Mario Maker 2 (Versus) - Destroying Kids Online KingAlεx 2020-07-31 | A compilation of clutch, lucky, and funny moments. I haven't played this game for a few months and have since been kicked off the Worldwide Top 100 due to inactivity, but I had these clips (any many more) saved on my Switch. Unfortunately, a lot of great moments didn't get recorded because I was too lazy to make space for more memory. I definitely don't claim to have been the best player ever, there are probably at least a dozen or two now in North America that have improved and surpassed me in my absence. Just thought I may as well upload these fun clips while the game's still somewhat relevant. I don't plan to play this party mode in its current state ever again. The point system above 6k is ridiculous and there's too much randomness within terrible levels, lag, and toxicity. The "waiting at flag" meta (where you've expected to wait at the flag for others so they lose less precious points from their overall ranking) these days has morphed into something incredibly toxic and is such a double-edged sword, where you're damned if you do (people try to steal from you and often won't return the favour) and damned if you don't (regardless of the reason, people spam "Thanks!" and talk shit about you to streamers or elsewhere). FYI, the moments I didn't wait at flag in this video would have been due to nerves, low ranked (A ranks or below) competition, or toxic players in the group. The on/off spike block level was particularly satisfying because some jerks kept spamming the on/off switch at the beginning for so long. Had to time my jump around their idiocy. Mario Maker 2 (Versus) - The Dark Underbelly KingAlεx 2020-03-25 | From unfinished lanes in "four player levels" to enemy spam, dark levels, off-screen enemies/obstacles that randomly appear after you've committed to a jump, random physics/crushings, terrible players in last spamming on/off blocks, toxic players trying to steal your win when you generously wait at flag, idiot players body-blocking you/dragging you down with them, unexpected lag spikes, etc, it's certainly obvious why every top player has a love-hate relationship with this mode.Like my last video, these are just a few choice clips, impossible to record everything that happens. Not proud of my salty "Thanks!" at times, but we're all guilty of that, haha. Rainbow Road Ultra Shortcut Advice KingAlεx 2020-03-06 | Where to begin with this one? For starters, I haven't made any attempts at the glitch since my last related upload posted almost a year ago, "The final obstacle." The raw footage at the start of this video is from one of those very attempts. Why did I stop trying? I've been busy with life and when I have time to play, I'd rather play rPG. Furthermore, I use pause buffering for the method in this video, which was banned by mkwrs around the same time as when I did the majority of my attempts (maybe a little before or after, can't remember): the final nail in the motivation coffin. ***Not all my attempts used buffering, only the ones using the method in this video***So, why am I releasing this now? Recently, more people have begun going down blind attempt path I took and I thought I might be able to save them some time. I can safely predict that the old glitch method, Estaloy's method, will probably not be done in an RTA. Without going too much into the details, I found that it is simply too hard to get the distance required to hit the KCP along with a high enough, proper spindrift, as well as a high enough bounce. That said, I've never successfully pulled off the glitch myself with the method in the video, but it seems to come damn close and might spur new ideas (or even work itself!). I've tried virtually every other combination of inputs/methods in addition to this one and Estaloy's, but this one seems to have gotten me the best results.Now as for my method in this video, inspired by Malleo's Flap TAS. Why is it pause buffered? Because the method requires insane precision and timing. Allow me to explain:1) Landing behind the gate is simple enough; you'll need to learn the proper angle and shroom timing. Funky must be facing straight when you land. Angled to the left or right and your spindrift won't work properly.2) You must wheelie immediately upon landing and spindrift right after (FYI, my attempts were done with Nunchuk). I pause immediately after I wheelie, then buffer a hard right input on the joystick. While still buffering hard right, I then hit accelerate and drift AT THE EXACT SAME TIME to unpause, hop, and begin my spindrift. While in mid-air I maintain the hard right for about half a second, then hit a diagonal angle exactly between hard left and hard up for a few frames, then a diagonal angle exactly between hard right and hard up, then pause once more, all while still holding my drift button.3) This is where I start scrolling through the pause menu. While paused, I talk myself through next steps and buffer at a diagonal angle exactly between hard right and hard up on my joystick. This results in the scrolling through the pause menu. You might be wondering: how do you maintain your spindrift after you unpause? While still buffering between hard right/up with the joystick, I scroll until I'm hovering over "Continue Game", then I quickly hit accelerate (which continues the game and maintains my acceleration once unpaused) and drift AT THE EXACT SAME TIME (which ensures my drift isn't broken by the pause break). If you mistime your inputs and get sort of a flaccid, weak bounce, that means your spindrift or acceleration was broken, or you didn't