Drowning puppys amazing rescue from well. Please share!
updated
This little girl’s nose had bled so profusely that clotted blood even splattered her legs. A kind passer-by saw her injury and called us to the rescue. She cried out as we gently lifted her into our carry-basket, but she was too hurt and perhaps confused to struggle.
As we examined her mouth, nose, and badly sprained leg, she kept perfectly still and her eyes were worried with doubt. But what a resilient braveheart she proved to be! After pain medicine, supportive bandages and plenty of kisses, her tail gave a tiny wag, and we knew we had a life-loving spirit on our hands.
Meet Cherub now!
When we responded to a report of an injured dog, we found a badly injured mama dog, who despite a deep wound on her head was continuing to care for her newborn babies. She came out of her den right away and was extremely hungry, devouring the treats we gave which broke our hearts to see. With six little babies to care for, Mama was fighting for more than her own survival. We scooped up the whole family and hurried back to the Animal Aid, and for this beautiful mama, getting rest and good food was as important as her daily wound care. She was utterly exhausted after having fought so hard to stay alive and find food for her babies for so many days. She slept deeply for the first 2 days after rescue and we made sure she got extra food and care while her babies happily nursed away.
She healed beautifully within just a few weeks, and we found a caring neighbor who stepped forward and agreed to take care of the family in their courtyard, keeping the family safe and well fed. Our Street Treatment team regularly checks up on the mama and family who are doing great, and once the babies are old enough, we will bring mama in to be spayed.
A caring neighbor not only called Animal Aid to report this injured dog but he stayed with him until our ambulance came, making sure he wouldn’t run away. While pain would have made any dog snappy, this sweetheart was easy to rescue and went right into the ambulance without a fuss.
His wound was even worse than it first appeared and it was clear that the infection would have spread and he wouldn’t have survived many more days without treatment. He didn’t like his wound-dressing at first, understandably, but within a few days he seemed to know that they were helping him get better.
Meet this handsome boy Smiley today!
This little puppy lay in a pool of blood after having been run over by a vehicle. He screamed for help but couldn't move. On the way to the hospital his condition deteriorated. By the time we brought him to the treatment table, the bleeding had stopped but he was semi-comatose and struggled to breathe. We quickly placed an oxygen mask over his face and began life-saving emergency care.
By the next morning he was active but was completely disoriented. But within a few hours, to our delight, his condition began to stabilize. Soon, with a little help, he could eat by himself and within 9 days, he was alert, had full cognition and could walk amazingly well.
Thank you for supporting Animal Aid and enabling us to save this adorable little guy. Meet Togo now.
So many simultaneous traumas. A deep, terrible wound on his thigh. The bone was broken in his leg. His raw skin was on fire with raging mange. But up the stairs he hobbled to get close to his rescuers. His eyes seemed to plead: "Take me with you!," and we gently said, "Yes."
As his various treatments got underway, we realized that we had a very special boy on our hands. He practically assisted in his own treatments! We had to think of a name that expressed his astounding resilience and a kindness too big for words.
So we named him Superman. Someone steals his cape though! Get ready to fall in love again.
Hit by a vehicle, this girl painfully dragged her back legs in circles.
Her spine was damaged and her hind legs hung lifelessly behind her. The pain must have been horrible. When her rescuers approached, she looked terrified, but had no means of escaping them. She submitted, and only when on the treatment table in the hospital, as we began our initial assessment, did she relax a little. Our treatment protocol for spine injury is six weeks of bedrest. We always feel sorry that dogs don't understand why confinement is necessary, but for the swollen tissue or fracture to have any chance to heal movement must be kept to a minimum.
We hoped that by being in a portable kennel, she would have plenty of stimulation with the sights and sounds all around her. After two weeks, daily physiotherapy sessions meant more than the slow introduction of movement. It meant touching, caressing and love. We named her Silky, and after her six weeks of rest, little changes led to big changes. Meet Silky now!...

