Apparently I must be feeling inspired lately... or bored, one of the two, cause here comes World 5 already! Now it helps that World 5 is one of my favourites of the batch due to just having a bunch of fun levels to mess about in.
With the exception of one section in 5-1, this world ends up being a bit of a breather after the marathon that was World 4. Several of the levels focus more on presenting whole new things to play around with, rather than hitting harder with simpler elements. Thus, stuff like the Master Sword show up to muck about with!
I even decided to go a bit crazy and have not one, but TWO Super Mario Brothers 3 style airship stages in this world... madness! Overall, this world will most likely feel easier than World 4, so take the opportunity to relax a bit while you have the chance.

Well this is what happens when a pretty big tournament I participated (and did very well) in comes up in the middle of a project, yeah? On top of that the inspiration to actually work on some videos was really not there for awhile afterwards, but here we are! The developer commentary returns with Super PKR World!
Also of note, I very recently purchased a new microphone, so there is a bit of the issues with that showing up in this here video. The quality may change a little about halfway through due to getting around to installing a pop filter onto the new one, as I noticed from listening to the commentary that the s sounds were very muddy-sounding. It is nice to have a mic that is not nearly as echoy now, though.
World 4 is quite the mixed bag... but it is at least one that gets progressively better as you go along. There is a bit of a catch, however... on top of the world being about as hard as official Mario levels will ever get, the levels all ended up being LONG. The desert is never-ending, there is no escape! Things start off kinda tedious with 4-1, have severe design flaws in 4-2, before making a fairly triumphant 1-2-3 with the remaining stages (assuming one chooses to do the bonus stage).
This world was kind of the hump to get over when it came to making levels for this project... Once I got this one done, the remainder of the game REALLY started flowing. Honestly, 4-4 may be one of the best levels in the entire Super World, so there is that, too.

Trucking right along through Super PKR World, here comes world 3! This time around we journey through the flooded caverns to experience what the game has for water levels.
I very rarely make water levels in Super Mario Maker 2 as they just always have the issue of being too slow and meandering... generally just not very exciting, but the Worlds update introduced a very important element, the Frog Suit! The sheer difference in control upon having the Frog Suit is intense and as a result like all of my water levels are now in the Super Mario Brothers 3 engine, go figure?
I find World 3 one of the better worlds overall... 3-1 is pretty alright, 3-2 and 3-B are a couple of my favourite levels, and the castle is at least interesting. 3-3 is not super exciting, but it could still be far worse. Months of hindsight are of the opinion of "Not bad!"

Time to delve into the Forest world of Super PKR World, this time with another couple of elements as central gimmicks of sorts! The main one this time around is Claws, and while they do not turn up in every stage, they are used in a multitude of different ways throughout at the very least.
While the levels in World 2 are still pretty simple overall, they can have the occasional bite to them, so just try not to just rush ahead without a care in the world and you should be fine.
Aside from the Bonus level, I like World 2 quite a bit overall. I believe the first and last stages are the strongest ones, but the middle two are not too bad either. It is interesting looking at these creations with months of hindsight...

In order to play Super PKR World you need to have Super Mario Maker 2 up to date as well as have access to Nintendo's online services.
It feels like an eternity since I put the fourty level behemoth that is Super PKR World together, but really, it has only been a few months. With that said, I really want to actually show off all that hard work since well, not very many people are actually going to end up trying the game, let alone finishing it.
Thus, a new journey is embarked upon doing a simple playthrough of the game with me yacking on about design philosophies this and secret that. I may end up repeating myself or rambling on occasion, but hopefully my attempts at communicating the activity of my head space from back in April through May of 2020 proves entertaining.
...For those who do give the Super World a shot uh... patience is key.

With every passing year, plenty of shenanigans occur on the ol' TwitchTV side of things. While I do not take much content from there and put it onto YouTube, I figured the popular clips that viewers make would be a pretty good inclusion at the very least!
This time around due to the decently high number of clips, I decided to take 20 of the most viewed ones... hopefully some laughs are had! The year covered a decent range of games even if most of it was still Randomizer, but many of those little side projects got plenty of laughs regardless.
Also of note... the vTuber avatar that shows up in a few clips is one of the sample ones provided by the Live2D Module of FaceRig... it will be changed to my own, personal avatar once said custom one has been finished!