hold right at the end the spindrift in time.4) I continue to hold my drift and diagonal input while hitting the road. In the raw footage at the beginning of this video, I did not tilt back after bouncing, though you should like in the video's last clip. You are supposed to release your drift very shortly after getting your bounce, then tilt back. The final obstacle of course being getting enough height to go over the out of bounds planes between the roads.5) Shroom use is self-explanatory. Shroom #1: gets you behind the gate in a proper position so that you may jump far enough backwards along the track with your spindrift to hit the KCP, Shroom #2: ensures you are at max speed throughout the whole jumping/bouncing process, Shroom #3: maintains max speed while you get across the gap. Can all this be done without pause buffering? Definitely, but buffering makes it considerably easier. This method is absolutely not foolproof. The most common way to fail is by hopping too far left during your spindrift and clipping back onto the road from the left side of the fence, not getting a big enough bounce, or not getting your wheelie out in time after Shroom #1. It's also worth noting that the attempts in this video just barely missed the KCP. You need to land somewhere between the third and fourth stars on the gate after the star post to hit the KCP if I remember correctly. There are a few other pitfalls but I'll let you find them organically :)Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything in this description. These have just been my findings from hours of throwing myself at it. This is the scientific method I've come up with. Whether or not it leads to success, we'll see. Hope this helps, good luck! Mario Maker 2 (Versus) - Achieving Worldwide Top 100 (6000+) KingAlεx 2020-01-17 | Unfortunately I didn't record many games after achieving S rank months ago, but I had a ton of hilarious, amazing, and clutch wins to finally achieve my goal of cracking the worldwide top 100 and joining the elite company that have a 6000+ Pink S+ rating. At 32%, my win to loss ratio isn't amazing compared to some other Pink S+ players, having taken almost 4-10k matches to reach and really solidify my normal S+ rank (5000+) while I goofed around, learning the ins and outs of this game/mode (it later only took 500 games to reach S+ on my smurf account, haha). I had about a 1:4 win to loss ratio upon first achieving S+, but had to really step it up to get Pink S+ having close to a 1:1 win to loss ratio, if not better.Most of the clips in this video were some of the funnier moments from when I was still a toxic A rank (like everyone goes through!). I certainly grew out of those ways since and waited at flag whenever I could. If I included every epic moment, every sad moment, every ridiculous death to lag or off-screen enemies, etc., this video could have been hours long... There's a clip of me "daring" to play my first game after finally achieving S+ (5000+) and then, the Link game which took me to Pink S+ (6000+) for the first time, months later. Toddette in the final clip = this game and how I now feel about it. Requiring better than a 1:1 win to loss ratio just to barely climb, I won't be grinding past 6000. You guys that do are nuts! Most probably won't see this video but I want to thank all the amazing people I met and played with over the past few months. The final obstacle. KingAlεx 2019-06-11 | Well I'd say this video just about puts an end to the debate of whether or not this is actually viable in an RTA. I've had tons of attempts hit the out of bounds patch since my last upload, however, these two were probably my best/favourite so far given how close they came and the shock value they produced at the time. These are probably the two closest attempts any player has gotten (to my knowledge).I can get similar bounces, maybe a bit worse, to these roughly every thirty minutes or less now. This consistency was the result of well over 100+ hours of sitting down and grinding attempts without TAS, learning through trial & error by myself what exact inputs are required every frame of the way to do this in real-time. I'm fairly certain nobody will pull this off simply by doing blind attempts or with sheer luck. Especially not consistently. Damn Out of Bounds KingAlεx 2019-05-26 | Would these have cleared the gap without the OOB planes? You be the judge. Watching Rosalina drop like a rock once I hit the OOB in the last two clips is pretty funny/indicative, though it's hard to tell exactly when I hit it.Either way both landed the spindrift just before the KCP so the laps wouldn't have counted, but clearing the gap would be an achievement in itself.
[MKW] DS Yoshi Falls 58.872 KingAlεx 2019-05-04 | Another classic KingAlex PB (PB'd by 0.001). Overall it was a pretty average run. The transition into lap 2 and the following shroom cost a ton (my fault) as well as the air exiting the waterfall lap 3. That unfortunate air more than likely cost an easy 2nd worldwide, but I'm happy I didn't choke and got the MT out as fast as I could. That final straight lap 3 where my 873 and 872 runs overlap makes me lol.Fun fact about this run - I was recently inspired to try this again a couple days ago after seeing Jascha get his amazing time on rMR. I also tried playing with a muted TV like him for the first time last night. Not sure if it made a difference but I did PB fairly quickly. Probably just a coincidence though.Anyway, I still think this track is the best in the game - it's the perfect combination of skill, luck, and timing. However, I'm not really interested in pursuing WR.