He was still breathing. But only just. Many passers-by would have thought this puppy had already died. But a caring person came closer and called us for help. He was unconscious. We knew we had to act fast to save him. We saw multiple puncture wounds on his neck and carried him extra carefully in case of spine damage or internal bleeding.
But as soon as we reached the treatment table, his eyes opened! Perhaps being handled was giving him the trust or confidence not to give up. After cleaning, bandaging, and stabilizing him with a drip, we placed him in a quiet kennel where he could rest until he was strong enough for a roommate. He ate like a trooper, slept quietly, and by the time we introduced him to his new friend, we knew he was feeling better because he made it crystal clear that the toy we'd given him was too fun to share.
This little guy had been on death's door, but nothing can stop the sun from rising. Meet Sunshine now!

This sweetheart seemed stuck in a hole, but he wasn't stuck. He had half-buried himself and seemed to be ready to die there. A deep wound spread across the back of his neck. He was emaciated and almost too weak even to stand. He cried when we gently lifted him from his hiding place, but his soft nature was obvious right away. He only wanted to be a good boy.
The wound healed remarkably fast, and how glorious it was to see him eat and watch his body condition transform. Healthy, glistening, and extraordinarily dear, this is Dovey now--an angel on earth who still seems to have work to do, brightening the lives of all who meet him.
We're so relieved that the owner of this cow didn't sell her baby boy and allowed him to wander with her. But a passing car must have swept too close to him and tore off a large patch of his flesh.
The wound was serious and without treatment, infection and maggots could have ended his life. We brought them both to our hospital, knowing that the stress of separation from his mother would have been traumatic, and in stress, animals can become very weak.
But with his mom close by, daily wound dressings, and delicious green grass, Little Beta healed in a jiffy.

One of the strangest life-threatening wounds we've seen--this boy's mouth was wounded on both sides, and maggots had entered the awful wounds. We truly have no idea how this happened. It would have been impossibly painful for him to eat, but neighbors noticed his suffering early enough that we rescued him before starvation added to his horrible problems.
His gentle nature made treating him easy for us, though the pain of his first treatments was really difficult for this brave, beautiful boy. Removing the maggots gave him the comfort and courage to eat, and he loved his food. We knew then that he would flower. But at first, his shyness kept him a bit withdrawn. We had no idea that when he felt better physically a comet of loving energy was just waiting to shine. Meet Comet now!
This bear-like boy was quiet, humble, and shy. He had been attacked by maggots in what probably started as a small wound on his forehead. This variety of maggots rage and race through healthy tissue, and can destroy a life within hours.
As bad as this wound was, it may have been only a few days before someone noticed the terrible teeming hole and called us to the rescue. As we came to know this sweetheart better, his shyness and distrust of people never completely melted, but he grew, from unbelieving, untrusting, to an angel who seemed to completely recognize that we had given him back his life. Meet Bhaloo now!
The first thing you notice is her gentle glow. Wounded perhaps several days earlier, this street dog's eye and leg injuries caused her great pain. But what saw even from a distance was her incredible sweetness.
Even when her tail didn't wag. Even with just one eye and a soft mouth held still to bear her pain, she radiated an incandescent kindness. We cleaned and treated her wounds, and boosted her with an IV hydration drip and watched with joy as her daily medical treatment, rest and love brought her back to shining good health. And Maria's glow is ever brighter.
This suffering street dog had hidden himself away with an excruciating, swollen broken femur and a damaged spine. We whisked him to our hospital but after medical treatment, including 6 weeks of bedrest, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, oodles of love and comfort, he still couldn't stand.
We sadly assumed that Champ would live the rest of his life with permanently damaged hind legs in our area for paralysed dogs, friends with many other dogs who also suffered spinal cord damage. But time passed and a change took place which many of us would have said just wasn't possible. A year after his rescue, meet Champ now!

When we arrived at the rescue site, an angel was lying on a grate covering a sewer. His one remaining eye wide in terror. The other eye was ruptured beyond recognition, causing him unimaginable pain.
We think a vehicle had hit him with force so blunt it pushed the eye right out of the socket. He ran the moment our rescue team approached him, and in hindsight, we realize how traumatized he must have been because this boy, once he recovered from eye removal surgery, was such an all-day cuddler we called him Koala-bear!
His smile never stops saying: "thank you for saving me." Meet Koala Bear now!

