Arcade port of Galaxy Force II to the Sega Saturn released in 1998 as part of Sega Ages releases.
This version only runs at 30fps but that said, none of the other home versions were ported as well as this one due to the hardware requirements of this game. There's no extras as far as I know. Just a straight port of the game with some story element at the start/end. I show a complete run through of the game. There is also a 'Model Play' mode which is just letting the game play it self from start to end.

The Republic of Darokin in Mystara is under a terrible siege as the number of monsters and their attacks rise. A group of four adventurers step forth to rescue various areas, then are sent by the merchant lord Corwyn Linton to investigate the attacks, revealed to be masterminded by the Arch Lich Deimos. Eventually the adventurers make their way to Deimos' Tower of Doom and ultimately destroy him.

Arcade port of Power Drift released as part of Sega Ages to the Sega Saturn in 1998. This might represent the pinnacle of all the arcade super scaler games and the Saturn does a good job of representing the game although at only 30fps.
The game is fast and furious and can be unforgiving at time especially as the ai racers can seemingly travel through the scenery ...
The Saturn version contains the original Arcade mode and soundtracks, but also features a special Grand Prix mode with arranged audio tracks. The original music is good, but I do really like the arranged versions in this version.
I show two runs of the game. First Grand Prix mode and then Arcade mode (each with there appropriate sound tracks). The gameplay differs slightly in that in GP mode you take one character though all 5 championships. Getting 1st place on all tracks unlock the Extra stages at the end of the game. In Arcade mode, you take a character through each individual championship. A special stage is unlocked at the end of each championship if you get all gold medals.

Pretty much an arcade accurate port to the Sega Saturn of Space Harrier released in 1996 as part of the Sega Ages collection. If it is not clear by now I am quite the fan of these Sega Super Scaler games.
Not much to say on this one. Its just a single run through the game which runs at a smooth 60fps. No extra modes were unlocked at the end. Some secret options not shown here include being able to change the shadow strength (Saturn mode) to make shadows a little darker (from what I can tell) which might help with targeting. No arranged music in this version.

This is one of my favorite 3D space combat simulation games. A 3D spin-off of the Gradius series. It's often seen as a 3D rail shooter similar to games like the SNES Star Fox and Panzer Dragoon for the Sega Saturn. While it may not be as good as the 2D Gradius games, 3D gameplay works here.
There are 2 different versions of this game, one called Solar Assault and Solar Assault-Revised. The first version has only 5 levels. The second version (Revised) has an additional level, the lava stage bringing the level to a total of 6 levels. The US version uses the revised version of the game. The game was released exclusively to the arcades. Never ported to the consoles. Even when you do a play-through of all ships, the ending is the same. Very good use of 3-D polygonal graphics for its time which runs on Konami's GTI hardware.
For this playthrough, I chose the Lord British ship.

Sega Ages Arcade port of Outrun to the Sega Saturn released in 1996. The game is pretty much arcade accurate with numerous settings to change difficulty.
The game would normally run at 30fps, but the Saturn version supports a Smooth 60fps mode as shown in this video. Sometimes the road lines disappear when a few cars are on screen so maybe the game is adjusting it self to maintain that framerate. I also select Japanese layout as I am using the Japanese release of the game.
The game also allows the selection of Arranged or Original arcade soundtracks. I initially show the Saturn arranged music which is good, followed by a couple of the arcade originals. I show all 5 endings to the game. Nothing else appears to have been unlocked for doing so.

In flOw, the player guides a small, multi-segmented worm- or snake-like creature through an aquatic environment. The game world, which is viewed from a top-down perspective, consists of two-dimensional planes stacked vertically upon each other. A blurred version of the layer below appears in the background of each plane. Planes contain organisms of varying sizes; the player's creature automatically attempts to consume them when they are nearby. The majority of these creatures are non-confrontational and are composed of cells that increase the number of segments in the player's creature when eaten. All planes, except for the highest and lowest, contain two specially colored organisms that move the player's creature up or down one plane when touched.
This is the PSP port of the enhanced PS3 version of a game that was originally released as an indie game to play on Flash-enabled browsers. Aside from the obvious compromises in terms of graphics, everything else is the same. You don't get any game overs in this game, which makes it an excellent choice in case you want to take a break from the typical action or puzzling in many other games.

