Professor Horst Teltschik gave the keynote speech during "Germany, Austria, and their relationship to Russia" roundtable organised by the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (DOC RI) and the Vienna School of International Studies, which was held at the Vienna Diplomatic Academy on 7 June 2018.
Politicians, political scientists, and journalists discussed and analysed the state of Austrian-Russian and German-Russian relations at a time of growing tension and confrontation in international politics.
The objective of the roundtable was to deepen understanding of the current state of relations, while at the same time assessing the risks and opportunities of available options: policies of escalation or policies of détente.
Professor Teltschik was Foreign Affairs Consultant to late German Chancellor Helmut Kohl (1999-2008), and Chairman of the Munich Security Conference.