When our rescuers approached this little angel, her tail wagged briskly, but we could see that she was frightened and confused, and her wagging came from intense shyness. When we began to lift her, her pain spiked; her cries were heartbreaking. In our hospital, we treated her for pain right away, and her eyes softened as the medicine did its work.
When spinal damage is acute, patients often have no feeling in their toes. A damaged spinal cord means broken communication between the brain and the limbs. We were immensely relieved to find that she did have sensation in her toes, and now we hoped that the damage to her spine might heal with bed rest. Her shyness lingered, and even eating in front of our caregivers was difficult that first day.
But watch what happens as this incredibly modest young lady heals! You're about to see the astounding beauty of growing trust. Meet Lola today!
Babies are so fragile, and this little sweetheart's trauma wound was deep, at the throat, and extremely dangerous. For several days he couldn't stand, needed help even to eat, and swallowing was probably painful when, the day after his rescue, his face started to swell.
But gradually, we saw something brightening in his little button eyes. He still couldn't walk without wobbles; he was sleeping most of the time, and the wound itself was still very painful. But yes, there was life and joy awakening inside him.
He showed us a ray of hope, and that's what we called him as he got stronger and stronger. Meet Ray now!
This desperate boy was covered in mange scabs, and pain enveloped every inch of his body. Kind passers-by recognized mange and were able to catch and hold him in their car while waiting for our rescue team to arrive.
We were so happy with this profoundly important help because mange dogs are often difficult to catch. He was incredibly gentle and hardly moved a muscle while we administered pain medicine and began his life-saving treatment. Although he didn't love his first medicated bath, he must have felt so much relief to rest with a full stomach after eating a big meal.
Day by day, his scabs were washed away, and a beautiful powdery angel began to emerge from what had been pure wreckage. Meet sweet Powder now!
The sheer area of her burn was huge. Where the skin had not melted, it had detached from the tissue and, without blood flow, would turn necrotic. With so much tissue destroyed, we were not sure we could save her, as her black, sparkling eyes looked at her caregivers with both alarm and trust.
Her pain was monstrous, yet the quiet love her heart radiated was something everyone could feel. Each day, we cleaned and covered the wounds with medicated cream and then covered them with a sheet of plastic before applying bandages. The plastic holds in moisture and promotes healing. We saw results within days, but the final closure of this terrible wound would take months. But it only takes minutes to fall in love with Holly
We treated her for pain, we cleaned and flushed her wounds, and we removed maggots from another painful wound on her paw. On day 1, she wouldn't eat. By Day 2, we were growing anxious, but still, no food tempted her. By Day 3, she continued to refuse food, and we were beginning to despair. But she was still too active to be able to feed her through an IV line (cats are difficult to feed intravenously unless they're practically unconscious). But on Day 4, something changed! And the rest of her sweet story is--ahead of her! Meet Lovebug now!

Children gathered around the struggling puppy, whose little hind legs flopped behind him after he was hit by a car. It was heartbreaking to see. Our rescue team scooped him up and found, to our relief, that he seemed to have no spinal injury, no open wounds, and no fractures.
But still, he couldn't bear weight on his hind legs. We followed our bed-rest protocol, though he was completely unwilling to obey the "rules," and kept on playing.
It has been wonderful to see him gaining strength day by day, and because he is young, even though his legs are not as strong as they were before the accident, he's sure to keep improving.

This beautiful boy had a massive wound on his chest. He had a family who stroked and loved him and seemed to somehow let him know he needed to go with our rescue team without any resistance. But he was terrified of the wound cleaning process, and it broke our hearts to see the fear leaping from his eyes.
Suturing the wound closed was not an option because the distance was too broad, and the skin flap was completely gone. When the first treatment was finished his entire face changed to reveal trust and comfort as he began the beautiful process of bonding with his new hospital caregivers.
How wonderful it was to be able to return Kalu to his neighborhood and smells he knows and the people he simply loves!
Whatever size the package is, love is huge, isn't it? This gorgeous puppy was almost buried under an enormous cyst.
We treated him with antibiotics and drained the fluid to make sure it didn't rupture inside. If it had leaked internally, it could have caused an infection to spread throughout the body and could have meant death for this little ray of sunshine.
But we rescued him in time, and he's shining. Meet Georgie now!
Neighbors were shocked to find their local street dog hiding in pain. When our rescue team arrived he growled and threatened to bite. Looking back, we now know the reason was only his tremendous pain and fear. Those growls were soon replaced by the most patient, trusting smiles.
Joey had no fractures or wounds, but to walk again, he would need 4 weeks of bedrest. For a young dog especially, this confinement is really tough. But loving visits and plenty going on around him helped, and now? Meet Joey today--better than ever.

