Alphabet books are odd! A flood of these books were published in North America and Great Britain during the nineteenth century, and they continue to be so popular today that we’ve forgotten how odd the form is—and how irrational the rules of reading and writing in English can be.

The McGill downtown campus is situated on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehà:ka people. We recognize them as the traditional custodians of the land on which the campus now stands, and we held this event in the spirit of continuing the tradition of meeting and exchange that they established in this place long ago.
