"I packed my dry suit in anticipation that the Detroit River would offer open water. Today was a balmy 35 degrees, so we woke up early and just went for it. We put in at Belle Isle and paddled toward William G. Millikan State Park. Just east of the Renaissance Center which is General Motors’ headquarters. The current was moderately strong, which took some focus to make sure I didn't end up in Canada. We used the appropriate safety precautions and had a spotter the entire time. It was incredible to see the Detroit skyline from such a peaceful, quiet vantage point." — Dan O'Brien