People witnessed a dog's collapse after being hit by a car and immediately sent us a video clip of the motionless dog in a pool of blood. We advised the people not to move him, and we're so glad that they didn't because with the first touch, this completely disoriented dog exploded with random motion, not trying to flee so much as experiencing an adrenaline rush and a completely dazed brain.
We worried that his brain injury would bleed, causing permanent damage, but within hours he began to show signs of slight improvement, able to focus his gaze and permit himself to be gently touched. But the biggest surge of hope we experienced in those first frightening hours was his interest in food, and ability to coordinate his head movement enough to eat by himself.
For several days we needed to watch him around the clock to make sure he didn't lose consciousness due to brain bleeding, which is one of the dangers of concussion. We named him Mitchell--it felt like a strong, stable, serious name for a boy who had the very serious work of healing from a head injury for many days ahead. But within a few days of light physiotherapy, Mitchell managed to stand on his own.
There's an old saying: "the rest is history." For Mitchell, "the rest is a future."
The wound wrapped around her entire body. Hit by a car, this sweetheart had only a few hours to live without rescue. And with so much tissue exposed, we knew a conventional bandage might not be enough to save her.
Once she was on our treatment table and we could examine both her enormous wound and the excruciatingly painful leg fracture, we were relieved that she had enough skin remaining to close the wound with sutures.
We prepped her for surgery and our surgeon carefully closed the entire wound on her torso. He was also able to close the open fracture wound before plastering her leg. This ordeal was enough to break anyone's spirit, but not Molly's. She was gentle, kind and loving. Every moment.
From the first seconds of her rescue, to the kisses she gave once she was healed. How much lovelier the world is with Molly in it.
Not just your average sweetheart with mange. We've shared many mange cases with you, but this little love has something so special, we have to invite you into a more cheerful world thanks to little Oaty.
He was frightened when we arrived to rescue him, and he ran so fast we had to catch him using a humane net, but the second he was in our arms on that treatment table, Oaty's tail started to wag and, seriously, it did not stop for the entire month he was healing with us. Every little flicker of attention he received, he rewarded with the most endearing swipes of his long wand-like tail as if he were the conductor of a symphony of pure sweetness.
Oaty's eyes are so loving we predict you're going to adore ALL dogs EVEN MORE after you get to know him.
Putting all his strength into dragging himself forward, his hind legs collapsed beneath him, this poor beauty had been hit by a vehicle and suffered spine damage.
We hurried him to the hospital and were relieved to find that he still had good sensation in his hind toes, which meant that his brain could still communicate with his feet through his spinal column. We comforted him, and his relaxed, beautiful smile gleamed back at us. He remembered! He'd been here before for an injury to his ear, and at that time we had also neutered him.
So for Herman, this might have seemed like just another rest-and-relaxation holiday. It took all 4 weeks of his enforced bed rest to regain his mobility, but when he finally stood, he acted like he wondered what all the fuss had been about! Meet this elegant angel now...
Our rescue team must have gasped when they saw the sheer size of this street dog's gaping neck wound. He couldn't lift his head and he was nearly unconscious.
We rushed him to our hospital and began work to heal this complicated and horrible wound. At first, we weren't sure he would have the stamina to survive. But he wouldn't give up hope, and neither would we.
Meet Hopeful now!

Little Suri was almost lost in hardened tar covering literally every inch of her body. Saving her precious life took 10 loving hands working for hours. She was abandoned by her owner and left to die. We don’t know how long she’d been stuck in the tar, but she was almost unconscious from exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke. Her tail was stuck to her thighs and her legs were stuck together. All she could move were her eyes. She couldn’t even cry for her mother anymore.
Our team went to work with vegetable oil and soap to melt the tar. We’ve learned from past experiences with puppies stuck in tar that it takes hours to soften the toxic tar. When Suri was finally freed from the grip of the tar, she nearly jumped for joy. And so did we.
Watch this harrowing but wonderful story about turning a potentially terrible death into a beautiful new life.