Originally released for the PS2 in 2001, with ports for Xbox (which remained Europe only) and PC that came out shortly after. This is a very interesting adventure game where time travel, all kinds of mysteries and lots of other stuff are involved. Also known as Shadow of Memories in Japan and Europe.
The plot is about a young guy named Eike who has to find out who is trying to murder him, travelling through time in the process. A bit later in the game, his female friend he met at the town cafe decides to know how the past looked like, then Eike meets some ancestors ... among other stuff that you encounter depending on your actions and decisions in some of the chapters. Not going to spoil the plot too much.
Each chapter, including the playable prologue, has a time limit (or fated hour as it's called in game) and Eike has to fulfill a series of quests before time runs out, not only in the present, but also in the past, using a device known as the Digipad (or Z-Pad in this version). I should also mention every single action, except for picking up energy chips, has a time penalty, which is why I highly suggest avoiding too much unnecessary interaction, as well as not saving in the middle of a chapter. Once you understand the gameplay mechanics, and also proper routing(s) for each chapter, it becomes a literal breeze to get all five possible endings. You just have to keep in mind one important thing in Chapter 5, which is telling Margarete about the ancestor. This action triggers one of two paths for the final chapter, leading to endings A-C where differences are at the very end; otherwise you can only get either ending D or E through another decision at the beginning of Chapter 8 (not to mention the way to complete it is different between those two subroutes!).
There are plenty of noticeable differences in this version compared to the original releases, such as a completely replaced cast for the characters' voices, a new sidequest exclusive to the PSP version where you can actually 'reunite' a loving couple, some technical compromises to adapt the game to the handheld's hardware, and slight differences in the HUD and text font. Though to be honest, they could've done a bit better job in the text part, as I found a few errors related to spacing and punctuation that aren't present in the original.
I have no complaints regarding the audio part: its soundtrack, as well as the redubbed dialogues, are pretty decent; in fact I personally prefer the second voice cast over the original. However I feel default settings for audio are a bit loud, so I had to make it quieter thanks to the powers of editing. This same issue can be noticed in the Xbox version, my guess is that sometimes the QA team accidentally ignores some small details that could be polished a bit more.
In this longplay I first went through the route that leads to endings A-C, this also includes all sidequests: giving Sybilla a kitten, saving Miriam in Chapter 6, drinking some coffee in the 1900s and of course the exclusive one related to the loving couple. Then I added some alternate outcomes, including not telling Margarete about the ancestor, the total flop scenes, Eckart's confession without his wife and the Chapter 8 routes for endings D and E. All endings are shown in order to keep it neat. I wrapped up the video with the EX chapter, which is unlocked after getting all five main endings in the main story.

A Robinson Crusoe–inspired VR roguelike survival adventure set in the 17th century. Shipwrecked on a ruthless tropical island, you must survive without guidance. Trust your instincts as you face wild beasts, nature’s fury, and a mysterious local tribe.
RUTHLESS SURVIVAL
You step into the role of Daniel, a merchant cast ashore in the 17th century and forced into a brutal fight for survival. Unprepared for the wilderness, you must trust your instincts, learn through failure, adapt to ever-changing dangers, and endure a world that shows no mercy.
DYNAMIC OPEN WORLD
A highly realistic, systems-driven world where everything reacts. Day and night cycles, weather, fire, and liquids interact in complex ways - creating endless, unpredictable challenges. The island can be explored freely. Beaches, riverlands, jungle, and other biomes offer different resources. Every interaction encourages experimentation and instinctive problem solving. You just have to be creative.
ENDURE THE WILD
Every failure is a lesson. Learn, adapt, and return wiser and better equipped each time. The island is relentless — prowling predators, violent storms, sickness, territorial threats, poisonous plants, and tense encounters with a local tribe.
No two runs are the same. Resources, weather, and dangers shift with every attempt, forcing you to rethink how you survive.
LIVE THE STORY
Uncover the past of a stranded survivor — the life before the shipwreck and the uncertain future ahead. As you explore, piece together who you are, why you were on the ship, and whether your arrival on the island is mere coincidence or something far more meaningful. There are signs of others. Whether they become allies or enemies depends entirely on you.
CUSTOM MODE
Tailor the experience to your playstyle. Adjust day length, world intensity, and survival systems to shape the journey you want — whether you crave a relentless challenge or prefer a slower, exploration and base-building focused adventure.

