This run uses the strategy of having the party starve to death before scavenging. It also wrecks the car at the biker gang cutscene in the farmland. This run was submitted for Board Boosters in October, 2023. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
This run gets great RNG with the V6 engine very early. It uses newer strats developed by the members of the Board Boosters speedrunning community. It's faster to let the party members starve before scavenging instead of shooting them. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington

The floppy version contains a glitch that allows you to climb the cliffs while the steps are coming out of the mountain for the last four cliff puzzles. It's kind of hard though so I only got two out of four in this run and just went with it.
This run could probably go down to sub 12 minutes. Right now, almost all the runs are on the CD version so this is the 2nd world record for this category after ChuckGrody's initial run. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
The emulation software that runs the game can only obtain a certain level of accuracy with regard to how quickly Alexander runs when his speed is at max, and the settings on scummVM developed by a previous runner Urquan provide the fastest results when compared to other emulators, especially Dosbox, which was the emulator I used to get the previous world record of 13:38.
Speedrunners of this game have worked to fix the emulation to balance accuracy and competition for the game to keep things fair regardless of what your computer specifications are. The emulator contains a patch to prevent additional dialogue from Alexander while he's climbing the cliffs.
The run itself is my most skillfully played run, and would have been below 13:30 if I had gotten better luck with the cutscenes. There are many instances when things will take up to an extra second before they happen in the game. The most common of these in the run is how long it takes for Alexander to pull out the map and have the map screen show up. This run had, by my estimate, worse than 1/3 luck throughout the run, which was enough to make it just not quite fast enough for a sub 13:30. My sum of bests in this category is now 13:26.
All of the runners for this game who want to improve their times will need to switch to running on Urquan's build of scummVM instead of Dosbox. There are multiple sections where the movement results are different from Dosbox and adjustments needed to be made in the speedrun. These mostly come in the form of moving the cursor to a different position from the Dosbox run in order to get a zip, or even adding an additional movement input to setup a zip that would work in Dosbox without the extra input.
Overall this is an excellent run and I don't expect it to be beaten any time soon, unless I keep pushing it down more. I would love to be proven wrong on that.

This run also saves a lot of time over my old strategy because of the alternate final stage you can do in the DLC, which is a few minutes faster than the original ending.
I was very happy to get a sub 15 Organ Trai: Director's Cut speedrun. I should go for a speedrun of Clemens Quest. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
The Zoltan shield makes the first 7 sectors a lot more manageable and the halberd beam can help get you started to where that Zoltan shield almost never comes down. Beams and hacking are what I use to take down the flagship fast. It's possible to aim carefully to perform unintended cheeky swipes with the halberd beam and do 10 damage on the flagship, as well as help with one shotting more ships.
Needless to say a lot of luck is involved in this run. It was very lucky to get the items needed to destroy each phase of the flagship in one volley during one full level hack. Good luck is also important in the flagships attacks missing hacking and weapons for long enough to get that hack attack out. I could probably do this faster there are some VERY fast Zoltan A runs on the leaderboard, but this puts me in the top 10 for overall FTL runs so I'm pretty happy with it.

This run lost time to the game crashing early on, extra cutscenes with Markus and North during the peaceful ending, some late returns to the main menu, and many smaller mistakes that added up over time. Sub 8:40:00 without loading screens would be amazing. The world record right now is 8:39:58 on the ps4 version. This is the fastest all achievement run submitted on the PC version. Enjoy!
Retimed to be 8:44:41 without loading screens

This game has a bug that causes USB microphones to crackle while playing with mouse and keyboard. Sometimes I do runs using a PS4 controller and this problem goes away, but I had a better routed guide to use for this setup so I wanted to see how fast I could get it
This run claims to be 3rd place on the speedrun leaderboard for the category. The original disk for ps4 includes tricks that were patched out of recent versions, possibly totaling over 30 seconds of timesave that is not possible on PC. I don't know if I can go for the world record in this one, the current runner has a very competitive time that includes some of these original disk version exclusives.
The timer is paused during loading screens. The run was retimed to more accurately remove the loading screens from the time.
The time with loading screens is 2:54:17
Time without lading screens is 2:52:39 (awaiting verification) speedrun.com/dbh

