This stunning take-down bowie knife is a rare collaboration knife between two of Europe’s finest Master Smiths, Véronique Laurent and Jean Louis Regel. The blade has a beautiful spider damascus pattern and a unique fuller type groove that not only follows the spine of the blade but defines as it curves the ricasso. Jean Louis Regel made the damascus steel, forged the blade, and made the handle. Véronique did the heat treatment, grinding, and guard/spacer set up on the handle. Extreme Forged Blade Performance Demonstration by Kevin Harvey, MS ABSwebmaster 2015-04-20 | The knife was forged alongside the students by Master Smith and instructor Kevin Harvey for the mock-up performance test on the last day of the Introduction to Bladesmithing course. The 5160 carbon steel blade was normalized three times after forging, had the tang annealed for drilling, was edge hardened in 22 second oil then tempered three times in the tempering oven at 210 degrees C with a deep freeze cycle after the first temper. The resulting hardness on the cutting edge was ± 57 Rockwell C. Master Smiths Kevin and Heather Harvey are the instructors at the Heavin Forge School in Belfast, South Africa offering bladesmithing courses approved by the American Bladesmith Society.
