Modustrial MakerThis episode shows how to make a bench or table from white concrete, melted crayons, epoxy resin, and plywood. Building this epoxy crayon concrete bench was a crazy project, but a ton of fun. We used all kinds of techniques - woodworking, concrete, CNC digital fabrication, pouring epoxy resin, and more, so grab some popcorn…this one was fun! Hopefully it inspires some of you to get out there and use crayons and concrete to make a bench, table, or even something else!
For the concrete mix, I used glass-fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) mix so the bench could be poured thin. We made a drip-shaped foam knockout for the concrete form using the X-Carve. This left the drip shape in the concrete. We could then pour a 2:1 epoxy resin layer in the drip inlay, before melting crayons on top of the epoxy. For the last step, we poured another layer of thick set epoxy resin (a deep pour epoxy) on top of the melted crayons. Lastly, we used the Shaper Origin handheld CNC to cut the legs out of plywood.

I used parametric design to create a bean-shaped coffee table base from plywood, which I cut out on my Avid CNC. I then poured an epoxy resin top directly on the plywood, so the plywood base would be embedded in the epoxy resin top. I also used table top epoxy to get a perfectly smooth top and bottom of the coffee table.

When I saw this log of an unidentified species of wood, that my hardwood lumber dealer just called swamp wood, I had to have it. The fluted cross section and mangrove-like side profile were both amazing. I decided to make a DIY coffee table from stumps of this log, with an epoxy resin top. I poured the epoxy resin around the stumps of wood, so that the cookie cross section of the wood stumps is exposed in the epoxy top, and the sides of the stump that form the table base are also visible. I think this woodworking and epoxy resin project came out super cool - but what do you think?

For this easy DIY staircase makeover, I show how to install maple hardwood stair treads, and how I make my own stair risers out of plywood. The star of the show is the LED under-tread lighting that is motion activated. For the LED stair lights, I installed motion sensors at the top and bottom of the staircase. I then routed channels under the nose of each stair tread, where I installed COB led strips, which are wired to and LED stair controller installed under the stairs. This is an easy DIY project that anyone can do, and makes a dramatic difference in the appearance of your stairs.

Aside from the very close call with fire, we've got a lot done and finished off the abandoned building renovation over the last few months. This is the first of the final four renovation videos. In this video, we makeover the entrywa with a green feature wall with an LED neon sign. I show how to install the faux boxwood green wall, and 3D print a custom neon LED sign, with LED strips inside of it.
We also installed a new steel door and a steel fence on the roof deck, and installed a retractable screen in the garage. Lastly, I built out stairs with stair treads made from hardwood flooring to match the floors in the living area.
This Concrete LED Chandelier / Pendant Lighting is made with new LED rope. I've been looking for an LED product like this for over 5 years...and I finally found it. I combined the draping LED rope look with the urban decay concrete style i've used previously, and I think the resulting Pendant light is pretty darn cool. What do you think?
To make this DIY concrete floating shelf, I started by carving a mold from foam. I covered the foam mold / form with epoxy resin, and then sprayed glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) to get a smooth surface. I then hand-packed the concrete back coat to ⅝” so that this shelf would be lightweight and could be hung with a hidden french cleat, since having no visible hardware is necessary.

Check out ARIAT CREW here: bit.ly/3qwD7Hb
I went all out for this one! I built this modern lean-to style doghouse like a human home...it is full insulated, with insulation in the walls and insulation in the roof and floor. I used laminate plank flooring, and made my own plexiglass window. I used Trex deck boards for the pool deck, and a stock tank for the dog pool. The stock tank pool will serve double duty, since I can fill it with ice, and use it as an ice trough for beverages when I have parties up on my rooftop. I also built a green wall with a custom LED neon sign, which was the biggest splurge of the project ($400!). I also added solar wall fans and silver exhaust fans to help with ventilation and keeping the dog house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. All in, I spent about $3000 building my dog Tex a dream doghouse with dog pool. What do you think - was it worth it?

This time I’m building an urban decay DIY concrete lamp. I’m mixing Karma’s ashes with the concrete so that the lamp serves as a tribute to him…something I’ll always remember him by. I built the concrete form from melamine, and used wet sand to create a void in the concrete for an urban decay look. I also welded a rebar frame from which is exposed between the two halves of the concrete lamp. I ran the wiring for the LED light bulb fixture through PVC pipe, then poured the concrete over the PVC, so that the wiring for the LED light would be hidden inside the lamp. To finish off the lamp, I used some basic woodworking techniques to build a walnut wood base for the lamp.

My friend Bart had this live edge wood slab just sitting out in his yard in the rain, rotting, for a couple years. I decided to save it and make a live edge river mirror with backlighting from LED strips. This was a really fun woodworking project, and is part of the master bathroom renovation at my abandoned building project. We used my CNC to flatten the live edge slab, then rip cut the live edges to form the edges of the mirror. I also cut channels in the back to the wood to create a space for LED strips to provide really cool backlighting behind the mirror. This DIY concrete ramp sink is the last major project for the master bathroom renovation (just waiting on some cabinet hardware to put the finishing touches on and do the full reveal). The sink is fabricated from GFRC concrete, as usual, but this one is a little bit extra - probably my favorite concrete sink build ever. I designed the sink in Fusion 360, and then used my Avid CNC to 3D carve the foam sink mold. I coated the foam sink mold in drywall mud (which acts as a barrier between foam and epoxy resin) and then coated the mold with epoxy resin to waterproof it and give a smooth surface to it. I sprayed the face or beauty coat of GFRC concrete into the form, and then hand packed the back coat of concrete. We end the video with the installation of the sink in the master bathroom, on top of the vanity that I build in the last video.
NEXT UP: In the next episode, we’ll be doing a 24-hour bathroom renovation challenge….the last major project I have to do before wrapping up the building!