I really cannot believe a seed like this cropped up immediately after my presentation video about Link to the Past Randomizer's various modes... I had mentioned that Open Mode seeds have potential to be rather samey after playing enough of them, and well... this seed ended up being simple proof of that. How, you may ask? The general progression of this one starting from the Dark World is something I have seen so often, that I just straight up called it out as being the correct thing to do.
Open Mode plays only a little differently than the Standard Mode I posted before. You start with the world in the state is in after rescuing Princess Zelda from Hyrule Castle... but the items themselves are still in the castle. Open adds a bit of a rough patch at the start where you need to scrounge up rupees and bombs, but afterwards, it plays exactly like Standard.
Honestly, I am kinda liking having an excuse to do these simpler modes again. I feel like they work better in a YouTube format than live.

Well now that a little introduction has been given to randomizers, why not post some runs? This time around I wanted to keep things real simple, so I went with the mode of A Link to the Past Randomizer that plays the most like the original game.
Standard starts you off with the usual Princess Zelda rescue, and this take on it even starts you off with a sword as well. Things get a little bit silly once the randomized item placements get discovered bit by bit, however!

A Link to the Past Randomizer requires the Japanese 1.0 rom while Ocarina of Time Randomizer requires the North American 1.0 rom respectively. You will have to track down the roms yourself if you wish to give them a shot.
With the frequency I am asked about what is going on in my various randomizer streams as well as how to go about playing one of these in general, I have seen fit to make a little introduction to the concept that is hopefully clear and concise.

For those who are fond of traditional Mario games, this Super World is for you! While the difficulty will get harder than said games towards the end, the level design philosophy is still there for everything but the bonus levels.
I hope this forty pack of levels is enjoyed... it was quite the experience to make all of these in a relatively brisk amount of time, but it sure was a lot of work.
Special thanks again to my play-testers that really helped iron out some of the levels I was less certain about.
P.S. Do not call this a comeback.

There is some quick context for you... These races happen once a week, so the turn-out tends to be a good size. This particular form of LTTP randomizer is known as "Standard" where you have to start the game going through the Escape like in the original game... The weekly also makes it so you are guaranteed a sword from Link's dead uncle.
This seed allowed me to try some... pretty wild gambles, so I figured, it went quite enjoyably, lets share some of that energy here! This one is not quite as crazy as the cross-world entrance nonsense, but it was still fun!

Some quick context! Unlike the previous A Link to the Past randomizer run I posted before, this one has a few ADDITIONAL quirks!
- All of the game's entrances have been randomized. You could go into some cave and end up in a dungeon, or fall down the Kakriko Well and end up at Ganon!
- All of the dungeon items have been shuffled across the world, too! This means you can find keys for totally different dungeons inside dungeons, or just laying on the ground somewhere.
- This was my first time playing this version of the entrance logic, previous versions were more predictable.
- There were 9 total racers including myself going through the same seed at the same time.
This mode is actually a ton of fun compared to what it would seem like on paper. For those curious about how I remember a bunch of stuff later into the run for this sort of thing, I take notes. One of my monitors was simply a Notepad document keeping track of all the importation locations discovered during the run in case I needed to go back to them, so it becomes less likely for myself to get lost or need to start re-checking things.
Compared to more tame versions of the randomizer, this one is definitely a favourite for me as every run is significantly different from one to the next. More common modes that only shake up items can get a little predictable in comparison.

This particular segment of Earthbound does a good job of emphasizing the parts that... do not really get talked about when people are fondly remembering it. When the bizarre atmosphere and humour take a backseat, you get moments like this where a dungeon simply... happens. It is far from the worst experience out there, but it is noticeably more dull than the rest of the game. That said, they tend to be mercifully short.
The fact this happens right after the whole Peaceful Rest Valley into Blue Blue nonsense only makes it all the more jarring, but well... Paula needs them levels! Getting a second party member does a lot less than one would have expected... but at least Paula is pretty good at what she does... nuking things!