Since then, Flame Runner has dominated the course due to the difficulty of this track. And yes, doing the turn after the shroom with one wheelie is faster (first used by me) unless you have the absolutely optimal alignment going into the shroom, in which case, two wheelies is better.Took a 15 minute break from rPG yesterday and somehow beat the best (known) Spear split here by about 0.070 after not playing this for weeks, so I decided to play it a bit more and stream some attempts. Thanks to the guys that supported me and saw this run set live.Lap 1 & 2 = 2019 quality, Lap 3 = 2008 quality. I have a feeling this run will be beaten soon (well, it definitely won't last 8-9 years!). The second run in this video failed due to a random bounce/wheelie lock just after the blue ramp.

[MKW] DS Yoshi Falls Lap 1 BKS (19.582) + WR Fails KingAlεx 2019-03-03 | Tried this track again for the last couple days, got several 59.0 and a few more 58 second runs (58.987, 58.960 & 58.934), all of which had huge time losses in them. Also had several WR fails due to missing the stick lap 3 that were more or less around the same pace as the ones in this video. Didn't bother recording them though or even finishing the runs in some cases.Honestly, I can get 58 second runs each session now quite easily but stringing together three actually good laps is just pure chance. The amount of runs I've lost lap 3 due to not sticking is depressing, haha. The stick fails in these two runs admittedly had very risky entries ("kamikaze" attempts) but it's what's required at this point.It was fun to play this for a few days but I will probably stop as it's becoming tedious and giving me blisters again. Oh, the previous lap 1 best known split using the MT was 19.608 by myself & Braixen. MT BKS are now lower than non-MT.

This run is the second fastest Spear time here I believe behind Mick's old 1'16"529. Fastest on the CTGP for sure. I've never really tried Flame Runner here but with Spear, this track is legit worse than Yoshi Falls. The lows, moles, cows, bounces, final turn, unwanted wheelie locks & slipdrifts, etc. I find the mole lap 3 after the low jump especially annoying, lost several great runs to landing in his stupid dirt path... Spear can definitely sub 1'16 and WR, but WR would require an insanely lucky run. I've actually failed several 1'15 runs myself lap 3 (some of the ghosts are on the CTGP if you want to race them). Oh, and thanks to Brett for teaching me how to soft drift here haha.The run: Decent run, HORRIBLE final turns lap 2 & 3. While playing I remember thinking "don't pull a Mick lap 3" (miss the final MT) and it resulted in me getting a super wide turn and slow MT, which was ultimately the reason I didn't beat him...The 25"322 lap: Decent lap, the fastest lap one with Spear so far I think (beats Mick's 25"325). It had a pretty bad first half but an amazing second half. I can actually offscreen it up until the turn after the blue ramp.Hopefully this video encourages more people to try Spear on this track.

Honestly this track is a lot of fun, I love the theme, and can do much better (especially lap 1), but I will not be pushing for the BKT because 1) the BKT here is extremely strong, even for a CT and 2) given how haphazardly custom tracks can be updated/removed from the pack, grinding them to the point where they become unfun seems silly.

[MKW CT BKT] SADX Twinkle Circuit 3:00.175 KingAlεx 2018-10-29 | Even though this is a CT I'm extremely happy with this run! It was the best pace ever entering lap 3 and beat my previous BKT by over half a second. I'm still surprised I didn't bottle it.The run was driven very well overall (used Nunchuk again) minus the shrooms lap 1&3, but I don't mind those mistakes as this track is super inconsistent, long, and messes with your head. Good luck to anyone that tries to beat this!Also, I reused the same song as in my previous BKT because I felt it fit so well.

