January 18, 2020 - Of all of his 30+ hat tricks, few were more memorable than the one he scored in the Capitals' final game before the 2019-20 All-Star break. Coming in hot with five goals in the previous two games, including a hat trick just two days earlier (youtu.be/Pu8qHTpjnC4), the Capitals captain got the scoring started early with his 32nd of the season. The Islanders would respond, though, building a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd period. After an early Capitals strike, in classic Ovi fashion, the Great 8 would bank a shot off a defender's skate while falling to cut the deficit to 4-3. Not only was the goal pretty, it marked the first time in his career that Ovechkin had registered multiple goals in three straight games, and more historically, he passed Mario Lemieux to move into the top 10 all-time in goals with his 691st tally. After the Caps took the lead late, Ovechkin sealed the deal with his second hat trick in as many games into the empty net, sending the Caps off to the break with a huge comeback win, and making history once again in the process.