Seriously, though, I did not cover it too fully in the video, but the time grabbing the Space Jump now saves is pretty massive. There is a segment later where you basically just go from one side of the planet, back to Tallon IV to grab this one thing, then walk all the way back to where you came from. There is nothing to really discover on the way, so uhh... not the best of ideas there, huh Retro?
With that said, I am happy to get the early portions of this game done quickly as the game just ramps WAY way up from the first boss forward! The silky visuals emulation is allowing for and the crispy clear audio of the new recording setup also make me quite happy... ALL IN THE NAME OF QUALITY!

Thus begins the adventures of the second Earthbound stream... and so we move into what is one of the game's most infamous stretches... Peaceful Rest Valley. This area of the game definitely does a good job showing its uhh... problems. Said problems are part of why I struggled to keep playing the game until now, as you really need a good idea of how to manipulate the enemies in the overworld to not have an extremely tedious time.
At least it kinda only goes uphill from here... Like with a lot of other RPG games with multiple party members... the worst part of the game is generally when you are alone.

I would say something like "this is one of those strange parts of the game" ...but that is like, MOST parts of the game! I mean after all, the police are unhappy with Ness... err... TOAST... digging around in the cave by Giant Step, so they bring him in to have a word... by trying to beat him up! For some reason I always stopped after beating the police chief, so entering Twoson is where we get into the portions of the game most unknown to me.
Twoson itself is PRETTY BIG, so there is quite a lot of wandering around to do, so well, may as well get it done! The thing that Earthbound does really well when you appreciate this sort of thing, is most NPCs have something to say that, if not informative, is at least amusing, so you feel some level of reward for just... checking out everything. There is certainly a lot of the game's charm I would miss were I not interacting with most of what I come across.

Welcome to the only thing closest resembling a dungeon that I have played from this here video game. In all of my previous attempts to play Earthbound, I never even made it as far as Twoson, so it was definitely a good sign to past me when I had so much more enthusiasm going into the cave leading to Giant Step.
One thing is fairly certain with this game... it will deliver simplicity pretty well no matter where you go. It is not meant to be a looker, and the fairly simple aesthetics have their charm from time to time... but this is seriously just a brown cave of brown with tiny specks of enemies and is otherwise mostly empty so uhh... this is not one of those times!

However, benefits have come with this... to a great enough extent that I decided to reboot the series since we were only two videos in! The visual quality between the original videos and these ones is STAGGERING. Using the almighty powers of emulation, I decided to remove the middle man of finding ways to adapt Gamecube games to HDMI, and just record straight off my PC, since the new one is MUCH stronger and can handle this level of emulation. Look between the thumbnail for this video and the original, the difference is simple to spot. I will be keeping the original videos since they had some humorous moments, but they will be bonus videos at the end of the playlist.
Now, one more thing... In this video I mention aiming to have guests beyond this one once more... this is honestly looking pretty unlikely. The reasons vary from person to person, but the usual crew is really not in a state for joining in at this time, so any guests will be pleasant surprises, otherwise, the delays between videos will simply be too huge, so I am going to put more priority on actual content. I understand everyone's reasons for being unavailable, and would prefer not to repeatedly pester them, so, more solo we will go!

You know, saying that Earthbound is a strange game is kinda redundant. The game lets you know pretty early on that there will be really no way to predict what is going to happen... I mean, after all, now that a bee has told us to go save the world, our very first task is... freeing the people of Onett from the oppression of... a bunch of street punks?
This really marks the first major deviation that showed up between when I played Earthbound in the past, versus this attempt at it... With an audience, I actually took the time to enjoy something I had completely over-looked before... the dialogue! There are a LOT of wacky interactions to experience even just throughout Onett, so the laughs are plentiful, and help you forget a little bit about the less than stellar gameplay.

