October is the best time to plant garlic, and in a no dig garden you don’t need empty beds to get started. Here I show how you can slip garlic cloves in among existing crops like lettuce, keeping your beds productive while preparing for next year’s harvest.
I simply separate out a bulb, use a dibber to make holes, and plant cloves about 10cm (4 inches) apart. Planting on a diagonal between rows works beautifully, but in a smaller garden you might just harvest a few leaves for supper and pop your cloves in the gaps.