Sukie is blind and had been abandoned after a road accident. Rescued, she was living "alone" among a hundred cows in the Animal Aid shelter. She was surrounded by animals and humans, but she was lonely. Sukie desperately needed another horse, because horses need horses to talk to, to groom, to play with, to take comfort from in their shared language.
Across the city, a horse lay dying from a suspected twisted intestine. But she wasn't alone. Her dearest companion was a little red mare, who appeared out of the blue following the ambulance at full gallop, as we transported her critically ill friend to our hospital.
Back in the hospital, we did everything we could to help the suffering horse, but sadly she didn't have the strength to make it. She gently slipped away quietly within a few hours, with her friend by her side.
Her friend circled and seemed to grieve. But then, she saw Sukie.
This video is a tribute to all friends. Belle was the answer to Sukie's prayers. And Sukie must be the answer to Belle's in turn.
This gracious girl's life was about to be consumed by a large tumor on her shoulder. We rescued her and determined that the tumor was operable and could be safely removed without jeopardizing her life.
What a perfect patient she was, quietly allowing all of her surgery prep to be conducted with patience and--it almost seemed--understanding. Thank goodness someone called us to rescue her. Without surgery the tumor would have continued to grow and eventually may have impaired her ability to walk.
For a street dog who has no specific guardian, that disability would be fatal. After the tumor was removed this naturally elegant sweetheart radiated good health. Meet beautiful Guli now!
For elderly dogs, the aches and pains of old age make it hard to live on the street, competing with youngsters for food, needing extra naps, often feeling quite inward.
When they become injured or ill, they don't have the strength to take care of themselves. That's why it is such a privilege for us to get rescue requests for the very old angels out there. We've given permanent sanctuary--forever homes--to many old and disabled dogs.
Meet 4 of these very special forever friends--Prince, Ziggy, Cooper and Masala. And get ready to fall in love again! Fairy tales, can come true, it can happen to you, if you're young at heart...

His wrenched and extended neck, his desperately pleading eyes, his stiff legs. After being hit by a car, we worried that internal injuries might lay hidden, and that he could die on route to the hospital.
But he held steady, and as soon as he arrived we began the emergency care for pain and shock, realizing that although he appeared to have no broken bones, his spine was damaged.
Feeding this sweetheart by hand would be necessary until he had the courage to overcome the pain enough to lift his head. And thus began the weeks-long bed rest and physiotherapy sessions which, together with his sheer will of steel and absolute love of life, would give him back his legs.
He was so eager to try, because he had so much playing to do! Meet Batani now!
This video might change your idea of The Possible. When we rescued this little love, we found the biggest wound on a small cat we've ever had the challenge to treat. Magic's mind-blowing recovery gives new meaning to the phrase "I can't believe my eyes." Meet Magic now.

When the government hospital vet called us to rescue a dog someone had dropped there after finding him unconscious on the road, we hurried to help.
And so lucky that we did, because this sweetheart didn't have much longer to live. We rushed back to the Animal Aid hospital where we gave him emergency IV fluids to treat shock and dehydration, and oxygen to help his labored breathing.
He seemed to have a broken jaw but otherwise no broken bones. With so much blood loss, we weren't sure he would ever wake up. But within a few hours, his eyes brightened, and he seemed to partially absorb the idea that he was in a new place. He was returning to consciousness and beginning a second chance at life. This boy's road to recovery included 2 months of daily therapy to regain his ability to walk, to eat, and to think. It was long but beautiful.
Meet this awe-inspiring little hero, Kenny, today!

To see the gaping neck wound was heartbreaking as we lifted this dog out of his hiding hole. Maggots had consumed an enormous amount of tissue. His pain must have been so gripping that he couldn't eat, and malnourishment had weakened him. His blue eyes were bright with pain and intelligence.
We hurried him to the hospital and started his treatment immediately--applying the powder that enables us to remove maggots after a few hours. We boosted him with a hydration drip and started a vigorous feeding schedule, delighted that he loved his food and gained strength rapidly.
With such a large wound, it took two months for him to heal, but long before his healing was complete this loving angel had made friends with every staff member in his area, and most of the dogs too!
What a precious life to save. As he recovered, his amazing eyes revealed intelligence deep as the ocean. And that's what we've called him. Meet Ocean now!