Well, I still have some final preparations in place before getting something else going I have been working on, but for now, we have a different stream archive I have had set aside to get to posting for awhile now!
Earthbound... this was one of those games that no matter how many times I seemed to pick it up, I could never just... hold onto it. I must have tried to start this game a good four or five times before eventually deciding on streaming it, but each time was the same result... I got about as far as the police station and then just got bored.
Choosing to do a live stream of this particular game was a really good idea, though, as having people to share the experience with really made the bizarre humour and just the... perplexing nature of the whole game really hit home more than it would have. It almost makes me think this game was designed with the era of its creation in mind... where a lot of games were first experienced by being over at a friend's house and them showing off their collection. Just something about it strikes me as a game not meant to be experienced alone...

Whoops, meant to upload this one a couple days ago, but here it is... the finale of Specter of Torment! This campaign ends up with one less stage... a decided lack of a boss gauntlet, which I welcome, as he boss gauntlet stage in Shovel Knight was far from the strongest. Also because Specter Knight's bosses are so much crazier than Shovel Knight's, it would be really hard to justify a room where they can all do their thing.
Much like with the previous two campaigns, however, the Enchantress has a few tricks up her sleeve... in this case, providing us with a whole new individual to fight after her initial attempts to shove Specter Knight aside turn sour.

With all of the other knights recruited, it is time to move onto Shovel Knight's campaign...! At least this is what I WOULD say, but of course there are circumstances for there to be more stages after the knight stages. We must chase after the Enchantress because Specter Knight grew a conscience at some point!
The Tower of Fate stage this time around is... full of a lot of auto-scroll and slow moving parts, so uhh, get ready to stand around a bunch... and likely die a lot, too! Overall, though, it could be a lot worse, and nothing compares to that one auto-scroll section in Tinker Knight's stage...

You know, this is kind of one of the least different stages between the original Shovel Knight and Specter of Torment... I mean, it is still very different with whole new rooms and obstacles, but many of the same ones show up too, as Specter Knight has to traverse them a whole lot differently, such as the angler fish mini-boss.
Specter Knight is also a little too good at fighting bosses sometimes. The poor knights do not even really get a chance to fight back once you have the correct tools! I am sure Treasure Knight had a few more tricks to show but uhh... welp!

OOF Mole Knight... just OOOOF! This stage will force you to THINK. Many rooms let you see what you are dealing with, and you have to be sure not to make a hasty move and put yourself into certain doom. The stage does throw some really interesting new gimmicks at you, too, all involved with the air slash attack... Overall, this stage is awesome, but it can be pretty rough!
The fight with Mole Knight himself uses the stage's main new gimmick against you...!

Did you see that sweet kick-flip?! Welcome to Polar Knight's stage for Specter of Torment! The music has gotten a lot more dire, and the stage itself is... full of grind rails??? This stage changed the most severely of all perhaps, as rather than coupling a new gimmick with the old, we instead have an entirely new gimmick that does not show up all that much beyond this stage without the use of the grinding armour.
The battle with Polar Knight himself though seems to be mos--... oh.

Part of what I am getting at is this final boss... Sure, it is cinematic and all... but I mean, it just does not quite... work. The first form is fine, but it is not entirely obvious what to do at first, and it gets a little TOO easy once you remember the shield exists and learn how to dodge what cannot be blocked.
Then along comes phase two... This one is silly, but it suffers what a lot of final bosses do in video games... beyond the first playthrough, it just becomes tedious. There is no difficulty here at all... it is just meant to be a cinematic finish, but it kinda sours the whole thing. Think to A Link to the Past... You have to finish Ganon off with the silver arrows, but doing so is actually pretty dangerous. The threat of being knocked off is always there, and you need to keep track of when torches will go out, else you go for a swing and get a fire bat in the face... It really feels like you earn the victory, as opposed to just having it handed to you.
I mean, I have seen a lot worse than what this game hands to you, but at the same time... the finale just kinda falls flat. Between that and all the exposition being thrust at you at the very end, it does a good job showing how the popularity of cinematic moments and forcing in story elements can actually hinder a game.
Past me gives a completely different form of summary at the end of this here episode, so I figured I would look at something else here in the description, so for those of you who read, well, just remember these are my thoughts a few months later.

This one takes more of an Ocarina of Time approach to the final dungeon where you have to complete a series of puzzles that take gimmicks from each of the places you have been before in order to open the final door. I mean, it works well enough, but I admit I preferred the less bland layout of Ganon's Tower better from A Link to the Past.
It does throw some decent head-scratchers at you from time to time, though, so you may even need to think about a solution or two!

