The only real vibe I could define for this is "late-night jams to listen to on a walk through a city park."

A hard drive crash that took out most of my work from 2019-2023 left me demotivated, but I slowly worked my way back into creating again- this is the culmination of that.In terms of style, this was my first time working on anything close to the otogecore sound you often hear in a lot of arcade rhythm games. I have a lot of good friends I've made from that scene, so it was fun trying to pick apart the production techniques and instruments that are often used there!Other things I kept in mind for this: 2 Mello's blog posts on his process for Sounds of Tokyo-To Future detail how he stacks breaks to accent certain beats, and switching up the whole flow of a track if it's starting to feel stale. WangleLine also has some excellent samples, and her Data Hammer pack makes several appearances here alongside JinoBeats' INSIDIPITY sample pack as ear candy I drop in during certain sections. I've got a long way to go, but I've started getting into the mindset of actively learning anything and everything I can- that constant drive to adapt and create, in the hopes that maybe I can inspire someone in the same way. So DAMOCLISM originally started as me wanting to make something inspired by ZUNTATA (Hirokazu Koshio)'s work on the soundtracks for Space Invaders Infinity Gene, and Groove Coaster (a good example would be youtube.com/watch?v=WiID9n4GLi4). That was the original intent behind the track, but as I worked on it it sorta became its own thing, with rock elements being added. Still, the drum pattern and bass sections definitely show this origin.Speaking of the drum pattern, it was originally just a lightly edited version of a drum loop from "The Perfect Drug" by Nine Inch Nails lol. When the song got passed off to CV for arrangement and mixing tweaks, he ended up replacing it with something a lot more original, which I think fits better with the final version of the song. In October I posted an audio file of the original version in the Beatblock Discord server, if you're curious to hear how that sounded!From CV35W:heehee funny sword go brrrrrI'm grateful that DPS let me touch up the track, the whole concept of it really caught my eye when they first showed it off! My biggest contributions were really just the strings and some of the audio chops near the second half of the piece. That and audio balancing hell.

Lots of kitchen noises, some atonal choir samples, and plenty of vocal chops laid over restaurant & kitchen ambience.This is one of the few tracks where I had a really clear idea of what I wanted right out the gate- most tracks get named after they're completed, but this one started as NISENEN and stayed its course throughout the whole production process. VERY fun.Yes, the sax solo isn't part of the ingame version. Shush.

DPS brought it back up later on when we were looking at track concepts for this game, so I decided to revive it. So after two DAWs and some sample-hunting later, here we are!I've always been a sucker for rhythm games with an adversarial component to them, and Gitaroo Man in particular stuck with me due to how much parts of its gameplay paralleled Beatblock. Consider this a love letter to that game!If I got the chance, I'd love to remake this with a better guitar plugin or a live guitarist- but for what it in terms of composition, I'm happy with it!
