Then we modelled our observation to see how the sun and moon do daily circuits (orbits) above flat earth; the sun lapping the moon every 28 days. In the heliocentric model, the moon orbits the earth only once a month but really, we see both sun and moon go overhead every day. Starting from a full moon with the sun and moon opposite each other, In those 28 days, we see the gap closes between the sun and moon, the moon waning until a "New Moon", when we can't see the moon, as if the sun is in front of the moon. Then over the next 2 weeks, we see the gap between the two luminaries increase (waxing moon) until they are opposite each other again and we see a full moon one month later.To those of you that will say I shouldn't be teaching my son this, I am teaching him BOTH models and helping him visualize and understand that there is always more than one way of looking at things.