This astounding Mother-Dog-On-A-Mission led our rescue team to her badly wounded baby. Her sweetheart could not appear more forlorn, blood filling his mouth, chest, and covering even his paws. He kept as still as a statue, seemingly in shock after the traumatic blow of a vehicle. His mother wagged her tail pleadingly as we gathered up her baby, almost as if she knew we would try to help.
If you can get through the heartbreak of the opening scenes, we promise you this little joy boy, after healing from a fractured jaw, will definitely bring you a smile today as big as his own. Meet Trinket now!

She wriggled and snarled when our rescuers attempted to lift this desperately wounded dog in order to rush her to the hospital.
She wouldn't allow it. But wait! She had a bright twinkle in her eye and an eagerly wagging little stub of a tail. She leaped away from them and headed straight for...not the bushes! Straight for the ambulance itself! She wasted no time to quite clearly say: "Open the door so I can jump in!"
Once back in the hospital we thoroughly cleaned her very serious neck wound and her healing began. But during the 4th week of her healing process, we were alarmed that within just a couple of days she fell ill. She had nasal discharge, her weight dropped off within just a couple of days, and after all her healing, we feared we might lose her.
But oh wow! She rallied! Meet the simply astounding Aatifa now!

His little shoulders trembled and his young eyes were filled with anguish. He had suffered a puncture wound on his backside, and now, he could no longer walk. Somehow he had dragged himself to safety and out of the road and waited in utter confusion and helplessness.
This is probably right where he would have died if the rescue team had not arrived to save him. We gently lifted him to the ambulance and thus began his healing journey. With spine damage like his, bedrest and good food are the most important treatment. Oh, and lots of love and snuggles from friends human and puppy. Meet Twinkle now!

This lady dog's neck was ripped apart in a road accident. Maybe the vehicle's tire caught her skin. She was likely only a few hours from death when her neighbors found her and called us to rescue her. Her bright eyes were filled with alarm, but she hardly moved when our rescue team carried her with the help of the kind neighbor who kept her safe as our ambulance hurried to arrive. We had no time to lose. We rushed her back to the hospital and our surgeon found that there was enough skin left to close the wound with sutures, and began the procedure immediately. In the coming days, we would have to wait to ensure that infection didn't develop.
As the days passed we breathed sighs of relief that the healing was going so well. This wound was such a close call--she never would have survived without immediate surgery and thanks to the help of our supporters we had what it took to save her life. When her healing had progressed, we spayed her, and during her weeks in the hospital, her incredibly gentle nature has filled us with love. Meet Molly now!

A mother's growing calf was terribly injured on the back of his neck with a deep wound filled with maggots. We knew they needed to be together, but the day we rescued him we didn't have room in our ambulance to bring them both. We hurried him for emergency treatment, but he was alone.
The next day after removing the maggots and thoroughly cleaning the wound, our ambulance pulled up with a big beautiful surprise for this little angel: his mommy! In a jiffy, they found each other, and then this calf's healing process could gallop along! Daily wound cleaning and fresh dressings enabled that awful wound to close within a couple of weeks.
Meet Petal and Rose now!
We saved this happy boy's life so soon after his accident that he suffered only for a day or two. His tail wags in every single frame of this video. We simply shudder to think of the tragedy we averted by rescuing him. It's awful to imagine such a joyful puppy suffering in pain, whose tail would soon have stopped wagging forever. This little sweetheart is simply Love Itself in a puppy package.
Thank you, supporters, for giving us the means to save Sunny. Meet him now!

