The Japanese method is to use foil and hit it with a hammer a bunch of times and then polish. I chose to go a different route and used scrap aluminum to cast a foam ball into metal and polished that. I likely could have polished more to remove some of the sanding marks but I actually like the handmade look of the scratches so I left them and now this sits on my desk!

I used quikcrete rapid cement and a silicone mold on these. Gave them a quick sand with 220 grit and they were good to go. I grabbed some cheap Christmas Bulb Ornaments from the dollar store, busted out the spray paint and tried to put a swirl on it. They didn't turn out perfect but still look cool.
For some reason I don't think the red spray paint I was using worked well with this method so I probably won't use that paint again in the future.

For these waxes I'm experimenting with different ratios of Boiled Linseed Oil and Danish Oil.
I'm hoping to find just the right ratio to make the wax firm but flexible. I'm going to try a few more times until I get it just right. I may also try it with Tung Oil in the future.

Instead of buying a new one, be dug through my father-in-law's shed to find one he's had sitting for years. It runs but doesn't pull air. This video is me trying to get it cleaned up and creating a vacuum.
The Vacuum Pump is made by Air Dimensions Incorporated, and is from their Dia-Vac line. Model Number: M01310N. The best I can tell it is a late 70s/early 80s pump. I've reached out to ADI and asked if they have a manual but no response to date.
