This one seemed calmed considering I was standing right next to it. You're not normally going to walk up to a Western Diamondback without it putting up a fight. Wasn't until I saw the video and photos that I realized why. He couldn't see me! what looks like an eye is just a black empty hole. I'm guessing by the scar on his head, his eye was plucked out by a Roadrunner! Probably at a much younger age. He was lucky to survive. When I got on his right side he immediately struck at me and then got into the "I'm gonna kill you" stance! Honestly scared the crap out of me. I wasn't expecting that. He seemed so calm after all! Now I know why.Drive around Yellowstone National ParkEverything Outdoors NM2022-10-05 | Took a trip up to Wyoming to visit Yellowstone Nation Park. Absolutely spectacular as always. It started with 2 raging bull Bison battling it out in the middle of the Yellowstone River. It was the peak of the rut for Bison. They were fighting for their right to mate. It’s not uncommon for these huge animals to sustain severe injuries during these brutal battles. That was the case here. The bear didn’t kill the Bison. The Bison was killed by another Bison. It don’t take long for a grizzly to smell a rotting carcass. Even in a River. A large male grizzly appears out of the trees. Ready to claim his prize. But he’s not the only one. Another large male grizzly appears. Another battle begins in the middle of the Yellowstone River. The 2 bears get caught up in the current. Pushing them into the rapids. All the while ripping, tearing, biting, and clawing each other. Out of sight of the spectators. Several minutes later one bear returns. The Victor. Earning him the name Victor the Grizzly. A nice lady in Yellowstone told me the story. I don’t know if this bear is Victor, but I like to think so.2021 Shed Hunting with DukeEverything Outdoors NM2021-05-22 | Spent a few weekends up in the mountains with Duke. It takes only 18-22 days from the time they hatch to the time they leave the nest. It takes us 18-22 years. Sometimes longer! But they only live 3-5 years so that explains it. Sad I didn't capture their departure, but that's what happens when you have a real job.Mother Hummingbird Cares for Her Babies as They Prepare to Fly the NestEverything Outdoors NM2020-06-12 | Beautiful mother humming bird takes care of her 2 babies as they prepare to leave the nest. Hoping to capture the moment they fly for the first time. The female hummingbird does all the work. She builds the nest, lays the eggs, sits on the eggs for 2 weeks until they hatch. She then feeds them 2-3 times an hour, during the day, for about 18-22 days. The male hummingbird is a total douche bag! The nest is made of twigs and leaves and then bonded together with spider web. It would take about 150 full grow hummingbirds to equal a pound! We had been at this spot for over 4 hours walking around getting video and taking pictures. Just after dark I put Duke in the Jeep and went to get my camera. When I returned, after about 10 minutes, there was a rattlesnake under my Jeep. Don't know where he came from or why we never saw him before, but there he was. Lucky for Duke he didn't find him first. Both Duke's mother and brother have been bitten down in Texas. As if that wasn't enough, there was a giant Vinegaroon or Whip Scorpion under my Jeep as well. We ended up taking parts from mine to fix his. We made it after dark. Was it worth it? Not really, but it was quite the experience. The road dead ends at Peralta Canyon Trail #140. Cause of Death?Everything Outdoors NM2019-05-21 | More hiking and shed hunting with duke up in the Jemez Mnts of New Mexico. Found 1 nice elk shed under a tree and 1 nice elk dead head under a tree. Was the tree the cause of death? The part of the left antler that was under the tree is still brown. So I'm guessing, when the tree landed on it, it was fairly fresh. Maybe even alive. The broken piece was under the tree as well. It took me awhile to pry the head out. The G4 was stuck in the tree about 2 inches. Did he try to take on the falling tree with his antlers?
