Every year I'm inspired by the beauty of the wildflowers in the field in front of my house in northern British Columbia. The harebells (Campanula) are a mass of blue-violet and it's so beautiful, I have to try to capture it in a plein air watercolor painting.
This year I brought a larger piece of paper than usual, and in addition to my plein air watercolor kit, I added some pigment powder that I bought in Venice a few years ago, at an art shop called Arco Balena. Dropping pigment on the paper and splashing water, I let myself suspend any idea of planning and simply let the paint and the beautiful environment lead.
