Gensokyo in search for her favorite occultist idol... with mixed results. Their adventure begins in the most life-threatening way imaginable, but the outsider has managed to stay unscathed by walking through this dark forest, for now.

This is the initial track for the album, right in which our protagonist enters the mysterious world of Gensokyo through her dreams... or does she?
We needed a good introductory theme that invokes both mysteriousness but also eagerness for what's going to happen, so I tried my best to use the needed instrumentalization to make it sound epic.
I can't tell you how glad I am to FINALLY be able to show this song, since it has been stored in my hard drive for nearly 4 months prior to the release of the album and every day I was just quaking of excitement. But finally, here it is! Hope you enjoy it!

Done using 0CC-Famitracker, and only using the Namco 163 chip, since it's pretty similar to the WSG chip the company used in their early arcade games.
This was quite an experience to create. I mostly had problems with the wedding theme, since I'm still not 100% sure how to effectively and easily do triplets in FamiTracker.
Also, in case you don't believe I made this and think I just recorded it from the actual game, here's the .nsf so you can play it on your NES emulator of your choice: mega.nz/file/HNhyFS6T#YBvtjhqA6AHm15w9pgxzS-lcwO9A3vL1Z5DwoEkazqM
Staff roll arrange of the theme of Paradise of Boundaries, a Spanish-speaking Touhou community. The original song was composed by Williatico, as found here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl_42AVgGDs
I was asked by the founder of PoB to create a theme that would be appropriate for showing the credits, and so, this was the result.
I would say it's mostly an arranginal because, while it was based on the work of somebody else, I did add my own twists to it.
The song was first featured at BBEX Direct, as shown here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr-QWOrAKsU
Here's an orchestral version I made of the final stage from Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom.
This is the 2nd time I attempt to compose something that's not in the style of ZUN, and I think I've done quite well.
Originally, this was going to have vocals from an acquaintance, but because of problems in regards of the ongoing pandemic, it didn't happen.
Enjoy!
Also, it's been a long while since I last did this, so here's the list of instruments I've chosen to experiment with this style:

My contribution to Paradise of Boundaries' Lotus Land Story Remastered Soundtrack, which was showcased here: youtube.com/watch?v=PllOFFW9_nQ
While I didn't contribute a lot to this album, considering I was invited to join the team while it was near its completion, it was really fun to be working on this remaster.
Since the theme is mixed in the style of TD, there's a Spirit Trance version, which plays starting at 2:45!