Super Stardust Portable developed by Housemarque and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2008 exclusively on the Playstation Store.
Super Stardust HD, the top-selling, award-winning PSN hit, makes the cosmic leap from PS3 to PSP! Rife with epic sights and sounds, Super Stardust Portable thrusts you into hyperspace with special “PSP-only” content and features, like “Impact” mode! Six planets are under attack by huge asteroid fields and diabolical enemies! And if that wasn’t enough, your original Stardust arch-nemesis, the evil mutant penguin Professor Schaumund, awaits you at game’s end with revenge on his mind!"
A portable version of the PS3 game based on the Amiga game of the same name! Whilst mostly the same as the PS3 release there are differences due to the much more limited hardware it is running on. The levels play quite differently with the intention of being slightly easier but the controls make for a much more difficult game. Due to have only one analogue stick used for movement, the face buttons are used to aim in eight directions. This makes for very sore thumbs especially on the PSP1000 with the odd square button.
The game is a twin stick shooter which has you shooting asteroids and aliens across five levels per system each ending with a boss fight. It has multiple gameplay modes with a couple more available in the dlc not added here. Each offers slightly different gameplay for scoring which adds a little longevity to the game but doesnt really add anything to the overall experience so it no biggy that it's not here. These modes were added to the PS3 game as part of the solo upgrade and impact addon packs. Impact Mode requires the use of boosts and bombs to achieve high scores through multiplier chaining. Planet mode lets you tackle and set a score for each system individually once unlocked. These are unlocked as you complete them in arcade mode which is a run through of all five systems.
The longplay is split into two videos. The first is a Casual difficulty playthrough of arcade mode which ends with a high score screen. I follow up with a play in impact mode. A second video will show playing through Normal mode which loops onto Hard mode upon completion and again in Elite mode. When starting the next loop you get to keep your main multiplier but your weapons are reduced back to zero. There are more difficulty loops to play but it is adding nothing to the video which is too long already. It's all about building a high score and flexing on the online leader boards. I end the longplay at the end of Elite mode but the extra loops are Hardcore, Suicide, Beyond Suicidal, Suicidal Overdrive, Officially impossible.
There are a few different mechanics for scoring and whilst I know them, I am mostly interested in staying alive than maximising scores. Levels can be done quick or farmed for more score but there is also a bonus based on bonus time remaining for the stage so some strategy can be useful here. I just want to get through the levels quick. The level ends when destroying the nuke that will eventually drop which is taken from endless mode in the ps3 game. Destroying the green asteroids reveals bonus points and weapons upgrades to collect and doing so with the boost raises the bonus multiplier. There is also the main multiplier for staying alive up to a maximum of ten and resets to zero if you die. You get three different weapons ideally suited to a rock type for quick destruction but you can use any. Each weapon can be upgraded by collecting the powerups dropped by green rocks. Getting to the next level allows you to destroy a bomb transport and collect the bombs to be used in a moment of panic when there is too much stuff around you.
Overall it's a good game for the portable platform but not quite as good as the original PS3 game which has more varied levels , more aliens and actual twin stick controls making it easier to play but with more difficult levels. The PSP game also has smaller levels which wrap around and don't have the same scope as the PS3 game with large planets which you orbit around. The Music on PSP is exceptional with an Orchestral rendition of the original music although the PS3 game was updates with the new music and you can still opt to play the original retro versions. It' kind of easy to feel short changed though with the extra game modes being made into purchasable dlc. Interestingly the game has been re-released on PS4/5 complete with trophy support as well as save and rewind features to help you get them.

In the game, players choose one of the six fighter planes to fight against the F.G.R. organization, who leaked information of weapons by the now-disbanded C.A.N.Y. forces. Though first released in arcades, the title was later ported and re-released through download services to other platforms, each one featuring various changes compared to the original version.
After beating the final boss, the game just loops from the level 1 again.