A bit upset how my long rYF grind came to a close but looking back, I am amazed I managed to not only achieve my goal of subbing 59, but actually subbed dozens of times, and even hit two 58.8 runs with only 2/3 bridge sticks. Was a crazy time filled with many highs & lows in all honesty.
[MKW] SADX Twinkle Circuit 3:00.786 KingAlεx 2018-10-05 | Note: I have beaten this BKT, see my other uploads.Thoughts on this run after it first happened: This is the first and likely last CT I will ever play, unless another track really catches my eye. I only played after discovering it some days ago because of my love for SADX and because beating Cole's 1.5 year old BKT seemed like a fun challenge. I didn't bother watching any ghosts besides Cole's, however after a bit of testing, I discovered that this alternate shroomspot saves a good amount of time over his. Though, it's much harder to do and makes the final bumps much harder. This track is very bouncy and difficult to tame, it's like Yoshi Falls on steroids. The run itself can be much better as my best splits give 3'00"1. The first half of lap 1 in particular was painful to rewatch, haha. Hardest part to do consistently by far is the turn before the first right angle, which I got wrecked at during lap 1/2 (lap 1 got no air, lap 2 went too wide) and Cole happens to do extremely well lap 2/3. I'm happy with the 3/3 good shrooms and 2/3 chains on the final bumps though. Missing the chain on the bumps lap 3 cost around 0.15-0.2 but it's quite hard to time. I also switched from GCN to Nunchuk for this track - it made most of the turns/fast wheelies considerably easier. I definitely find the Nunchuk to be the better controller overall, however, timing chains can be INSANELY frustrating, especially when playing in a noisy environment.
[MKW] Rainbow Road Ultra Glitch Attempts KingAlεx 2018-08-28 | These attempts were all done without TAS/Pause Buffering (these aren't all of my attempts, just some of the better ones as I tested various inputs without any help). I have tried virtually every combination of inputs, spindrifts, landing positions, jumping positions, timings, etc, but I cannot for the life of me get a bounce like the TAS. A couple attempts were close but hit a random, unexpected out of bounds patch. I've studied the TAS as well as my attempts for a long time and cannot come up with any logic as to what exact inputs need to be done to get the proper bounce/alignment in an RTA. If you have any advice, please let me know. Not like "you need to spindrift better", I mean like what exact inputs need to be done to the nth degree. Estaloy if you're reading this, please message me on Twitch or something haha.For now, all I can say is this is one fucking precise glitch which you don't fully appreciate until you try yourself. It's considerably harder than any other glitch or strat - coming from a guy who has adopted more new strats/glitches than probably anyone in this game.

Brings me back to 2011 when I tied Sword on Mario Circuit, exact same feeling...Either way, huge shoutouts to Braixen (tied WR holder) and Blaze for keeping me motivated to play whether they knew it or not. Late 2017, we all set a goal: beat Cole's 4.5 year old WR (the longest lasting ongoing WR at the time). And amazingly, we all did, forming a new top 3. Kind of cool to think about.Also, shoutouts to other guys with huge potential here like David, meteor, Riz, etc. that have been nipping at my heels, secretly making me scared and causing me to focus harder haha.

