In 1996, the band took first place in Vancouver's 99.3 C-Fox Seeds radio contest amid 200 entries. This earned them local and nationwide popularity, and they went on to open for Pantera, White Zombie, Ice-T's Body Count, Sublime, Biohazard, Deftones, Korn, and numerous other groups. They have a song on a compilation released in 1997 on HevyDevy Records called Various - GRRRR!! - Volume 1: Extreme Music From Vancouver. It was produced by Devin Townsend. The song is titled Eyes. A multidimensional creature travels to Earth to check on Humanities progress. The creature does not like what it sees and changes the direction of time in order to remedy the problem with disastrous results. The film was photographed with 16mm and 35mm cameras equipped with intervelometers to shoot single frames of film, or timelapses. Newton was played by Jonathan Hutchings. Brian Gobbels (rip) and the Hanson Brothers, members of No Means No, as well as Hamm from Slow and Tankhog also appear in the video making it an instant classic. Joe was awarded an Academy Award as "Corniest Frontman in a 70's Cover Band" for this performance, immortalized here.

The Enigmas : Windshield Wiper / Zulu Records Cinestir Films 2022-04-15 | The Enigmas were a dynamic upbeat poppy part of Canada’s underground music scene with legendary performances until lead singer and saxophonist Paul McKenzie formed The Real McKenzies in 1992. The other members went on the perform in The Scramblers, Cane Toads, The Fiends, JP5 as well as many others.The band released two 12” EPs, the second ‘Strangely Wild’ on the Zulu Records label. ‘Windshield Wiper’ from that record received regular airplay on Muchmusic.
