First Mariyung D Set Service, December 2024 Obsessed with Trains 2025-09-01 | On the 3rd of December, 2024, the first D set service commenced on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line, back then only in 8 car formations. Since then, they have run in 4, 6, 8, and 10 car formations and replaced all V and H set services on that line. Central Coast V Sets, The Final Week Obsessed with Trains 2025-06-29 | On Wednesday, the 25th of June, I took a day trip to Newcastle and back to take a ride on some V sets on the Central Coast and Newcastle line in their final week of operation. These silver workhorses are being replaced by the Mariyung D sets, with it funnily enough "never going to happen in this lifetime", due to the D sets' continual delays into service. However, after entering service on the line in December 2024, it has finally become a reality, as will soon become the same fate for OSCar H sets, with them now only running limited peak hour services along the North Shore Line and up to Gosford and Wyong, spelling an eventual end to OSCars being used on intercity lines in the near future. V sets still continue to run on the Blue Mountains Line, however it is not likely they will do so past the end of this year, well and truly ending off their service life after more than half a century of proud service to Sydney's intercity commuters.Subscribe now!
L4 Parramatta Light Rail, Christmas Eve 2024 Obsessed with Trains 2025-01-13 | The L4 Westmead and Carlingford light rail line opened on the 20th of December, 2024. 4 days afterwards, I took my first ride on the line, experiencing the new tram rolling stock cruising through Westmead's station area, Parramatta Square, and then onto the former Carlingford heavy rail T6 line, including Dundas and Carlingford station sites, closed to heavy rail just under 5 years prior.Subscribe now!
Tangara to Richmond, Boxing Day 2024 Obsessed with Trains 2024-12-28 | On Thursday, the 26th of November, 2024 (Boxing Day), Tangara T sets T30 and T90 ran along the T5 line from Leppington to Richmond, traversing the line around 4 times that day. This is a decently rare occurrence, with Tangaras not deployed past Schofields for several years now. 19/8/2024 - Sydney Metro City Opening Day Obsessed with Trains 2024-08-30 | On Monday, the 19th of August, 2024, Sydney Metro had its inaugural services on newly opened track. This new section of the M1 line extends from Chatswood through to the North Sydney area, under Sydney Harbour, into the Sydney CBD, and then on to Sydenham. It is hoped and proposed that from Sydenham it will run along the Bankstown line beginning in 2025. This $21 billion project has come after decades in the making, with a huge fanfare of enthusiasts, urban planners, and commuters all testing out the new Sydney Metro line on opening day. I was among them, filming the sights of all of the new and upgraded stations, and also taking part in a 'Metrogang' meetup organised on Instagram. It was a great day, and I believe that the new stations are spectacular, and the metro itself will offer itself as a great transport link from the northwest into the city, easing congestion on links such as cars and buses on the M2 Motorway, and the suburban T1/T9 Sydney Trains lines.
The Tekno Train, June 2024 Obsessed with Trains 2024-06-14 | In May and June of 2024, as part of annual Vivid Sydney, composer Paul Mac ran an event known as the 'Tekno Train', with K94 running 3 times every night on 'Scenic Route' and 'Tech Express' runs. The Scenic Route would go over the Harbour Bridge and onto Lavender Bay and back, and the Tech Express would loop around the City Circle, then down past Sydenham and Wolli Creek's bypass to Turrella. It would then return to Central via the airport line. Both journeys took around 50 minutes. I rode both trips on the 8th and 9th of June, one with @MrP4n. The main premise of the Tekno Train was to bring techno music and lights to the mundane tin cans of Sydney Trains, and I believe Paul Mac was successful in doing so. The atmosphere was great, and I sure hope they bring this event back in the coming years.