Connor may be killed throughout the run, but he must discover the location of Jericho in order to make an appearance at the end. If he remains on the side of Cyberlife (Machine Connor), he can lose to Hank on the rooftop at the end and come back for the final cutscenes. In this case he looks out over a burning Detroit, which is much faster than the aftermath scenes with Connor.
In this playthrough Kara, Luther and Alice get captured in Crossroads (on the Jericho ship). This saves having to include them in the penultimate chapter (Night of the Soul). Starting the final chapter having been captured by the police leads to a faster yet more grim ending for Kara, Alice, and Luther than escaping to Canada. Some side characters are sacrificed to save them, but this doesn't take away the requirements for the Survivors achievement.
I enjoyed this run more than any% because of the more exciting story. If I were to do a run of all my favorite story paths for each character, it would look more like the first complete run of a 100% flowchart marathon playthrough (without some of the repeated chapters). That might be my run of choice in the future. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
This is quickly become one of my new favorite games.
It seems likely that hardware and lag have consequences for this speedrun, most of the fastest times are on PS4. Luckily we are allowed to retime our runs and remove loading screens from our final time which helps a little bit. I'm sure there are still other black screens that vary in time and possibly lag within the gameplay too.
There's still a lot I can do to improve my skill at this run, especially timing the reaction presses for when they show up instead of just spamming them or reacting to when I see them. Those would certainly add up to a few minutes of time save over the whole run.
I'm also interested in other categories for this and might consider doing the multi-day marathon run of completing every flowchart as fast as I can. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
Thank you to:
topkekshrek, the previous world record holder
jakijo, one of the first people to start posting runs of the game
oneshorteye, who documented the journey taken by those before me to reach world record in this run, the speedrun history video is a MUST WATCH! ***CLICK HERE*** youtu.be/6CNJ7CxwaZU
Now, I've brought the game back into my life and those feelings are coming back as well, but instead of solving the puzzles, I'm making extremely precise mouse movements and timings with mouse and keyboard clicks in order to beat the game as fast as possible. Each second I took off this time was a struggle and a true feat whenever I could get a new PB. Catching topkekshrek's world record time of 13:39 was no easy task, but I knew I could do it. It sill surpassed my expectations in terms of difficulty.
In this run a glitch is used that allows Alexander to bypass some of the game's screen transition triggers including the gnome guards in the Isle of Wonder, which are skipped by using the map on one specific turning animation frame, and again three times in the catacombs using the boring book on a more lenient frame window of turning animation. These skips eliminate the need for several items and portions of the game.
I am going to play 100% so that I can see those items and game sections next time. There is also a glitch where if you hold alt during the floor tile trap in the catacombs, you can skip it. I WILL be using glitches in the 100% run but I won't stop there, and I'll consider other categories that show off more of the game, and show it off in ways similar to how it was played by first time users in the 1990s.
I'm SO happy to hold this record, even if someone beats it. There is quite a bit of time to save, but some of it just seems so luck based. Many NPCs will randomly wait up to 1 second before beginning their dialogue throughout the game. Likewise, Alexander will wait while looking at the map sometimes. Bad luck plagues many parts of the run.
My mistakes mainly fell in the final section of the game, including some slight movement errors. I'm sure someone could come and beat this in a shorter time than it took me to get it. I really did underestimate how hard this would be for me. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington

This was a tough time to get that required exact knowledge of hundreds or maybe thousands of inputs in a short period of time with extreme precision required. Shaving 18 seconds off this could turn out to be even harder than getting a sub 14.
This game is such a staple of so many people's childhoods and I'm happy to continue pushing its legacy with a modern style of gaming that's continuing to capture more people as time goes on. We'll see how large the leaderboard for this game can get, and what runs will look like in the future.

