1999 Commercial from Porsche explains that they don't actually have to release new 911s periodically they just do it because they are never satisfied.
Porsche had just switched from the last air-cooled 911 (993) to the new water-cooled ones (996), and they made sure the new ones looked like the old air-cooled ones (from the back, from the front they looked like Boxsters). Porsche would never go back to air-cooled and so later Porsches would keep getting bigger, heaver and more powerful. The back end doesn't even have the characteristic air-cooled shape (VW Beetle/911) anymore.
The voiceover is Patrick Stewart.