17/6/2023 - F1 Shunts and Yards Tour! Obsessed with Trains 2023-07-03 | my bad lol im like 2 weeks late heheOn Saturday, the 17th of June, Jolly Johnson's Rail Tours, with the assistance of Historic Electric Traction, ran a suburban tour around Sydney with red set F1, known as "Shunts and Yards". F1 traversed through the inner west from Strathfield to Central, entering the engine roads/middle tracks at Sydney Terminal, before exiting and running through the Eveleigh Maintenance Centre. The set then exited onto the Illawarra mainline, down to Hurstville and into the Mortdale Maintenance Centre. Following that, the train clunked south, down to Cronulla and it's stabling facilities. F1 then climbs back up towards the city, passing over the sunsetting Harbour Bridge (possibly for the final time!), and into the Lavender Bay Car Sidings, welcomed with the neon lights of the city and Luna Park. The set then returns to the Waverton neck, before trudging up the North Shore line to Hornsby. F1 finally returns to Strathfield via the Northern line and the Meadowbank bridge, concluding the tour and returning to Flemington Maintenance Centre. The tour was also jam-packed with enthusiasts, conversations, music, and even a large raffle with great prizes, overall being a pleasant and wholesome tour.Subscribe now!

Obsessed with Trains 2023-04-17 | "worst s set tour in history"K98 rattled through the majority of Sector 3 (northwest, western, north shore, northern lines) on Sunday, the 16th of April, 2023. S28 was originally intended for use on this tour for annual reaccreditation, but due to mechanical issues at FMC a few days prior, this was not possible. Nevertheless, the tour was enjoyable, with many activities available throughout the day, such as looking in the cab/s, a short-lived game of trivia, shenanigans involving the PA system, and of course, entering the Hornsby Car Sidings.Subscribe now!

Obsessed with Trains 2022-09-26 | On Sunday, the 25th of September, 2022, 3801 and 8649 hauling 4 heritage carriages travelled across the Harbour Bridge, Lavender Bay, the North Shore, and the main north T9 line. F1 also operated in the Lavender Bay area throughout most of the day during this time. Sydney Trains - Dusk at Croydon Station, September 2022 Obsessed with Trains 2022-09-24 | Several fast, local, and slow trains spotted at around 6pm on a crisp Spring evening at Croydon station in late 2022. Rolling stock observed includes: "OSCar" H sets, "Tangara" T and ex-G sets, and "Waratah" A and B sets. Unfortunately, the classic old K and "Intercity" V sets were not seen in this video, due to it being a weekend, and/or trackwork on the lines they ran on. This footage was taken while waiting for the "Port to Port" S set tour's final leg, passing through about 20 minutes after I arrived there. I saw it at Town Hall, Sutherland, Woonona (which was originally planned to be Scarborough), and Croydon. I also completely missed shots at Strathfield, Thirroul, and Homebush, whether it be by my own fault, or some stupid timetable fault by Sydney Trains or the S set skipping stations without notice. This tour was a sombre disappointment for me and several others, with factors like weather, bird strikes, delays, bad shots etc. ruining the otherwise great day. 31/8/2022 - Suburban V set! Obsessed with Trains 2022-09-01 | On Wednesday, the 31st of August, the RBTU imposed yet another 4th-generation train ban. Because of this, suburban frequencies were running low, so Sydney Trains deployed a 4-carriage V set on the suburban T9 northern line to cope with the line's capacity. As far as I'm aware, V sets have never stopped at most Northern line stations for passenger use in history, making this a very rare and unusual sight. Sydneys Suburban Trains Obsessed with Trains 2022-07-15 | This short film contains a collection of videos filmed at Warwick Farm, Fairfield, and Minto in South-West Sydney, of Sydney's only remaining silver suburban sets. Assisted by the Rail, Tram, Bus Union's ban on privately-operated rolling stock, the only trains seen in this video are the Silver K sets. Built from 1981 to 1985 by A Goninan & Co, located in Broadmeadow, these sets were the first suburban trains in Sydney to receive headlights and air-conditioning. They have served Australia's biggest city for decades, being run by the State Rail Authority, CityRail, RailCorp, and finally, Sydney Trains. However, with new "Mariyung" D set interurban trains pushing "OSCar" H set trains to suburban running, the old K sets may not much life left in them. 4/7/2022 - RTBU Horn Day! (again) Obsessed with Trains 2022-07-05 | On Monday, the 4th of July, the RTBU held another horn day, similar to the one in December, 2021. I went with griffin rails to Sutherland, Mortdale, Penshurst, and Edgecliff to get Tangara horns. We were quite successful and had a good time, despite the extreme rain and wind across Sydney. I apologise for the late premiere, I rested for 3 hours after I got back from the trip instead of editing, because I was exhausted, and my computer also decided to corrupt one of the files when it finished exporting, throwing a full 30 minutes to waste.