Major time saves are left in the last two splits, and significant but not as major time saves are still needed throughout. It's looking good, sub 14 should be very soon, and who knows when I'll get a sub 13:40. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
The world record is 13:46 as of today, still 45 seconds faster than my run, and with a sum of bests only 1 second faster than my PB, there are lots of segment improvements I need to make to have a run clean enough to challenge the world record. By the time I'm able to do that topkekshrek will likely have a run a few seconds faster than his current record.
Should be fun to grind that time down. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
I'm really liking this speedrun, I'm excited to feel the flow of the input patterns you have to click and press. My estimate is that I'll have a time faster than the current WR (of 13:47 (literally obtained while typing this) before the end of this month (May, 2021). By then it seems plausible that more time saves will be found, and we'll be looking at going for 13:40 or lower. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
For real though this is just some tidying up improvements, there's a lot left to explore if I'm ever going to get a sub 14. Beyond that there are spots all over the place that are easy to improve even at my current level of knowledge so I expect to beat this very soon. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
If you are interested in speedrun documentaries, this is one you need to see.
After a 4 hour playthrough of the game to reminisce that listened to a good portion of the available dialogue in the game I decided to learn the speedrun. On my first try I still had to learn the inputs for the skips, I got the gnome skip using the boring book on my first ever try in a run that ended up being a 30+ minute run. At some point in that run topkekshrek, the current world record holder, came in to give me some strategy advice just in time. This is how I learned the Cataclypse skip easily on my first attempt as well which allowed the run to be in the 30 minute range even with including learning times for that, and several missteps in the castle.
Four more PBs later and I shaved off like 15 minutes. The new tricks made beating UrQuan's time relatively easy of course. One day I'd like to try to beat his time using the same strategies that were available to him.
Thanks so much to topkekshrek for watching and coaching me through the runs throughout my attempts. I'm very excited to grind for world record, I expect I'll get a sub 15 very soon. All I can say is, it's about time I started running this. There are still so many other PC games from the 90s that interest me still so we'll see how focused I can stay on any single game or category. -- Watch live at twitch.tv/danzel_glovington
My goal now is to get GM more consistently. I stopped playing after getting it once, so even though months passed since I first got GM, in terms of hours played it didn't take nearly as long as getting my first one, and my third GM came just days after the second and is also now my fastest you see in this video. Once I get comfortable playing for GM I can take more risks and press down faster to save lots of time and go for sub 12s.

Watch live -- twitch.tv/danzel_glovington This pizza troll level in Logical Journey of Zoombinis remake for Steam can be speedrun by getting the correct pizzas in your first two guesses. This run could be faster if the trolls accepted them in reverse order compared to this video, maybe by 1-3 seconds, because if the pizza is accepted, the other troll won't say anything. This is the second time I've gotten a double perfect pizza outcome, thus far I have never gotten a run where Arno, the first troll, takes my first guess.
Watch live -- twitch.tv/danzel_glovington This speedrun takes one Zoombini from Zoombini Isle through the Deep Dark Forest path to Zoombiniville as quickly as possible on Oh So Hard difficulty. This is done by pre-filling the campsites along the way so none of the puzzles require 16 Zoombinis to continue.
A lot of luck required to get a time like this with the bridges not sneezing, the rocks completing (I use a glitch to skip the walking animation, but it only has a 1/4 chance of working, otherwise I have to try again), and the Pizza Trolls very rarely give favourable outcomes.
This run completes the Pizza level in 3 guess, and could be probably around 15 seconds faster with two guesses. Mudball Wall might have 9 or 10 possible seconds to save. All together this speedrun could go down to below 2:40 with currently used techniques and the best available luck. My sum of best segments is as low as 2:33, so accounting for imperfect splitting, a 2:34 or 2:35 might be as low as it can go. It was fun to grind for the good luck and get a time so low without needing the double perfect pizzas.

Watch live -- twitch.tv/danzel_glovington The previous world record for this level was mislabeled for 2 years, so unbeknownst to me there was always a faster untied time, except for one thing....
The old record was done on a pre-patched version of the game where the Zoombinis moved faster and it appears to have had an effect on the speedrun for a few levels, including this one.
Using more precise clicking I was able to beat the record in spite of this issue. Please enjoy the new time of 42 seconds for oh so hard on hotel dimensia for logical journey of zoombinis untied world record speedrunning.

Watch live -- twitch.tv/danzel_glovington speedrun.com/zoombinis/Pizza_Pass#Very_Hard
This is the Very Hard difficulty of the pizza level on Zoombinis, the most well recognized level in the game from what I've seen.
This difficulty is supposed to be one difficulty easier than the hardest you can chose, but the differences make it harder for speedrunning. In Very Very hard all the toppings will be used up but in Very Hard some toppings might not get used, which will add many more combinations of possible correct guesses. The difficulty is easier because you get more tries before the trolls kill your zoombinis, but that doesn't matter when you're trying to get it in as few guesses as possible.
This run compeltes the level in 5 guesses, which is the same as the previous world record, however the middle troll accepts the first pizza, which saves some time from having to hear their dialogue each subsequent turn.