Here's my PC98-style cover of Nitori's theme from Mountain of Faith.
Done using BambooTracker, a nearly brand new piece of software that made it so much easier to recreate this track, because I'm too lazy+stupid to figure out MML.
After all the chiptune stuff I've been working on, I've decided it was time to go back to using a DAW and VSTs.
So, here's an arrange of something quite obscure; the boss theme from Sonyc, a bootleg Sonic the Hedgehog game for the MSX2.
I initially knew about this game several years ago on Vinesauce Joel's MSX2 Madness stream, and until this day, I'm still amazed by the quality of the music.
So yeah, just wanted to add my own twist to this really energetic song... in fact, I think I'm the only person in the whole world who actually bothered to arrange this obscure piece from a game nobody ever talks about, lmao.
Here's my cover of the theme from Mayumi Joutouguu, the Stage 5 boss of Touhou 17: Wily Beast and Weakest Creature, but recreated in the style of a MSX game by Konami.
The main reason why this is a "pseudo" cover is because I made this using 0CC-FamiTracker, which is definitely NOT a tracker for MSX music, but I figured it'll still work well because:
-The Namco 163 works very similarly to Konami's SCC, since they both rely on wavetables.
-The Sunsoft 5B chip stores a Yamaha YM2149, which itself is a derivative of the AY-3-8910.
So yeah, I think it all went pretty well. ┌ |● 0 ●| 」
Ayy, look at that, I'm not dead!
So, I suddenly decided to upload the music I have on Soundcloud into here, considering it's been nearly 2 years since I touched my channel, so yeah.
Speaking of being inactive, all my videos starting with this one will have a little warning at the beginning.
Anyway, taking into consideration the reveal of Sans in Smash Bros. Ultimate around last year, here's a DOS-esque cover of the theme that plays in the ruins from UNDERTALE, which I made around June of that year.
I mainly intended to use Adlib Tracker II to recreate this song, but I found it immensely complicated, so I switched to OpenMPT, which made everything slightly easier.
Listening to this song and recreating it made me feel extremely nostalgic... kinda makes me wish I could go back in time and re-experience the game.
So yeah, here's my cover of the theme you listen in DELTARUNE when the team fights Lancer's dad.
Once again, I've used 0CC-FamiTracker, along with the Namco 163 expansion chip.
I'm not a massive fan of this character, to be honest. He looks cool design-wise, but just the fact that the guy was threatening the party to kill his own son if they didn't step back... that genuinely left a bitter taste in my mouth, he ain't like Asgore. But anyway, that's irrelevant.
Also, this will be my last cover for a while because I want to focus on other personal projects of mine, so yeah. Enjoy!
Toby also made an amazing job to keep the soundtrack as banging as the previous game. So without further ado, I wanted to make a cover, and here it is; the theme that plays when the emblem's prophecy is explained to the player.
Made using 0CC-FamiTracker. This is also my first time using multiple chips for expanded audio, instead of limiting myself to just one.
Also, there's a little bit of a message at the end. It'll be deeply appreciated if you take the time to read it. It is in regards of the activity in my channel.
Heh... now THAT .gif is projecting into my mind as I'm hearing this cover, thanks Tumblr.
This was done using DefleMask.
Made with 0CC-Famitracker, using the Namco 163 chip for additional audio (I only used 5 out of the 8 extra channels, though).
What mainly enticed me to create this cover was Neru's phone beeps at the beginning of the song, since I imagined its waveform would be simple enough to recreate, and I was right. Speaking of which, all the waveforms I used for this cover were borrowed from existing games, save for the bass and the phone beep, which were entirely drawn on my own. And speaking of waveforms, the DPCM orchestra hit samples were taken from the Edirol SD-20.
Half-way during the creation of this cover of mine, I noticed that there was already an 8-bit cover of this song floating around, done by Kurofox4444, which uses the Konami VRC6. While it was nicely done, I personally felt certain aspects of it didn't have enough pizzazz, such as some inaccurate notes and a very faint percussion. So, with Kuro's cover in mind, I kept experimenting to make something much more improved.
Anata no kororo wo bakyunkyun~
I wanted to see if I could recreate the song as accurately as possible using Konami's FM chip, I think it went pretty well?
Made using 0CC-Famitracker.
Made using 0CC-Famitracker. While I was messing about with the triangle wave channel, I noticed it had some vague similarities to the melody of the original, which led to the idea of creating this.
Just like my previous chiptune work, working with only the five channels of the NES was a hassle to work with, so once again I've opted to use expanded audio; this time, I've chosen Gimmick!'s Sunsoft 5B chip.
Very good chip overall, the white noise register was quite useful for additional percussion.
I mainly intended to get this done for September 18th (the date of my country's Independence Day), but it had to be delayed due of personal reasons. But here it is, anyway.
As some of you already know, I mostly compose Touhou-style stuff. But this time, I decided to step out of that comfort zone and try out composing chiptune stuff, and this was the result, which I'm quite satisfied with.
Entirely done with FamiTracker. I mainly intended to work using only the 5 channels of the NES' APU, but I thought it was too limited, so I ended up using the additional audio channel from the Famicom Disk System.
And before you ask, yes; I have used FDS waveforms from Konami games, mostly because I was too lazy to draw my own.
Anyway, this is my entry for Day 10 of Gensokyo Festival, an event hosted by Ciryes on Tumblr in which each day people can submit their work based on a certain topic about Touhou, Day 10 being PC-98 themed. This is an arrange of Louise's theme from Mystic Square, made to sound HSiFS-ish.
Enjoy!
Anyway, here's an arrange I did of Ringo's theme so it sounds like it came from the older Touhou games. I've composed it as a celebration for reaching 100+ followers on a Touhou blog of mine (no longer existent) where I archived the many different instruments used by ZUN.
So yeah, enjoy.
This is honestly the most epic, most unexpected and most amusing moment I've had with the game so far. So yeah!
Also, if you guys wanna play with me, feel free to add me, although please let me know who you are before doing so. My BattleTag is Kurenai#11467.
Well, since I mostly compose Touhou-related stuff, I thought it would be time to go for something different. And so, I’ve composed an arrange of the Level 4 theme from Kirby’s Adventure, which is my fav along with Ice Cream Island.
I tried my best to convey the same sense of calmness as the original song.
Really but reaaaaally overdue commission for RelightCharge on Tumblr. It's a theme meant for his own character.
Also, this'll be the last track where I'll be listing the instruments I've used, because keeping track of them is really tedious tbh.

And to finish uploading all my musical tracks from Soundcloud to YouTube, here's one of my most recent works.
It's my theme, or the theme of Kurenai which is my fursona.
It's not really meant to be used during a battle on a game or anything like that, it's just a theme that's representative of myself.
It's tech-y and has a few sad overtones to it.
I mainly intended to compose this track so I could use it on one of my video presentations in college, but I figured that the song was going to be too distracting for me and the class, so I pretty much scrapped it and made it my own musical theme, a bit like ZUN's Innocent Treasures.

Now that I'm done uploading my old musical work, now it's time for some of my new stuff!
This is a commission for little-susu/tiny-kitten-gaia on Tumblr.
It's an intro theme for her YouTube videos, quite definitely the shortest track I've composed.
Really like how this came out, it has sort of a visual novel vibe out of it, doesn't it?
This is a commission for unovabrony on Tumblr. It's supposed to be a theme for his OCs Craft and Reaper.
I kinda feel like I've rushed this one, considering that he mainly wanted a theme that he could use for his reviews and stuff, but it didn't end up sounding like that.
There's something really off about this song, but I can't really put my finger on it...
Oh well.
Here's another old composition of mine, and also my all-time favorite tbh.
It's a battle theme I made for Duragawn, a character from my friend mistersheriffdragon on Tumblr.
It's very lively and upbeat in general, and also has that slight Touhou-esque vibe out of it, quite personally one of the best themes I've composed.
