SYNOPSIS:
Justinian of all the emperors of the Eastern Roman Empire came the closest to achieving the Renovatio Imperii - the 'renewal' or restoration of the empire. However, as astute as the Great Emperor was at bringing his enemies to heed his rule, he was unable to defeat the greatest of enemies - which wasn't even human. Yersinia Pestis - the bacteria responsible for the Bubonic Plague would - would bring the empire and all in its path to its knees and bring about its own Renovatio Bacterii.