This boy had a deep and huge wound filled with maggots. He had hidden himself away, giving up, waiting to die in a little alcove he'd found in a construction site. Yet when our rescue team came near, his tail, ever so gently, wagged. And wagged again: a light thump. Then, another light thump.
His eyes radiated a kindness that would never dim throughout 6 weeks of wound cleanings and fresh bandaging. He brought sunshine to every person he met, every moment, at death's door when we admitted him, but never too ill to give love. We had to name him what he so thoroughly is: Angel. In its purest form.
This video contains graphic footage that is intended for educational purposes.
At first you might think this dog is an elderly frail old lady, but she is a puppy who was suffering from advanced mange and starvation. To our amazement she greeted her rescuers with the trust and affection of someone not defeated, but vital with a will to live.
We hurried her into treatment, knowing that in this desperate condition, her immune system was very low and at any moment she could take a turn for the worse. Her innocent eyes peered up at her caregivers with so much hope even from the first moments on our treatment table in the hospital. And thankfully, her appetite was beautiful and she dove right in.
We named her Tulip and watched with joy as day by day her health improved and a puppy emerged where an old lady had hobbled.

If we couldn't warm up little Adoo quickly he was going to die of the cold. Somehow he had gotten wet, and his body went into hypothermia--a life-threatening condition that affects the heart and other organs.
We rushed him to our hospital and gave him heated water in a saline IV drip, and placed him in a nest of hot water bottles and blankets and human arms. But all we could do was wait to see if his little body would respond to the external warmth. Mere blankets couldn't have done the job.
By the next morning, we met a new little guy--his eyes were sparkling and he even ate on his own! We kept him with us for a couple of days as a precaution and returned him to his mother.

One of the strangest cases we've treated, this quiet dog had a wound filled not only with maggots, but a persistent bacteria continued damaging the tissue. His wounds were huge and deep, but we knew our maggot removal protocol was very effective.
We were alarmed that even once the maggots were removed the wound rapidly grew. Even before the wound responded to the antibiotics, this boy had unusually gentle perseverance. He kept very still throughout his weeks of daily wound dressings. His eyes held steady but revealed little. Yet something profound was stirring inside him. He was always sweet. But it was an extraordinary surprise to find that as his wound shrank, his happiness rose to the surface.

As we approached this dog from behind, she looked perfectly fine. But as we neared her face we understood why she was keeping completely still.
Her eye had ruptured from the blow of a passing vehicle. Her pain must have been devastating. She was shocked and seemed afraid of moving a muscle. Rescuing her was easy: she was as still as a statue.
Once in the hospital our medical team realized her eye was hopelessly damaged and would need to be surgically removed. When she recovered from surgery and her pain was hugely reduced, the blazing light of her love shimmered from her entire face.
Meet Penny, a magnificent and oh so sweet survivor

This little angel was curled up and trembling when her neighbors called to report the accident. She'd been hit in the face by a passing vehicle and her mouth was bleeding.
We feared the worst--a complicated jaw fracture or a head injury--but our fears were calmed when we examined her and we found no signs of fracture (though she may have had a hairline fracture) and her bright button eyes and perky ears assured us that she had not suffered an injury to her brain. She needed rest and food, but rest? She wasn't much interested in it--she was too busy playing.
She bounced back within days, and inspired us to call her Bouncy! What a pleasure to see her thriving.

He's not soooo old but we didn't realize it at first, because this wounded boy was so completely hurt by a bad wound and damage to his spinal nerves. He couldn't stand. He couldn't even lift his head. In fact, his pain was so intense he could barely move his eyes. But he could cry, and his sobs alerted neighbors that he was laying there in the rubbish urgently needing rescue. We immediately began wound treatment in the hospital, but he remained unable to stand although he didn't appear to have a fracture. We put him into a protocol of 6-weeks of bed rest to allow nerves to heal and swelling between vertebrae to subside. He couldn't eat without help, and depression, we feared, was setting in. But at about 3 weeks, he managed to sit up. Only now did we grow confident that he had a fighting chance. Join Glimmer's journey from dying to dancing.
Joy greeted her rescuers with all her hope springing from her adorable wagging tail. But Joy's deep, blistered fungal patch was one of the worst we've seen.
Scratching had opened the skin and infection set in so in addition to the advancing fungus, this poor sweetheart's overall health would soon degenerate if we hadn't rescued her.
Joy's treatment included spaying her, and every day she showered us with love. Thank you for the help that makes saving pure, innocent lives possible.