Fetching the remaining maiamai actually proved a quick task... so there is a little more to this one! This is also a hunt for the remaining heart pieces! With so few left, one would think it would be a quick search, but without any sort of radar like the maiamai... there was a LOT of wandering to edit out.

After the fact, now that I have completed the entire game... going for every last thing is not super worth it. It has the effect of so many other games where you spend the entire game searching for collectibles, only for the reward for getting them all to only be enjoyed for a very small span of time. Could be worse, though, the reward is at least fun!

I really enjoy this dungeon's design, though... so many moving segments that change the way you progress through the same rooms. The dungeon is so mechanical... you get to watch it slowly piece itself back together as you progress, allowing more and more ways to progress. Some of the treasures can be insanely difficult to find, however...

There is less to explore on the Lorule/Dark World version of Death Mountain, but it still has a couple of places of note... such as THE ARENA... or you know, any other of the multitudes of names for "Place where you fight enemy gauntlets for prizes!" You can earn a ton of money out of this place if you are confident in your ability to slice up some enemies without losing too much health, but I mean... by this point, do you even need more rupees...?

This episode also makes the first appearance of the INSANE rooms hidden away within the eastern side of Death Mountain... I never would have expected such rooms in a hundred years to put it lightly! Intimidating is a good word for them... plus there is even some tricky timing related stunts to pull if you want all the goodies. Overall, getting to the last dungeon is almost more dangerous than most of the dungeons themselves!

About the game itself, though... we FINALLY get into the Swamp Palace, and well... it is great! Nice and atmospheric, deceptively simple puzzles, and a nice overall dungeon layout that has you traversing several old rooms in new ways. The boss is fun, if short, too! ...Part of that is my already having the strongest sword I perfectly realize.
Overall, I would say it was worth the wait! This is one of the stronger dungeons for me.

That said, this is the only other moment of the game I would describe as somewhat weak, so the rest is all good! Having the Nice Ice Rod makes a HUGE difference for this dungeon as well, so it is a good thing past me was all "we are about to walk into a lava dungeon, we should upgrade the ice rod" last video!

Going to the lake in Lorule presents us a peculiar situation... Aside from there being lost turtles to find... we just find Turtle Rock in general. What is that doing here? Did it fall down from Death Mountain into the lake?! Either way, that will be the next dungeon!

This dungeon is pretty interesting, really... It has a ton of visual flair associated with its gimmick to help you figure out what to do and where to go... There was obvious effort put into helping the player feel a little less lost within the dark.
Also the boss is actually intimidating and I could see people getting a little spooped. I was fine, though... sorta!

Alright, with that out of the way... lemme tell you a little story about this here Randomizer thing that has been catching on as quite a fad for a number of different games... First off, I really, really enjoy the Link to the Past one, and it being one of my absolute favourite games may have a fair bit to do with that.
What exactly is a randomizer? In this one's case, it involves taking every single item in the game, and distributing mostly randomly across all of the treasure chests in all of A Link to the Past. Now, some of you may be thinking... would that not cause runs that cannot be complete? Thus my saying MOSTLY random... The people making this thing have done their homework, causing the randomizer to know where it can, and cannot place items in order for the run to still beatable. Even more than that, it ensures you can always get everything in the game... so... pretty neat! Ultimately this results in runs that vary a TON right from very early on in the game. For example, the next run after this one, I was required to do almost everything in the entire game in order to complete it!
These randomizers also have a ton of different modes to them... I have been sticking to Normal difficulty, even though I am certain I could handle tougher stuff by now... but I have also been playing the "Open" mode, because I find it more interesting. It makes the intro dungeon optional and you start without a sword, so the start of the run can get a little wacky.

The dungeon also has quite the emphasis on puzzles rather than entirely action, what with it requiring you to do some rather interesting things with our handy friend... Honestly it feels like an entirely different team was responsible for this game's dungeons compared to many of the other Zelda games... I just find them a bit more innovative and interesting, but that is just me.