The abandoned building roof deck needed some more green, so I build a DIY planter box from cedar lumber and white GFRC concrete. For the renovation of my master bathroom in the (formerly) abandoned building, I used a variety of tile sizes, including 12x24 large format porcelain tile, 24x24 large format porcelain tile, and a granite mosaic tile. This video shows how to do entire tile installation process for this massive bathroom. The bathroom includes a massive curbless walk-in shower, and a fresstanding tub.
NOTE: We used granite mosaic tiles on the shower floor, and I forgot to mention that I will be sealing these tiles - a must for granite in a shower!

In this episode of my abandoned building renovation, I show how to build a really simple DIY pendant light or chandelier, with no wires showing, for your kitchen island. I made the light fixture out of aluminum C-channel and welded the aluminum with no welder - just using an easy DIY brazing process. I used chip on board (COB) LED strips in the pendant light. The COB LED strips are great because they give a continuous line of light…no dots! I then used strips of acrylic as a diffuser for the LED strips, and a threaded lamp pipe to hang the light fixture and hide the wires.

Two weeks ago, I had an emergency surgery that saved my life. I had a rare type of pseudoaneurysm in my abdomen, which ruptured suddenly. The doctors almost didn't find the location of the rupture in time. I lost over half the blood from my body and was on the verge when they finally found it in the nick of time. This experience has made me extremely grateful for all I have, and renewed my excitement for everything the future holds for me and this channel, so I wanted to share this with all of you.
A huge thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and other staff at Emory St. Joseph hospital in Atlanta. Without you, I wouldn't be here today. There is no way to repay someone for saving your life, so all I can do is tell you that I'm forever grateful for the care you gave me.

As part of my kitchen renovation in the abandoned building, I wanted something to fit with the concrete countertop in my DIY kitchen island, so I built this diagonal side grain butcher block countertop from hard maple. This is a relatively easy woodworking project. I milled up the maple lumber then glued it up using my Rockler woodworking clamps. Then it was a matter of routing a groove in the countertop, so it fit into the concrete portion. I love how the warmth of the wood ties the whole kitchen renovation together.
// TOTAL BOAT WOOD HONEY: bit.ly/3v9kX1G$10,000 CONCRETE COUNTERTOPSModustrial Maker2022-02-18 | In this video, I show how to make concrete countertops for my abandoned building kitchen renovation series. To make these concrete countertops, I went out to Fishstone's concrete artisan studios, so we could see how to make ultra high-end concrete countertops, which typically sell for around $100 per square foot. To make the countertops, we used a glass fiber reinforced concrete mix. And we end the video by installing the concrete countertops in my kitchen at the abandoned building.

This is the first video in the kitchen renovation series in my abandoned building, which I just found out was apparently a nightclub just before it was abandoned. First I had to finalize the kitchen design using a 3D model. Then I had to transfer the model to Mozaik software, which allows me to make the cabinets on my Avid CNC. Then we figure out how the heck we are going to use the CNC to make all the DIY kitchen cabinets, and make the lumber run to get all the plywood necessary for the cabinets.

I was feeling a bit frustrated with the kitchen design for the abandoned building renovation, so I decided to step back for an easy win, to get my head back in the game...so we installed the baseboard trim in the hallway, and painted the new doors and trim. Once that is done, it is time for an updated abandoned building tour focusing on the finished hallway and updates to the renovated guest bathroom, which now has shower glass and mirror installed.
#renovation #BenjaminMoore #SeeTheLoveCustom RESIN Table for Ten Hundred... ++New MURAL at Abandoned BuildingModustrial Maker2021-09-30 | In this episode, we make a live edge epoxy resin inlay coffee table for @Ten Hundred from that old tree stump I found in the trash at the abandoned building!!! But will Ten Hundred like this DIY epoxy logo table??
Bonus: This DIY coffee table was made during a mega collab with @Kiptoe, Ten Hundred, and Austin from @Red Bud Builds - and Ten Hundred and Kiptoe painted an epic mural in the abandoned building garage!
RENOVATION UPDATE NOTE: this video was filmed back in August. It just took 8 weeks before my schedule synced up with Ten Hun’s so I could make delivery…. Don’t worry, I’ve been hard at work on the building renovation over the last month! :) Lots more renovation content dropping in the next 2 weeks!
So you get two for the price of one with the whole process of painting the mural in the abandoned building included as well!
We started this epoxy resin coffee table by slabbing the old maple stump. This stump was found at the abandoned building when I first moved in. We flattened the stump on my big CNC, and then did the Ten Hundred inlay by doing a layered inlay technique, using my handheld CNC (Shaper origin). If you like satisfying epoxy pours, well, this video has a lot of them! :)
