I would capture the wonderful scent of the trees on a gentle wind, the smell of the sea air. I would capture the feel of the grass between your fingers as you sit on a river bank, the feel of an ocean breeze as you wander by the waters edge. I would capture the taste of salt on the air as it blows in off the ocean, or the taste of wild flowers that hangs upon a forest breeze. If technology were advanced enough for me to do this I would be sending you scenes from nature that you could experience to their fullest,. Maybe someday technology will be that advanced. As it is, it is very important for me to capture for you as true a sense of each location as is possible. Natures marvel of life, my pond teams with hundreds of tadpoles - Nature in a Permaculture Garden 4 johnnielawson 2023-05-11 | Each day as I work with nature in my permaculture garden, is another day of peace and enlightenment.My pond which is fed from a natural spring well, is now teaming with animated life. Tadpoles hug the bank moving throughout the day to captured the late spring sunshine. It is only a very few of these wonderful creatures which will make it to become frogs and explore the wider garden. When those that do make it out into the garden they will help me in my endless endeavour the bring the slug population to a manageable level. Everyday as I wander about my forest garden I see nature at work, sometimes working against me such as the proliferation of weed growth, particularly at this time of year, but when I see nature working for me as in the number of these potential slug controllers I do whatever I can to assist their development. It is so beautiful to simply sit and watch these wonderful little creatures darting about the pond. As Permaculture is a system for living, the well being of your soul is as important as any other component of a permaculture system. This scene certainly lifts my soul every time I experience this amazing display of nature.Through this series of #shorts I will be capturing scenes throughout the year in my #permaculture garden. As it is, it is very important for me to capture for you as true a sense of each location as is possible. Beautiful orange flowers in a spring garden shine like the sun - Nature in a Permaculture Garden 3 johnnielawson 2023-05-04 | Each day I work with nature in my permaculture garden is another day of peace and enlightenment.While working in the garden the other day the glow coming from this beautiful display of colour drew me closer to this glorious berberis darwinii, in full bloom, festooned in a sea of small bell like orange flowers. I find it interesting that this plant is recommended for bees and yet they can't see orange. I wonder what it is that attracts them to it? If you happen to know the answer please let us know. There were a few bees hovering around it collecting nectar but they just wouldn't stay still long enough to be filmed. As they say, never work with children or animals for filming, I'd add insects to the list. It is a great plant to have in your permaculture system, especially for bringing bees in. An entire ecosystem in miniature living on and from a decaying tree stump. johnnielawson 2023-04-13 | Amongst the plants growing on this old decaying tree stump were various mosses and lichens. An entire ecosystem in miniature was living off the trees decaying matter. There were also tiny heather bushes and wild blueberries. Nature is so wonderful, it is truly amazing.To stay #healthy as part of your #wellness program and for a #healthylifestyle it is so important to get out into the fresh air and be amongst nature. I would capture the taste of salt on the air as it blows in off the ocean, or the taste of wild flowers that hangs upon a forest breeze. If technology were advanced enough for me to do this I would be sending you scenes from nature that you could experience to their fullest,. Maybe someday technology will be that advanced. As it is, it is very important for me to capture for you as true a sense of each location as is possible. Nature in a Permaculture Garden 2 - A Wrens Nest Hidden Behind Ivy Growing on an Old Shed Wall johnnielawson 2023-03-16 | Each day I work with nature in my permaculture garden is another day of peace and enlightenment.Last month I was clearing some ivy which had decided it would grow up an old shed wall I hadn't yet got around to plastering the outside off. As I pulled on the vines of ivy away from their anchorage I noticed a rather well camouflaged beautifully constructed nest hidden behind the ivy. As I looked at it's perfect form I could see it was constructed to perfection, moss was mixed with white hairs from my goats. The hairs weaved in and around the pieces of moss, hold all in place. One small round hole served as the entrance. Being completely out of nesting season I put my fingers inside. Immediately feeling the rise in temperature and the cosiness of the soft wool lined interior. Everyday in the garden I am sounded by natures wonders and miracles. For me following the principles of permaculture is a no brainer. Through this series of #shorts I will be capturing scenes throughout the year in my #permaculture garden. As I slowly turn a couple of acres into a food forest I will film some moments that bring joy to my heart. I hope they serve as a reminder for you also how wonderful a garden is.A garden can be shaped and adorned to suit many tastes, desires and needs. In my own case, I have an interest in growing food. Nowadays almost everything I plant produces food of some kind, secondly I grow plants with a medicinal value, others which add essential value to other plants or creatures, I also enjoy plants which have a positive psychological emphasis, plant which lift my own spirit and the spirit of those you visit my garden, plants which delight the eye but particularly the nose. For me a garden is a place of great beauty and peace. I spend many hours in my garden. Time takes on a different meaning for me when I'm in the garden, it seems to disappear and loose it's relevance. The world outside takes on a different meaning when I am in the garden, it seems further away and yet it all seems right there in this garden. I too, take on a different meaning when I am in the garden, I become one with nature.

