Latest 8mm film rescue from an estate sale: Packers vs. Bears, August 15, 1970, at County Stadium during the Midwest Shrine Game, filmed from the upper grandstand (above home plate). Over 47,000 showed up for a preseason game that ended 6-6 with no touchdowns. Bart Starr was still there, and Phil Bengtson was trying to keep the post-Lombardi years together. What makes the film interesting is its timing; Lombardi died less than three weeks later, so the footage lands right in that strange transition period where the dynasty years were clearly fading but still close enough to feel connected to the team.
And somehow, a forgotten home movie reel.. a little rough around the edges, survived nearly 56 years of basements and closets before making its way back through a projector.