Psycho Fox is a video game published by Sega for the Master System in 1989. In Brazil, Tectoy released the game as Sapo Xule: Os Invasores do Brejo (translated as "Xule Frog: Invaders of the Swamp"), in which Psycho Fox and his friends were replaced by Sapo Xule (a Brazilian comic frog character), a pig, a turtle and a mouse.
One thing to note is that the game features secret warps as well. Since the purpose here is to show it in its entirety, this is a warpless playthrough.

Disney - Pixar Cars 2: The Video Game, developed by Firebrand Games and published by Disney Interactive Studios in 2011.
"SPIES WANTED. Compete against the top racers of the world!"
Nothing much on the box other than screenshots to sell the game. Maybe the big Disney cars logo on the front was enough!
A fairly simple racing game with very few tracks but broken up with some spy missions to pad the game out. The controls are quite twitchy so easy to oversteer but there is not much punishment for crashes. Each car has a special ability that can be a help or hindrance. The jump is perhaps most useful as you can jump barriers and take shortcuts but they are not always easy to navigate and can cost you more time than the normal route.
The longplay first goes through the Story mode, World GP primarily as Lightning McQueen. In between the races the story is narrated and you play side missions which I guess is the story. Completing all these races and missions unlocks a bunch of vehicles that can be used in single race and cup modes. The second half of the longplay goes through each of the cups utilising a different car each time in an effort to show them all. I end with a single race to show the final unlocked car.
At the end of the video I show the rewards screen which is complete apart from Win a round in Multiplayer and the grand master. Grand master requires unlocking themes that adds skins to the cars. Seven are unlocked via Streetpass transmissions and the others are found by winning single races in each country. Its random if you get a race, one v one, elimination and maybe a rainy day but each needs to be won once. The NDS game has spy codes to unlock everything but no such option for the 3DS.

Another game I did not know was on the master system. This version is very clunky compared to the Genesis version but it pushes the MS quite a bit. I'm surprised it plays as good as it does.

3D Classics Urban Challenge Original Arcade/Nes game by Nintendo 1984. 3DS remake by Arika and published by Nintendo in 2011. Exclusive to the Nintendo eShop.
"In 3D Classics Urban Champion, prove you're the toughest guy on the streets. Block, punch and dodge your way through opponents to force them back - and down the open manholes! Plus you'll have to contend with angry neighbours dropping flower pots and avoid the attentions of the police, too. Battle solo against computer-controlled foes or face off against a friend via Nintendo 3DS Local Play."
Arika seems to be picking some really early stuff that hasn't aged too well yet probably the easiest to make stereoscopic. Not remotely on the level of M2's Sega conversions. This one is just three screens and two figures and dragged out for 150 rounds to become the Urban Champion. The 3D works well enough but hardly a showcase title for the technology.
The game is a one on one fighting game in its simplest form. simple walk left/right whilst punching your opponent off the screen and down the manhole on the third screen to complete the level. You get three lives and it's game over if you get pushed down the manhole on the third screen. You can lean back to block or lean in to punch high or low with a quick hit or a slow hard hit to knock the opponent back. Watch out for falling plants and note that you are constantly losing stamina based on how you are knocked back and how hard you swing.
Their is not a lot to the game and its quite a mind numbing grind to become the urban champion. Their is no ending and the game will happily keep on going until you eventually succumb to fatigue and either lose or turn off the game. That said the game has a save function to continue the pain. The game starts off easy and gets progressively more difficult and really ramps up after round fifty.

I had only played the Amiga version of Pit-fighter was expecting something similar, but here they've totally reworked the game which was for the best. The game runs very smoothly and I dont think the system could have handled the Amiga game. However the controls are very limited and the fights get quite reptitive.

Based on the 2013 movie of the same name (this game adaptation came out a month before the actual film). Here, the player just has to pick up all 'coins' and flowers in order to get rewarded with three golden stars, which unlock cosmetic items for Olaf and nothing else. This game is pretty straightforward and does not need any special skill to complete, hence why it is aimed at a very younger audience. A Nintendo DS version also exists which is exactly the same thing except for some graphics that were either downgraded or removed to fit the predecessor's hardware.