Nature in a Permaculture Garden 1 - Spring Daffodils in Decaying Leaf Litter of the Oak Tree Coppice johnnielawson 2023-02-23 | Each day I work with nature in my permaculture garden is another day of peace and enlightenment.The other day I was bringing some some lopped off branches from a tree that required cutting back, down to my decaying wood pile. If you haven't got one yet a decaying wood pile is a great home for so many of natures little creatures, from the over wintering hedgehog down to the microscopic creatures that climb out of the soil to feast on the woody offcuts I continually pile up for them. As time passes the lower layers are continuously turned into rich fertile soil.My wood pile is in an oak coppice I planted twenty or so years ago, I planted it with some tiny bare root trees I found dying in a plastic bag thrown into an illegal dump at the side of a country lane, you just never know what treasures people will throw away. They took some time to recover but have since taken off very well. Beneath the trees along the edge of the coppice I planted up some daffodil bulbs I was given as a birthday present a few years after the trees were settled in.As I wandered my way through the coppice this particular day, lopped branches in hand, I noticed this years daffodils were breaking through the leaf litter which the trees have been dropping year upon year improving the quality of the soil, as they in their turn are broken down into wonderful fertile soil. Each clump of daffodils you see in this short clip started out life as just one single bulb. Every year without fail they divid underground and produce more and more daffodils.Through this series of #shorts I will be capturing scenes throughout the year in my #permaculture garden. As I slowly turn a couple of acres into a food forest I will film some moments that bring joy to my heart. I hope they serve as a reminder for you also how wonderful a garden is.A garden can be shaped and adorned to suit many tastes, desires and needs. In my own case, I have an interest in growing food. Nowadays almost everything I plant produces food of some kind, secondly I grow plants with a medicinal value, others which add essential value to other plants or creatures, I also enjoy plants which have a positive psychological emphasis, plant which lift my own spirit and the spirit of those you visit my garden, plants which delight the eye but particularly the nose. For me a garden is a place of great beauty and peace. I spend many hours in my garden. Time takes on a different meaning for me when I'm in the garden, it seems to disappear and loose it's relevance. The world outside takes on a different meaning when I am in the garden, it seems further away and yet it all seems right there in this garden. I too, take on a different meaning when I am in the garden, I become one with nature.

As I was checking on my goats I saw these wonderful mushrooms growing on a dead trunk of a gorse bush. This was a wonderful moment of mindfulness meditation for me as I focused my attention on this glorious scene in nature. The vivid orange of these beautiful velvet shank mushrooms stood out against the green of the moss and the brown bark of the gorse. Take time when you are out in nature to see within the detail these wonderful creations that are produced by nature, occasions that often last a mere few moments or at most a few hours before they disappear for ever. I know and understand this is not possible for so so many people on this beautiful planet of ours to connect one to one with nature for a myriad of reasons.If I could capture for you nature in all it’s glory and wonder, so you could see, feel, smell, taste and listen to her I would, but the technology just isn’t there yet. I would capture the wonderful scent of the trees on a gentle wind, the smell of the sea air. I would capture the feel of the grass between your fingers as you sit on a river bank, the feel of an ocean breeze as you wander by the waters edge. I would capture the taste of salt on the air as it blows in off the ocean, or the taste of wild flowers that hangs upon a forest breeze. If technology were advanced enough for me to do this I would be sending you scenes from nature that you could experience to their fullest,. Maybe someday technology will be that advanced. As it is, it is very important for me to capture for you as true a sense of each location as is possible. These black screen videos have their place but immersing yourself in an audiovisual experience is a step closer to being in nature rather than just listening to it’s soundscape.All that said, as you listen to these soundscapes, do take the opportunity to imagine yourself in a beautiful place in nature and conjure up in your minds eye the feel of what is a round you, feel the air as it caresses your skin, sense the scene that the sounds evoke, taste and smell the air as it carries the salt from the sea or the aroma of flowers and trees. So what is an Irish Mountain Bog Lake? - Behind the Scenes Johnnie Lawson Nature #Shorts 2 johnnielawson 2023-01-26 | In this behind the scenes #shorts video I bring you into the wild and out onto the top an Irish mountain which is covered in bog. Right into the middle of this bog I show you what a bog lake looks like. Lake is a bit of an exaggeration, it is really just a pond but they are know as bog lakes. Bog is the decaying matter from mostly low lying vegetation, heather, tough grasses but mainly mosses, particularly Sphagnum moss. Because there is so much water caught up in the bog there is a lack of oxygen to help the decaying process the vegetation barely breaks down and so year upon year the layers of matter builds up higher and higher, mean whilst the weight of the upper layers exert more and more pressure on the lower layers as the depth of the bog increases. The lower layers become more and more dense and can after many hundreds of years turn into a material which used to be cut into long brick shape sods and left in the air to dry out. Because the sod is almost entirely made of broken down vegetation it is very high in carbon and so makes an excellent fuel.However in most parts of Ireland the cutting of these bogs has become illegal for a number of reasons. Because bogs are mainly carbon they are an excellent carbon sink for drawing carbon out of the atmosphere and storing it safely underground. Bogs in their own right are a very specific ecosystem and quite unique to Ireland. Many of these