The track is now essentially locked behind this bullshit strat. To put it into perspective, the lap 1 in this run is over a FULL second faster than Niyake's previous WR (19.057). Before this strat, I was able to successfully get onto the rock with a perfect start about once or twice per minute (every 2-3 attempts). And now, if I'm lucky, it's about once or twice every several HOURS. It's insane. I recall Sword recently saying something like: "Basically every track in Mario Kart Wii has a strat now where you just wonder how the fuck it became a thing that's required." Well, now GV has one too (if it didn't already). The run:I was really hoping to hit a much better time on my first sub 19 with this strat... as in, at least a low 18. But I guess I'm happy. I don't believe in hoarding WRs so I felt I had to share this run. Splits:Lap 1 - 7.531 - Very good but still improvable (-1.157 seconds vs. previous WR)Lap 2 - 6.232 - Trash (+0.496 vs. previous WR)Lap 3 - 5.131 - Trash (+0.498 vs. previous WR)= 18.894 (first ever God time. God time = 19.0 or below)Bear in mind that the previous WR's lap 2/3 splits were VERY solid. I was clearly nervous after lap 1; every time I land the first shroom now I become seriously nervous. Sub 18 is definitely doable but the new strat makes it difficult. About this new strat:I analyzed Malleo's TAS run and in less than an HOUR of blind attempts, I actually got it (though I was so shocked I promptly drove straight into a wall, then off the ledge). The hype was real, but I didn't know what I had gotten myself into... SEVERAL hours, many days, and MANY fails to get on the rock and stick later (I'm talking, thousands of runs over and over, restarting after failing the strat every 5 seconds. Basically, a living hell.), I eventually managed to gain a working understanding of how the non-TAS version of the strat actually worked and what EXACT alignments/inputs were required. I did not come up with the TAS version of the strategy myself, however, I am the first to use a non-TAS version and to actually set a WR with it. It requires very precise alignments and inputs which I had to teach myself through trial & error. Getting air during the shroom is one thing, actually sticking to the rock and jumping from the stationary position on the rock is a whole other can of worms. I kept track of my fails before hitting this run. For those interested, here's the final tally:Runs where I got TOO MUCH air and flew over the rock directly into the lava despite a good alignment - 215. Jesus Christ.Runs where I actually stuck to the rock without crashing or getting too much air - 18Runs where I stuck to the rock and didn't immediately crash into the left wall or fall directly into the lava on the right while jumping out of the stationary position - About 5Runs that I actually finished properly of those five - 4 (19.7, 19.6, 19.5, and 18.8; the three 19 runs had huge fails during them due to nerves) Four completed runs out of thousands of attempts. Granted, many attempts were spent figuring out alignments/inputs. All completed runs are uploaded to the CTGP.- A Journey through Time -2009: I beat Niyake and took the Grumble Volcano World Record for the first time. He took it back in 2 days.2010: I beat Niyake using my innovative lap 3 final shroom outward drift ending strat. He copied my strat and took the WR back in 3 days.2012: With no time to play the game seriously, I revealed another massive time saver; the utilization of the 2nd shroom (used lap 1 right after getting on the rock). Niyake took my strat and improved the WR until he hit a seemingly solid time of 19.300. That time lasted over 5 years, untouched, unchallenged.2017 (January): Realizing how ridiculous it was that his 19.300 had lasted so long, I decided to dust off my controller and have at it. I beat his 5+ year old time. He unretired, emerged from the shadows, and beat me with an insane run, this time in 54 days.2017 (May-June): Around early May, I attempted to beat Niyake again. But despite some great runs, I realized that like Niyake, I'd also need a very lucky, very insane run to take back the WR... I quickly lost interest. I briefly streamed WR attempts for about a week and Sam suggested I try the TAS starting strategy. We all laughed it off. A week or two later, I decided to try it out. And I actually got it. I really paved the way on this one for Niyake, again.

[MKW - Former World Record] Grumble Volcano 19.259 KingAlεx 2017-01-15 | Well, throughout my time playing this game, I achieved many WRs and came up with many new strategies/glitches; many of which have been long since forgotten. I also created many early TAS runs which I hope helped pave the way for today's (much better) TASers. I quit playing altogether several years ago and made peace with this game... except for one nagging issue. I noticed Niyake's WR of 19.300 on this track was almost 5 years old... almost 1800 days old at the time this video was made. That's ridiculous. With my potential on this track, how could I let Niyake get away with that? So, I decided to finally sit down and grind it out. I didn't post any of my PR progress, like usual, except for telling Brett. Because let's face it, everyone needs a venting outlet in this game. I like to just come out of nowhere and surprise people. Many weeks ago, I hit a PR of 19.317 - 0.017 off the WR. After hitting that time, I failed MANY WRs runs, often on the final turn. It was extremely discouraging and I VERY nearly gave up. This track is deceptively simple and is so technical. I don't want to get into the details but getting good laps with good transitions is brutal. This run in particular had amazing lap transitions and pretty good driving. Lap splits were: 8.728, 5.844, 4.687.PS: "@WUT" (Washed-Up Trash) tag was inspired by Sword/NMeade, who I first saw using it some months (maybe even years?) ago.Edit - This WR lasted 54 days before Niyake came out of the shadows and crushed it! :) :(