Lifespeed, developed and published by Wee Man Studios exclusively for the New3DS on the Nintendo eShop in 2017.
"Lifespeed is the ultimate race for survival. Battle your galactic opponents while flying at high speed through exciting tunnels. Your planet needs you!
One thousand years ago, a Great War threatened to engulf the galaxy. The United Government was formed to stop the impending Armageddon. Now there is a new threat called Lifespeed. Instead of war, disputes about resources and survival are settled on the track. Each rider is forced to compete for their planet’s survival and for the chance to become Archon. You are Cypher Reid."
There are not many racers on the the 3DS and even fewer tunnel shooters and the handheld was crying out for a Wipeout like game making full use of the 3d effect. Lifespeed attempts to fill that void and if you were to just look at a screenshot, you would be forgiven for thinking that Lifespeed has nailed it. Before I focus on the negatives I'll just say that graphically, it does look the part and the 3D effect works quite well.
First impressions matter and the long loading times in this game doesnt fill you with confidence considering its a small eshop budget title. The games story mode serves as a tutorial of sorts requiring only a 3rd place win to progress in the later stages. There are only eight tracks with a bit of story between them and just as it seems to get good and about to conclude, completing the final race shockingly leaves you hanging, like the developers had had enough. It doesnt tell you but you also unlock The Huntar for use in championship mode if you manage to kill him in the final race. The alt ending for not killing him is at the end of the video.
Control wise, ship movement is quite sensitive with just slight button taps needed else you fly into the walls. The game auto accelerates but you have a brake button for those tight turns as well as rolls if you need a quick dodge. Boosts and weapon can be collected by flying through the rings. You can only hold one weapon at a time and weapons will be replaced if flying through a ring while holding one. The weapons are however fairly disappointing rarely able to hit the opponent or do enough damage to matter.
In the longplay, I open up with the story mode. I play on 'Chosen One' difficulty which may as well be called impossible. Whilst I get through it, it is not very entertaining as you cant really eliminate the opposing ships and its a constant fight for that 3rd place finish as all the opponents seem to be faster than you and have a habit of catching up right at the end. I follow this up with a play through championship mode using the unlocked huntar but set it a little easier in the hope of showing some eliminations. It's not to surprising that nothing special happened for completing it.
Overall it's a flawed but not bad game that could have been so much better. I quite like it's music but it somehow doesnt quite fit the game.

Steel Empire (aka Empire of Steel), original Genesis game developed by Hot-B and published by Flying Edge in 1992. 3DS Remake developed by Mebius and published by Starfish SD exclusively on the Nintendo eShop in 2014.
"Dance with bullets and shoot down the enemy in Steel Empire now on Nintendo 3DS family systems! Steel Empire is a steampunk shooter featuring frantic combat, filled with powerful enemies and insane obstacles. Enjoy a beautiful world and retro gameplay as you dodge and shoot your way through classic stages.
Choose one of four difficulty settings based on your set of skills and fight the evil empire! See how well you did using the Replay Mode and show your worth by getting all of the achievements. Original released on SEGA Mega Drive and Game Boy Advance, Steel Empire is finally available on Nintendo 3DS family systems!"
A Shoot 'Em Up that's a little bit different with it's Steampunk aesthetic and its powerup system not to mention that it is now in 3D on the 3DS. There are two ships to choose from with slightly different stats and unlike with other shooters, you can change which you prefer to use before each level starts. During play, you have an energy bar which allows you to absorb some hits before losing a life. Nothing to special there but what stands out is you don't lose your powerup level and if you are forced to use a continue, you will restart the level with your power level intact. You can level up to level 20 maximum by collecting P spheres (Three per level up). Energy refills are represented by Hearts and the blue orb is the ship support and finally B is extra bombs. You can choose to fire left or right at any time, but never at the same time. At the end of each stage is a boss fight that can be tackled in different ways with multiple hit points available. The final boss is a real pain and the fight goes on a while. Complete seven stages to reach the end.
For the longplay I first go through hard mode and then through the unlocked Difficult mode. This gives the opportunity to show the game played with both ships. Thanks to achievements I show difficult mode with no bombs or lives lost which required some save state abuse as it can get very hectic with all the projectiles and enemies on screen at once and the bosses are pure bullet sponges.
Although you cant see it in this video, the game takes place in the top layer but the background has multiple layers giving good sense of depth, probably more than Andro Dunos II. The 3DS remake does look good overall and the gameplay can be really challenging as the screen gets busy with enemies and projectiles coming from both sides at once!