ecosystems have been lost through time. There has been recently an active rewetting of a lot of these areas with the hope that they will return to being bogs again in the future. In the hollows water sits and sits because the ground around is so wet the water just can't get away, it stays there and becomes this mini ecosystem in it's own right, supporting a whole host of wildlife.Please drop by my channel where I have unique 8 hour scenes and soundscapes from nature. This series of #shorts videos; 'Moments in #amazingnature' is a perfect example of a 'mindfulness meditation' on the go. Lets take for example, being out on a walk in nature, just as I was the other day with my dogs when I was out on a local beach. To be mindful I focused my senses on the detail that surrounded me, listening to the constant wind in the background punctuated by the occasional sound of a sea bird, a distant dog barking, a cow or sheep in a far off field. I became aware of the sound of my feet as they sunk into the soft wet sand as I walked. I became aware of the smells of the sea hanging in the air, the scent of seaweed washed up on the beach, the scent of the salty air. I looked into the detail of the landscape in the distance but also what was just below my feet, I saw these beautiful tiny channels forming as the receding water made it's way from the beach back to join the ocean. The beach itself is fairly flat and the tide was on it's way out so any remaining water on the beach moved very slowly towards the ocean and created these beautiful channels as it went. They looked just like a miniature version of a river delta as it meets the sea which you would see in a photo taken from space.Nature really is amazing, it is not only the grandiose that makes nature amazing, but also those moments that happen in miniature and last a very short time. It is good to meditate on thee wonderful ephemeral happenings, this can be achieved by being mindful of everything around you. Look and I guarantee you, you will be rewarded. I would capture the feel of the grass between your fingers as you sit on a river bank, the feel of an ocean breeze as you wander by the waters edge. I would capture the taste of salt on the air as it blows in off the ocean, or the taste of wild flowers that hangs upon a forest breeze. If technology were advanced enough for me to do this I would be sending you scenes from nature that you could experience to their fullest,. Maybe someday technology will be that advanced. As it is, it is very important for me to capture for you as true a sense of each location as is possible. These black screen videos have their place but immersing yourself in an audiovisual experience is a step closer to being in nature rather than just listening to it’s soundscape.All that said, as you listen to these soundscapes, do take the opportunity to imagine yourself in a beautiful place in nature and conjure up in your minds eye the feel of what is a round you, feel the air as it caresses your skin, sense the scene that the sounds evoke, taste and smell the air as it carries the salt from the sea or the aroma of flowers and trees. In this behind the scenes #shorts video I bring you to a location not far from where I live. I bring you along the 'The Wild Atlantic Way' to a coastal Townland called Ballyconnell. It is a beautiful rocky coastline location in county Sligo in the northwest of Ireland. On this relatively calm day recently I was scouting a location with my son and his friend. Even though the day was very calm there was a huge swell out in the Atlantic. The ocean waves crashing against the low cliffs were massive, rising 60 or so feet into the air. Their spray covering everything within their extensive reach, including anyone who happened to be sitting within range. I am always on the lookout for new and interesting locations to film my 8 hour nature sound videos. These #Shorts celebrate those moments. #nature herself decided to spruce up this simple garden bench for the #holidayseason with a fine covering of ice crystals. Glistening in the setting sun I felt I had to capture this wonderful scene to share with you. I know quite a number of you will never have seen frost and the beauty it brings to ordinary things. There had been a freezing fog the night before and no wind so when the microscopic droplets of water landed on the freezing surface of the bench the water froze into it's beautiful natural crystal form.Do get out into nature as often as you can and look closely into the detail. Everyday nature will be different, though you must look very closely or you will miss the subtle changes that are occurring all of the time. As the saying goes 'You can't look into the same river twice' as the water you saw has moved on and the pattern of waves and ripples on the surface has changed too. So it is with so much in nature, if you really pay attention you will see it constantly changing. This is so good for your mind to be able to observe these subtle changes. This collection of nature #Shorts depicts those. Moments in nature can be very surprising, unexpected, beautiful and inspiring. While out for a forest walk the other day, I noticed this rhododendron bush had been transformed overnight by freezing fog with the #icecrystals slowly growing and forming on the exposed leaves and the bright red berries. Nature is so amazing, treating us everyday with new and beautiful wonders. Just like here; imagine how a confectioner would make the leaves of this Rhododendron bush look like after they had been dipped in sugar ready to be the centre piece adorning the top of a wonderful festively iced cake. Do try and get out into nature and breath the clear air of winter, for those of us in the northern hemisphere at least. Look closely at what is happening in micro nature, you will be rewarded with a feast for the eyes. We often spend so much of our time either not looking at all what is happening close up or simply focusing on the big picture, whereas so much of natures beauty occurs in it's detail. This is #amazingnature at it's finest.Take your time when out for your walk. If you are on a fitness program, dedicate whatever portion of the walk you need to get your pulse rate and breathing elevated to the appropriate amount for your fitness level and reserve a section of your walk to be one of a slow deliberate pace where you can stop and observe the nature around you. This will help improve the fitness of your mind and hence your overall fitness.
