Huckleberry Railroad • Baldwin #152 & Photo Day trainroomgary 2022-11-16 | In this video we will go to Flint Michigan, to ride The Huckleberry Railroad’s Steam Locomotive. All aboard for a fun trip on the #152.▶︎ Do not forget to subscribe & activate the bell to get my latest videos. ▶︎ Specifications Baldwin 152 • This 4-6-0 was built in 1920 by Baldwin for the United States Government. It was later put to use by the Alaska Railroad in standard gauging their lines and used on the ARR's Chatanika Branch until 1930. In 1943, was transferred from storage at the Alaska Railroad to the US War Department in Seattle, Washington. In 1963, the locomotive went to the Camino, Cable, & Northern Railway in California. When the line shut down in 1974, the engine was sold to the Keystone Locomotive Works. In 1975, the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission bought the 4-6-0 and restored it into operation by 1976. In 1990, #152 went back in for maintenance but resumed operating by 1994. In 2008, went out of service once more for a much needed rebuild. The rebuilding finally began with sufficient funding in 2016 slated to take 5 years but was completed July 2018 at a cost of just over $1 million. This was once the primary engine on the Huckleberry Railroad but DRGW 2-8-2 #464 took over that position during rebuilds. We all got into Train Room Pam’s car because she has the car seats for children. We began at the Troy Transit Center watching the Amtrak’s Siemens Charger from the pedestrian bridge. Next stop was the CN’s Pontiac Freight Terminal to check out the turn table and locomotives. Last stop was about two miles south at the Amtrak Service Center. We will return to the train room for a special Lionel Train Un-boxing. This station opened on January 4, 1914 and it was built for the Michigan Central Railroad. Baltimore & Ohio Railroad along with the New York Central used it for passenger service. Amtrak used this station until it was closed on January 6, 1988.The station was closed and left vacant, where it fell in into major decay. In May of 2018 Ford Motor Company purchased the building for redevelopment into their new engineering center for an Autonomous Vehicle Technology. These are self driving cars and trucks. Power output varies by model; the SCB-40 produces 4,000 hp (3,000 kW), while the SC-44 produces 4,400 hp (3,300 kW).The top speed in service as per PRIIA specifications is 125 mph (201 km/h). The locomotive shares much of its overall design with Siemens' all-electric locomotives Vectron used in Europe and the ACS-64 used by Amtrak and SEPTA. Four Insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) power inverters carry electric current to each of the four AC traction motors. A static inverter off of the main prime mover supplies head-end power (HEP). Testing at up to 135 miles per hour (217 km/h) at TTCI, on the corridors, and on the Northeast Corridor in September 2016 resulted in a federal certification for 125-mile-per-hour (201 km/h) operations.Revenue testing on the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins routes in Northern California began on May 25, 2017. The UP's Department of Research and Mechanical Standards had designed the locomotive for a specific task: to pull a 3600-ton train unassisted over the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. While the Big Boy is often cited as the biggest steam locomotive ever built, in fact it is not. The Norfolk & Western's Y6 and A, the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range's Yellowstones, and the Chesapeake and Ohio's Alleghenys were all in the same league, and some exceeded the Big Boy's weight and power. But in the battle for hearts and minds, the Big Boy won. Perhaps it was the name, simple and direct, scrawled on a locomotive under construction by an ALCo shop worker. Maybe it was timing, as the Big Boys hit the road just when America needed symbols to rally around. Maybe the UP's publicity department just did a better job of telling the world what great equipment they had. Whatever the reason, the Big Boy captured the imagination of railfans and the American public over the ensuing years, perhaps more than any other steam engine. In many ways it is the symbolic locomotive of the American West, as big and powerful as the country it sped through.This enduring symbol of American railroading returns to the RailKing line for 2011, complete with the industry-leading speed control, smoke output, and range of accurate sounds that characterize all MTH Proto-Sound 2.0 locomotives. Both engine and tender are constructed of die-cast metal and adorned with detail. Our model features two motors and four traction tires for pulling power and speed that rival the original Big Boy. Imperial features that set this model apart include legible builders plates, crew figures, cab interior light, painted backhead gauges, and a real coal load in the tender. Did You Know? Writer Henry Comstock beautifully described the Big Boy's place at the apex of steam engine history: "A Union Pacific 'Big Boy' was 604 tons and 19,000 cubic feet of steel and coal and water, poised upon 36 wheels spaced no wider apart than those of an automobile. That it could thunder safely over undulating and curved track at speeds in excess of 70 miles an hour was due in large measure to the efforts of two long-forgotten pioneers. As early as 1836, the basic system that held its wheels in equalized contact with the rails was patented by a Philadelphian named Joseph Harrison; and a French technical writer, Anatole Mallet, first thought to couple two driving units heel to toe below one boiler in 1874."
