Host Alistair Cook rode the head end from GCT to its first stop, with architect Eliott Noyes and TRAINS magazine editor David Morgan providing additional commentary. After the train departs the program moves to inside A tower, the dispatcher's office, and finally a ticket booth, before joining Cooke onboard the head end of the train as it was making its first stop.
Yes, this was a live broadcast. Given the primitive technology of television at the time, I can't imagine the logistics, co-operation and organization of trying to get everything "right" so as to show everything they wanted to without delaying the train. Although apparently the train's departure was delayed by five minutes (reason unknown), forcing TRAINS editor David Morgan to ad-lib for several minutes before the train actually left.Rochester Subway Promotional Filmcbehr912024-06-21 | A too little too late promotional film from 1956 (the same year it shut down) on the Rochester, New York subway system.Erie Lackawanna radio scanner audio near Jamestown, NY 1974cbehr912023-12-31 | Saved from the bowels of the internet.1992 Matrix Essentials Family Video Albumcbehr912023-09-29 | VHS video tape given to the workers at Matrix Essentials, a professional hair products company in Solon, Ohio (who was later bought by L'Oreal and the plant closed). Despite the hoopla there were no confirmed tornadoes *in the station's viewing area*, but there was possible tornado damage in rural Hocking County that might have been tornadic. As of this writing the local NWS chapter hasn't surveyed it yet. (Ed. note: On Friday, June 10th the NWS did confirm an EF-2 tornado from the Hocking/Athens County cell.)
There was a glitch in one of the weather computers where the time was wrong and the banner says visible satellite.
*Yes, I'm aware there were tornadoes further west in the Miami Valley region. That is not in this station's viewing area, thus it wasn't part of this live coverage.CSX defect detector with dragging equipment and car numberscbehr912022-05-06 | Lagrange, OH, CSX Greenwich Sub. Wayne, Indiana then-independent station WFFT channel 55 during a playing of the movie "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" from 1986 (exact date unknown, but since there's no Fox branding it was before the launch of the Fox network, which WFFT was a charter affiliate). Another strong tornado struck Laurelville, which is covered in this clip at about 1:00am. The powerful EF-4 that struck Trotwood and Dayton touched down at approximately the 6:50 mark in the video, and while that storm was not in the viewing area of this station, at times when they pan the radar toward Dayton you can see the tight, well-defined hook echo.KTVH 12 Newscast 1979cbehr912019-05-19 | Mostly complete newscast from Wichita, Kansas CBS affiliate KTVH-TV (now KWCH) from September 1979. Some random observations/criticisms:
For its price it's not a bad camera. I could not find anywhere online specs for the image sensor. Judging by the video quality in 1080p mode (seen here) the sensor is not an HD sensor; thus, the video is interpolated to 1080p. The audio for some odd reason is recorded in 32 khz (audio for video is always 48 khz). For that reason the audio from the camera sounds "muddy". Out of the box the camera is in continuous record mode, which means it will record 3 minute clips that will be overwritten as the 32 GB micro SD card fills up (sold separately). You can turn this off to record one constant clip. If your windshield is cold the suction cup mount will not hold, otherwise, there are no issues with the suction cup mount holding. Finally, after I recorded these clips I turned off the timestamp.
Enjoy some examples of very bad driving. In my area in particular left lane cruising and folks not yielding while merging onto the highway are very common.Timelapse Sunset Danbury Ohiocbehr912018-12-20 | ...WCMH 8-27-2003 Partial 6:00am Aircheck (With Commercials/Today Show JIP)cbehr912018-10-08 | Partial 6:00am aircheck from then NBC owned and operated station WCMH anchored by Anitera Hamper, Mike Hedrick, and meteorologist Marshall McPeek (now across town at WSYX). For more information on the system itself, please watch Ray Glasser's excellent QUBE demo video here on YouTube, or consult other sources here on the internet.
Anyway, this video is a short look inside their headquarters on Olentangy River Rd. in Columbus; showing off the master control area where all the different channels were monitored, the videotape area where programs and commercials were played from, watching an operator typing and inserting text characters on a live exercise show, and finally the camera pointing at a TV flipping through the different channels that were offered by QUBE. In the poster at the end can be seen one of the interactive QUBE remotes, which by the time the poster was made the remotes were wireless (originally they were hardwired to the QUBE box).
Even though the system was introduced in 1977, this video has to be from 1980 at the earliest as MTV, ESPN, and CNN are shown (introduced in 1979 and 1980, respectively).Funnel Facts and Fablescbehr912018-05-28 | A brief public information video from the 1980s about tornadoes; the differences between what a Watch and a Warning are, and what to do in the instance your property is damaged in a tornado.5/14/18 Central Ohio Severe Weather News Coveragecbehr912018-05-18 | Tornado warned storm moves very close to NBC4 studios just north of OSU.Columbus, Ohio April 3, 2018 Severe WX Coveragecbehr912018-04-09 | Approximately 4:58-6:30pm EDT.
