I’m not dead 🎉🎉I actually made this cover for one of my uni assignments a few weeks ago, I never actually had a plan to upload this anywhere, I was just going to keep this thing sitting in my computer as soon as I was done lol. But then I saw the Wicked movie yesterday, and got really, REALLY inspired. So I polished up the mix and tuning a little bit, then made a quick simple video, all in under like, 5 hours. I’ve still got uni finals coming up, so I didn’t want to make anything too complex or time consuming. Besides, I think a simple lyric MV works best with this kind of song. Less is more and all that.I’ve been listening to Defying Gravity since like, forever. I think this song altered the chemistry in my brain in the best way possible haha. I also wanted to try Synth V’s Cross-Lang, English is something I’ve always wanted to do more of, but I always found it harder to tune compared to Japanese, and especially with Synth V AI banks. Luckily, raidergale’s SVP already had pitchbend tuning I could reference, so that was very helpful. Tuning Teto in English is painfully tedious, but kinda fun. Super sorry for making you guys wait so long, I've gotten super busy :(It's been a while since I last looked at my statistics, and like, OMG???I mean, 4.5K subscribers, and Lagtrain reached 1 million views a few days back. That's like, HUGE.I guess this would probably serve as my milestone video, I am totally FLOORED with how much positive feedback I've made from my silly singing robot covers.This was a whole lot of work, but it's pretty worth it to say thank you to all the people who decided to subscribe! The idea of getting 1 million views, heck, even having more than a thousand subscribers was something I never even thought of, and yet here we are!!!I began working on this cover a month ago, a week after YOASOBI's original MV for it came out. The first time I gave it a listen, it got me hooked immediately! Super convenient timing too, I've had a surplus of extra time since the super intense heat from where I live basically forced my school to switch to long-distance learning again. The heat totally sucks, but now I get to stay at home more, so I just knew I had to make a cover of it because of all the ideas that were just swimming in my head just thinking about it.I made the decision to pitch down by -3 to better fit Paul's voice. I needed a way to make my cover stand out and be unique from all the other bajillion covers, so this is what came to mind!Making the UST from scratch was way more trouble than it's worth, I mean, the song changes tempo 3 times, there's rap in it, and triplets??? Feels bad man.I haven't even seen Oshi No Ko yet, and I probably won't be watching it anytime soon, but the song's catchy enough for me to dedicate this much effort lol.I didn't go into this totally blind tho, I did read this short story that was the inspiration for the song. It's an interesting read, and it's how I got inspiration for some of the design choices and motifs for the video!It's "45510: A short story by Aka Akasaka".Go check out some translations online, it's in Japanese and Google Translate doesn't make it any easier to read.Making the cover was hard enough, but the video? ABSOLUTE PAINNot gonna get into it, but just know I spent 2 weeks on the video, half of those days were spent trying to figure out how to fix render issues and technical difficulties that just keep popping up. After Effects is pretty clunky, but I guess that's what happens when you're working on a laptop with only 14 GB of RAM :(Experimenting with new effects and stock photos was fun though, definitely something I learned a lot from.To anyone wondering why I take so long to upload anything, here's a few things that I've been up to:-I’m applying for university, hoping to take up and study BSEMC (Multimedia!). I chose DECTalkPaul instead of Defoko because there's already too many covers with her, also because I just realized there aren't anymore new Moonbase Alpha covers and I just thought "Why not?".It's also because the retro aesthetic fits DECTalk's sound. Makes mixing the thing really hard because I kept trying to make it sound as clear as possible like I'm accustomed to. During my whole hiatus, I've managed to reach 700 Subscribers! I can't believe I've managed to reach such a goal within like, 6 months, it's crazy. Part of the reason this took so long is because I made a cover from the Giga-P Remix, but didn't quite like it, so I scrapped it and made my own instrumental. But that would've taken me a week and I needed to get on with my life jbbvqklhbqlrkb. I found V-Nane P's remix which was perfect for what I was planning to do, but then I realized there was no UST for it, so for the first time in my life I made my own. Luckily, it doesn't change too much from the original and I had V-Nane P's VSQ as a base to work on. Needless to say, it was limited, but I made it work. I used every free Effect Pack I could get my hands on and just went bananas on it. Filmora didn't like that, so it kept crashing every time a firework effect came up. Unfortunately, I had to downgrade and keep things as minimal as possible. I tried my best using the program to it's fullest extent.I also learned how to use Wallpaper Engine so I could use it for future videos, surprisingly easier than I thought, y'all should try it for yourselfIn regards to the song, I never planned on covering this song, but I was scrolling through Twitter and found the most beautiful interpretation of Boyfriend I've ever seen. That same day, I was binging wallpaper animation tutorials because I was bored and an idea popped into my head.I got impulsive and asked Artzy whether I could use their artwork for my cover and got their approval. Not only that, they literally redrew the whole thing just so I could animate the art better and I'll forever be grateful for that ahhhhhhhh. They were so kind and very understanding with this little project I devised, if everyone were this nice, there'd probably be less strife in the world.So to return the favor, I've been putting all my attention and love into this cover, I wasn't really confident in my tuning, but all that pitchbending in UTAU helped prepare me, and I just did the best I could!It was a whole lot of effort, but it was worth it to give thanks to all the people who decided to come watch what I do in my free timeThank you for 700 subscribers! If you didn't know, Pico's UTAU voicebank sounds like a man with lung cancer singing while gargling water. It was a challenge getting him to sound somewhat like his "normal" voice but I think I did a pretty good job with the mixing for him to sound good.