Watch live -- twitch.tv/danzel_glovington speedrun.com/zoombinis/Pizza_Pass#Very_Very_Hard
This level is probably what most people who already know about Zoombinis remember most from when they played it as kids, and then that one person who knew a bit more about it would be like, "Actually there were THREE of them and they all wanted DIFFERENT pizzas!" and that's this level basically.
On the hardest difficulty the trolls will use up all available toppings, and no trolls will take a topping another troll has. This means there are patterns where two trolls each want one topping, and the third wants all remaining toppings. That's the pattern I was going for in order to mostly likely guess all the pizzas in 3 turns.
Furthermore, the dialogue spoken by the trolls changes randomly with each game, but if they don't like the pizza, they will say something before the next in line has a chance to react. The best RNG, which was obtained in this world record, is for the first troll to take the first pizza, the second to take the second, and the third to take the third.
My previous attempt on this got all the pizzas in 3 turns, but in the wrong order. This beats the previous WR of 52 seconds by 1 second, with luckier, shorter dialogues it might be possible to get a 50 or 49, but I'm not sure.

This is my new PB for restricted category. I already had a time faster than EazySpeezy before this, but he recently showed my glitched run without mentioning it so I got a few new PBs and this was the cleanest worth uploading. When I get better PBs in more categories I'll make a more informative video about the game again.
My goal now is to get a sub 30 second run in this category before moving onto other speedrun categories for google solitaire. I think I could still get world record in all of them, but I'm not certain about that.
This category restricts the speedrunner to using only single mouse clicks without any glitches that would break the rules of real life solitaire. There is a glitch that allows you to have cards dealt before the deck deals, but you have to play on a specific link for that.

By hilarious coincidence yesterday's Liquid Ladder on the penguinz0 channel was a tier list for apology videos. This is a very important apology to Charlie aka Moist Cr1titkal for doubting his gaming skill and determination and ability to get a world record speedrun in Mr Krabs Overdoses on Ketamine
I'm excited to see such a popular entertainer get such an impressive speedrun and hope it builds interest in the activity of speedrunning and going for world record speedruns in videogames.
I took a close look at Charlie's current 18.1 second world record to show just how irregular that run is which should emphasize how difficult it will be to recreate and/or beat.
I have some opinions about the speedrun.com website decision to reject the game from having a leaderboard. No surprise to say, I'm opposed to their decision. Thanks to Ezscape for making a thoughtful video on that topic.

The thrilling conclusion to our adventure in speedrunning Mr Krabs Overdoses on Ketamine against the notorious B I G, moist that is. That's right Charlie aka penguinz0 aka Cr1tikal has fallen to our superior speedrunning ability.
The tenacity and ingenuity paid off in a final time for us several tenths of a second faster than Charlie's current pb in any% for Mr Krabs Overdoses on Ketamine and Dies the game.
Around the last minute of the video the image froze while the audio kept going. I've noticed this recently started happening when I edit using Windows photos in case anyone knows how to fix that. It was supposed to be a retime and replay of the whole run but it only captured the end bit and my reaction, so if you've read the description that's your reward. Otherwise I hope people watch through to the end because that's how you can see the speedrunning development highs and lows.

This game in fact has hundreds of categories because there's an old version, a new version, and even an android version. Each playthrough you can choose to rescue one for speed, or all 16 because you're a nice Zoombini rescuer. There are 4 difficulties and a top route and a bottom route. There are 12 stages that can all be done individually, add all that up together and you get quite a variety of potential speedruns.

My Logical Journey of the Zoombinis status as sole holder of all world record speedruns for the game is in jeopardy. ProceduralDad on YouTube has been challenging my reign and obtained world records in 5 categories for the game's original version.
He got records in the uncontested 16 saved categories for both top and bottom routes on the easiest difficulty, and he beat my world records for both top and bottom any% (where you only rescue one from a newly built group). His fifth record was in the oh so hard bottom route category in the forest, which is an impressive run to have completed.
This means I'll be back to getting world records in Zoombinis, and we'll see how competitive this new Zoombini Speedy Dad can be. So far we've managed a speedrun that is both HYPE and CLUTCH certified.
